This movie had Dan Abnett on the point of its writing team. The Ultramarines aren't a problem. I just wish that scenes like this had replaced Black Legion Astartes with human/mutant cultists. It would've been more trouble to animate, I fully respect that, but it would've been vastly more impressive for a small squad of Ultramarines to be holding their ground against thousands of slavering hordes of the Ruinous Powers. I love 40k and spehss mehreens but this movie was crap, the low production value just didn't hold up, the thing about 40k is that its grand and epic, you can't pull that off with high production value.
on the contrary, it costs a lot of money to animate something like a warhammer series and have it look halfway decent. that said,I'd love to have a tv show about the horus heresy.
Saw this when I first got into 40k and will always enjoy hearing John hurt screaming 'burn heretics' but as a shameless advertising of a youtube creator for those who may or may not know, a content creator Richard Boylan, has been making an animation of one of my favorite stories Helsreach, with some beautiful animation and voice acting, I highly recommend giving his work some views.
For epic awesomeness: Step 1: Mute this video Step 2: Open up a new TH-cam tab Step 3: Find LORDE - Everybody Wants To Rule The World Step 4: Play both videos at the same time and watch this video. Step 5: En-fucking-joy

I actually paid alot more for it, and enjoyed it. Got the steelcase and the comic book. The only thing that saddened me was that the blu-ray version became available after I had gotten the dvd version.
oOMasterDjoOo 19. Nearing 20. Why do you ask? This movie is an abomination even for direct to DVD movies are concerned, and a shame that the W40K license is even associated with it.
oOMasterDjoOo Why would I ever enjoy a movie of this quality? It wouldn't matter if it was star trek or star wars, it'd still be a miserable movie. I'd at least expect it to be on par with the Clone Wars 3D show, which swung between good and decent, but was of far greater quality. But still, that's a guilty indulgent of mine. If I wish to watch cinema and completely enjoy it, I bust out by Godfather collection or Looper. It is a shame though we're unlikely to get a W40K movie on par with say, Star Wars, even Attack of the Clones would be better than this. Hell the DOW movie intros had more detail than this, same with Space Marine. (Although that's if there is even actors alive who could play W40K characters, it might have to be CGI simply because Ron Perlman is the only actor I can think of who looks like one.)

My biggest problem is... Ultrasmurfs... FUCKING ULTRASMURFS... Like people say they are the most successful chapter ever?.. I BEg TO DIFFER, Those guys lost an Emperor class-battleship, got practically consumed by the tyranids during the first Tyranid War and a bunch of other shit they've done AT HUGE COST TO THE EMPIRE. Should've just fucking sent the Space-Wolves... Or ANY chapter that didn't resemble the "Throw everything at it untill it dies" policy that Guardsmen use.
GSXRMarshall Oh yeah, the best chapter to get sucked off by Ward. Seriously, they're the most vanilla chapter ever. What's their specialty, huh? Being there, that's about it. Seriously, the Dark Angels have so much of a better story.
Sam Mullen I agree with you, mostly Legions/chapters have better story than the Ultramarines and the "dark" story behind the Dark Angels is by far too diferent than the other Legions/chapters.
Like fluff wise, they are the coolest, game wise, that's all a matter of how you play. But here's the crappy part, if you were to make a movie, like released in theaters and stuff, who else would the main character(s) be. The Ultramarines are sorta the embodiment of a space marine without the extra need for fluff, which is why they were the chapter in the Space Marine shooter. Enough people could watch this movie without raging about the fluff needed to get it going. However, it could work if an obligatory back-story scene was made. I have often thought about which chapter would be best suited for wold-wide film distribution and unfortunately the list is quite limited, because most people will not be die-hard 40k fans, so it would have to go with the Ultramarines or some successor chapter with no fluff attached to them.
***** I understand that. But if I can listen to Justin Bieber music for a whole two hours, watch My Little Pony for another three hours and play Ride to Hell Retribution, then surely I can watch this.

Hello guys, i'm a fan of Warhammer 40k but I just want to ask a question, for clarification. Is that an Angry Marine I see in that bunch?
ah ultramarines the film what a shit! give us the horus heresy! the fight between ferrus and fulgrim! the atack of the imperial palace and the charge of the imperial fist! The last fight of Russ with the 13th and of course the fight between sanguinus and Horus! Give us the true Alpha legion who fight for the chaos eradication (read the book "legion" for more precision)
4 years later and I still don’t understand what you wrote...
"having a loaded bolter, would hurt either." best phrase ever.
@The Jester - Fool Of Hearts Damn straight.
Nearly every sci-fi franchises has influences from Starship troopers
from the power armor to the hive-mind like aliens.
I prefer the more robotic voices
where it's very deep sounding and badass
IM BATMAN exactly
2:03 Dual wielding bolters
TRUE CHAOS
Saw this when I first got into 40k and will always enjoy hearing John hurt screaming 'burn heretics' but as a shameless advertising of a youtube creator for those who may or may not know, a content creator Richard Boylan, has been making an animation of one of my favorite stories Helsreach, with some beautiful animation and voice acting, I highly recommend giving his work some views.
Most badass Chaplain ever. Awesome skull helm too.
I doubt what's beneath it looks much different.
For epic awesomeness:
Step 1: Mute this video
Step 2: Open up a new TH-cam tab
Step 3: Find LORDE - Everybody Wants To Rule The World
Step 4: Play both videos at the same time and watch this video.
Step 5: En-fucking-joy
Dear Expax,
Please find attached one (1) internet that you have won today. Congratulations and enjoy your victory.
Do I get to put a tiny piece of paper held by some red thingy on my battlesuit armor? C:
Expax It shall be presented to you after we have confirmed that your victory was not achieved by heretical means. -:-)
thats creepy how well it syncs....
“Have you not a weapon”
“Saving my ult, bro”
I just watched the whole movie and it was fking amazing! Most people that hate probably only watched the trailer or went with the prevailing public opinion, because this movie is well worth the 4 $.... Long live the Emperor
I actually paid alot more for it, and enjoyed it.
Got the steelcase and the comic book.
The only thing that saddened me was that the blu-ray
version became available after I had gotten the dvd version.
0:29 and it was at this moment they knew they would win
Ah. The movie so bad that it's not even worth pirating.
Wyatt how old are you ? Simple question.
oOMasterDjoOo
19. Nearing 20. Why do you ask? This movie is an abomination even for direct to DVD movies are concerned, and a shame that the W40K license is even associated with it.
Wyatt Wilmot
Lol You guys are never happy. I could kill for that kind of movie when i was your age.
oOMasterDjoOo
Why would I ever enjoy a movie of this quality? It wouldn't matter if it was star trek or star wars, it'd still be a miserable movie. I'd at least expect it to be on par with the Clone Wars 3D show, which swung between good and decent, but was of far greater quality. But still, that's a guilty indulgent of mine. If I wish to watch cinema and completely enjoy it, I bust out by Godfather collection or Looper.
It is a shame though we're unlikely to get a W40K movie on par with say, Star Wars, even Attack of the Clones would be better than this. Hell the DOW movie intros had more detail than this, same with Space Marine.
(Although that's if there is even actors alive who could play W40K characters, it might have to be CGI simply because Ron Perlman is the only actor I can think of who looks like one.)
oOMasterDjoOo Im 26 now and I can happily confirm, this movie was shite. It could of been so much better, yet it wasn't.
this was like an endless video game transitional sequence on a Sega Saturn...
Chaos lost lot of armour saves. Blame the dice gods.
Ive actually watched a battle report where either a space marine or chaos kept rolling 1's as his saves...
I was wondering who rigged the dice... -_-
The Smurfs had the heart of the cards.......
Spehss Mahrens, todeh the enemeh is at oua doar! We know oua duteh and we will do eet. We fight for our honor as Utramahrens, as SPESS MAHRENS, and we fight in the nehme of the Empra!
They are the best chapter so stop crying like a little bitch.
And that's why the Emperor sent them to the Eye of Terror to get Magnus back.
So he can be brutally spanked.
"The Emperor protects" ... "And having a loaded bolster never hurt either"
Screw it. It was a fun watch.
0:06 best moment in the movie.
I must say, this movie does seem to be bearable to watch.
***** I understand that. But if I can listen to Justin Bieber music for a whole two hours, watch My Little Pony for another three hours and play Ride to Hell Retribution, then surely I can watch this.
***** Oh well. But don't worry, I won't lose my sanity at least.
***** I know. But hey, hope the Lord Inquisitor is better.
+AFK man
"Hope" It's our last hope. There is no one making a dark film. Unless it's the guy directing that lord inquisitor
its slow, but not terrible for being the only current warhammer 40k movie. the detail for the armored is beautiful.
>"Chaplain, have you not a weapon?"
The emperors faith is the only weapon I need
FOR THE EMPEROR!
Come to nurgles garden nurgle welcomes you
Hedsy .The plague lord Green skin?
crashnman well I do have green skin on account of nurgle but no I'm no ork
Burn heretic BURN!!!!
U wot m80 I'll 360 nurglescope u
No higher glory than being an Ultramarine.
Chaplain voice guy is an actual actor... Or he at least sounds really similar to a guy who is.
That's John Hurt... also there's Terrence Stamp, Donald Stumpter and Sean Pertwee.. Jon "Dr Who" Pertwee's son. All "real" actors.
The voice acting and the music was good.
How come that Dawn of War intro, a game cinematic from 2004, looks far more better then this?
Higher budget from more experienced people.
Unlawful Waffle You do realise who the cast in this movie consist of, right? I don't think a poor budget is the only reason.
"Higher budget from more experienced people"
Please sir, actually read my post before replying to it.
This is why Chaplain gets to wear the skull helmet
colonel Radec? the blue space marine ?
oh yeah i noticed that too. lol
At 2:15 yes the chaplain has a weapon but he is waiting for the emperor to roll the ethereal dice
I actually like this movie
it sucks that the Black Legion in this clip never chanted their warcry, "Death to the False Emperor!"
I enjoyed this movie. Good effort and a nice action scene.
Agreed. This was a decent film.
Yup.
Katsuki 愛 It could have been better but the fact it was Warhammer 40,000 made it worth watching.
+Future 11 Bravo Agreed, they should make a movie train about Warhammer 40k like with Star Wars.
Just got to love the line “Burn Heretics”
Well, I thought that was cool.
2:27 Fear not the psyker...
UNLESS YOU'RE A HERETIC!
How about a animation about the horrid battles guardsmen have to fight through?
I agree.
apparently some Croziuses can project power fields over medium distance to knock down groups of enemies. It's in the Lexicanum.
What consoles is this coming out for?
I... I don't even....
wigster600 That was the correct question.
dude... i am sorry but it says "A Warhammer 40,000 Movie" for a reason...
Dorvuzak Uzn He was insulting the graphics quality
DXQ The graphics are alright, I'm just hoping its not PC only
That lack of dust being kicked up by the heretic astartes in the background ~1:40.
The Chaplain cast the "Justin Bieber Spell" on those Chaos Marines
The cruel bastard
Ledon has some serious skill if he can fire a bolter one-handed.
