I'm constantly reminded of the 12 Stages and where I currently am and heading towards. I'm happy to be alive, I have the privilege to be able to make videos that can help other people deal with the difficulties of life. There are many positive comments, even from some facing death and disease. I'm getting emotional. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Update: 2 Jan 2024. The dragon has been defeated. Took 2 years and 2 months (10 Nov 2021). Definitely one of the hardest and darkest periods of my life. I'm happy to see the light again. A new journey begins.
@frenzee goat i deal with all the same. I have taken small steps everyday. I think 1% better every day. The want for alcohol has naturally gone down. Not even trying. Also meditation...now I never need to look at porn. Understanding what our souls are and ego is helped
One way we can summon a heroic spirit is to, as Nietzsche told us, say "Yes" to existence, and thus embrace ourselves as we are. There we can launch ourselves to our destiny.
“I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche, The Gay Science
Existential crisis is scary. Life is fill with sufferings and meaningless. It's infinitely hard to say "Yes" to existing at all, worse still, to exist from lifetimes to lifetimes. Biggest question is why ? Why to anything at all ? To go thru all the sufferings, learnt lessons, and for what ?
@@of8ightandse7en16 i think a good answer to that question so many times asked by many is because our soul calls forward for its completion, and whatever pathway we take we need to learn to do it on our own terms understanding what was good and bad and embracing it, human beings in my opinion cannot exist all the time in that amor fati state of being because both the meaningless and what is valuable coexist within us, so we tend to fall apart and rebuild and do this over and over .. so the task of man is learning to go back to that total acceptance and embrace it understanding that things never last but we can always do it again
It's fascinating how we already know this was a thing on a subconscious level but don't fully realize it. Embedded within each of us is the spark of a hero or heroine, just waiting for a chance to be realized.
@@Blissfulbizz Conditioning is definitely a factor, but this is just as much a phenomenon of convergence as it is origination. Something about this particular format makes it "stick" to the subconscious of the masses more than other formats. Another question is if this is the best way to tell a story, or if it's just the one we subconsciously converged upon because of evolution or as a result of our specific biology.
"I believe there's a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady, and give up the thing we want the most. Even our dreams." -Aunt May
12 Stages of the Hero's Journey 1. Ordinary World. One's comfort zone. A growing awareness that something is not quite right, life is somehow lacking. *Phase I: Separation* 2. Call to Adventure. Disrupting the comfort of the Ordinary World and presenting the Hero with a quest to undertake. 3. Refusal. Communicates the risks involved in the journey ahead. Remaining here leads to a deterioration in one's life. 4. Meeting the Mentor. Assists the Hero to overcome his initial fears, can be physical or mental figures (philosopher, family, etc.) *Phase II: Initiation* 5. Crossing the First Threshold. The Hero leaves the Ordinary World and enters the Special World where he faces his dragon (worst fear, event, person...). 6. Tests, Allies and Enemies. As the Hero is likely to fail with his first encounter with the dragon, he must seek Allies and ask for help (vulnerability being a sign of resiliency). 7. Approach to the Innermost Cave. Making the final preparations before descending into the unknown. 8. The Supreme Ordeal. The greatest challenge yet and where the Hero experiences death and rebirth (death of old self and birth of new self). 9. Reward. He receives insights as his reward for his new self. But the journey is not over yet. *Phase III: The Return* 10. The Road Back. The Hero must hold his reward and make his way back to the Ordinary World, leaving the Special World. 11. The Resurrection. The Hero experiences a second death and rebirth, purifying himself from the land of the dead and can now return home. 12. Return with the Elixir. After purifying himself, he receives the Elixir. It is something for the Hero to share with others, or something with the power to heal: wisdom, love or simply the experience of surviving the Special World. The Hero comes back to his Ordinary World with a new self, having faced terrible dangers and possibly death, but now looks forward to the start of a new life.
Currently on 11. It’s painful to reintegrate but necessary. It’s been a hell of ride. I don’t regret it. It’s all settling in. Godspeed to you all who are currently on this path. Whatever number you are on, keep going. I promise it will be worth. Keep being a light.
I feel that there is a 13th step, that involves the Hero attempting to settle into the Ordinary World, but never quite integrating properly again after returning from the Special World, due to their experiences and achieved wisdom. One may try to revisit old hobbies or acquaintances, but after such elucidation the trivialities and hypocrisies become so apparent that it's almost painful to continue, a detriment to the journey one has endured, and so they must leave those things behind. Schopenhauer describes this sentiment by the face it causes upon the individual; a slightly stern and weary eye, difficulty in finding things that bring a genuine smile, the tell-tale furrowed brow that confers disappointment that so few choose to undertake their personal journey. It's an important and final step that one comes to, as the realization that they no longer need 'this' anymore, and are ready to return to the Special World when the time comes for good. The Lord of the Rings series touches upon this, Bilbo attempts to reintegrate but finds that he cannot and thus becomes reclusive and private as he makes a vain attempt to have one foot in his comfort zone, and one beyond in the vast worlds he has come to perceive. Frodo doesn't even try to reintegrate, he properly understands there is no going back anymore and chooses to leave it all behind for grander pastures. For many of us, it has all become a test of patience as we eagerly await the final toll of the bell which marks the next step.
@@Knifegash that's the irony. You end up back in the same place but with a new perspective that separates you even further from others. Nietzsche was right, you just need to chill the f out and stare at a wall. That's the only way to get the devs to add magic classes, dragons and the associated quests back to the base game.
@@satnamo I prefer to look at it like this. But even it is wrong. Religion looks outward and tells you what to think. Spiritualism looks inward and teaches you how to think.
The hero's journey is taken when we finally turn inward. Thank you, Joseph Campbell. "It's not the Mountains that we conquer, but ourselves." Sir Edmund Hillary.

This is why we need liberal arts. As a technologist, the amount of wisdom and solace that I found here is absolutely astonishing. Whoever stumbled on this is video- you are very lucky. You have found a framework that slays all anxiety and brings the sense of adventure to your journey back. Note to self: avoid comparing the quantum of elixir to that of others. Every journey is unique and so is the metamorphosis and associated reward. Thank you! Buying the writer’s journey book now. God bless the philosophers and the writers.
Since I discovered the concept of ‘The Heroes Journey’ it has intrigued and fascinated me. To me it makes so much sense. It’s not just an abstract thing. It’s basis is psychological and links to the distant past, our cultures & evolution.
@@wellthismachinekills3809 how about Shamanism where it existed in far located places (Siberia to Peru) yet had very similar practices, customs, rituals etc…luck?
Yes actually you are right. My gripe is simply how Cambell's original writings have been retrofitted overtime, and the modern concept has very incestious roots that needs a lotta unpacking.

Joseph Campbell helped me to understand that we are all the hero of our own journey and how it runs through every experience we have in life. I am Everyman and no one simultaneously.
I went through exactly this journey with the horrifying experience of heartbreak. It helped me to become familiar with the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, which seems like a hero's journey to me. I faced unimaginable grief, and had to look everywhere to heal and understand what I was going through. Ultimately it was Jesus who could really give me the answers I needed, and he is the ultimate example of resurrection of course. It's beautiful when you come to realize that all this unimaginable pain that you may go through will ultimately lead you to a higher place, if you ask the right questions and seek the right answers. Of course, it's an awful lot of work, but that's what makes you the hero. And then you see those same people who caused you pain, with their stupid little certainties... They never dared to go beyond, they never had to.
You follow the teachings of Jesus after decoding them? It is the hero's journey for sure but not many see it in there. That's a rare quality. I'm a fan of Jesus teachings. Like the Buddha, Lao Tzu and others. Your connection to myth got my attention. I see that too.
When you think about it, the life of Jesus is the core example of the Hero’s journey. I do not think that it’s a coincidence that this same spirit is in all of us. I believe it’s His spirit.
Thank you! This is hitting hard but in a good way. I feel like I’m in the last stage and all I get to do is man up, and step into my god given power with in. I am supremely motivated to put everything together and walk that narrow path. I’ve been justifying my fear of responsibility up until now. I get to rebuild than inner muscle. Appreciate this message

I cannot experience life by thinking about it because life is not a problem to be solved but a reality to be experienced. Life is not a hero’s journey because life is heroic or nothing.
@@satnamo It wasn't said in this video that life is a problem. Embracing the hero archetype within is about experiencing life in a more honest, real way - where you might overcome delusions, and realise your true nature. The fact is: some people feel they have problems at times, and going on an inner hero's journey can transform their despair into a life of nourishing, positive, meaningful spiritual awareness.
I been studying spirituality for 30 years now. Since I was a teenager. It always feels like I’m remembering something I already knew. I know this is not very common cause I talk to family and friends and they have no idea what I’m talking about. I’m sure you guys here understand what I’m saying, right?
Thank you kind one, for such an eloquent way of connecting words that speak blessings to you… and for whoever is here, may you be blessed on your journey too 🕊️
This came at a time where I very much needed. I've been a competitive athlete nearly all my life. Nothing but sports and competition and I used it to numb myself to the world. No other responsibilities except training and competing and certainly no time to process emotional or physiological depths or traumas or persue anything else hobby wise. Now just under a month shy of my 27th birthday that's come to a sudden halt with injuries.....its terrifying to suddenly confront a world where I don't have that aspect of me that made me "special" or "tough" and I have absolutely no clue what I'm going to do with my life now. A different kind of journey to the one I've been on and thought I'd always be on, I've hit the "refusal" stage and struggling very much to see a way out and a new path to embark on.
Happened to me as well, i got on the same path again but with knew knowledge and ambitions, language learning basically saved me during my injuris and the end of my passion to lift professionally
A note on the refusal stage: If you don't take action, the Universe will take action for you. About 3 years ago, I had the rug ripped out from under me, getting fired from a job (it was an unjust firing) and lost my cat the same day- I had to make the choice to have him put down. It was the absolute worst day of my life. And totally out of the blue, and left me unprepared. But it led me on my hero's journey, and looking back I am so grateful.
12:30 People say that what we're seeking is a meaning for life... I think that what we're seeking is an experience of being alive. That hit hard. Thank you for this video
Seeking the meaning of life is what has lead to invention of religion, countless scientific discoveries, art, etc. Arguably we'd all still be cavemen without the inherent need to seek meaning.
@@satnamo Hope i could say that easy. With money issues, war, pestilence, death of loved ones, how can we even proclaim life is not a problem but just a reality, like a game, to be experienced ?
@@of8ightandse7en16 well life is certainly no game at all. To be born into existence is also to inevitably experience the tragedy, pain and sufferings that comes with it; willing to embrace all aspects of life and learn to live in accord with reality, is how we actualize ourselves and find meaning and beauty in our existence.
I was always seeking it subconsciously, that is what I needed. Suffering, adventure, fullfillment of my destiny, realisation of my potential. Who knew that old stories of ancient heros are not just stories, but guiedence to a man`s nature. Thank you.

Finally coming to the return. I've spent almost seven years taking the hero's journey literally. Walked the world, fought the darkness, aided the weak. Now I have finished all my ordeals and gotten my reward. I can return from the land of the dead at last.
Thank you. I enjoyed your video very much. Joseph Campbell has been one of my greatest mentors since I was a teenager many years ago. He helped me make sense of many shocking changes in my life. All the best to you.
Oh, how difficult it is to follow that inner guidance, especially because all of the outside society constantly reminding me that I am doing everything wrong, that my choices are crazy. But I could never go back to the life I lived before, it would be the death of me. And again, every video I watch is amazing!
Found this channel few months back and I'm just amazed by the quality work you produce. Best wishes and thank you for producing such high quality content. Also I can't thank you enough for providing the transcript.
I found Campbell over 30 years ago and he's remained my favorite teacher . Along with Jung , Jewish scriptures , and Plato teaching me myth and the allegory along with the many symbols that tie them together. ⭐
I was frightened and surprised how precisely the journey and it's phases fit to me and my current, as well as my past experiences. It speaks my mind. I never knew how to express it and now I do

That last comment really helped to actually here it from someone else, that eternity is already here, there is no waiting for heaven to experience it. I find that incredibly healing for anyone who doesn't live this life because they think heaven is the eternity as if it didn't include earth. Eternity is integrated across all realms whether you go to one form or another, so you might as well live the purpose in the eternity you truly been seeking for in absolution.
The hero’s journey is essentially our maturity into the subjective experience we’re immortal spirits that don’t die and the discovery of our true self as the feeling state of our bodies is what we desire to cultivate more than anything else in the world. The embodiment of truth and living from a faith defined as our bodily response to life…the true life of our soul emerging from within us…this is the Heroes journey.
Dude your videos are so freakin good it’s not even funny. Been a minute since I’ve found a channel like yours. Nice to listen to, very deep but not explained in a pretentious way. This might sound crazy, I know there’s an algorithm. But I feel like I’m being guided right now to become what I am truly meant to become. Even videos who’s titles don’t talk about his concept or the concept of overcoming fear keep coming to me and many many other synchronicities have been at play in my daily life.
I've been reading both the hero with a thousand faces and the writers journey for a little while now and this video has really helped to cement some of the moth core elements, thank you!
On Campbell and bliss, I don't know whom to attribute this statement but it is still relevant I think. "If you wish to know where the heart lies, look to where the mind wanders when it is alone". At least, in the context of finding yours.
Wow. The hair on the back of my neck is standing up. I've been on several heroes journeys in my life. 20 years in the military. 3 years to heal and fight dragons in Mexico. Heroic journey start by as JP puts it "cleaning your room" Sleep well, eat well, exercise well and do the things you know you should do but dont do with time given everyday while still breathing.
Well, I can certainly say I'm being dragged along reluctantly, doing barely enough to survive, rather than be more proactive about my own life. I wonder if it's within me to improve this state or this is just how I am. This is my personality make-up. I'm not sad at all, don't get me wrong, but I would certainly rather have more disposable income, but that comes at a cost of precious time which as of yet I haven't been willing to sacrifice. Not that I do much useful with that free time. Wow this video is resonating hugely..! I worked a job with diminishing returns, as you say (circa 5 mins) and decided to quit and go travelling. A call to adventure. I then came home, five years later, and am now back in the rut of not enjoying my work and feeling incredibly unfulfilled. Perhaps time for another adventure...
I have died and had to come back to this world. After finding God's perfection and his peace he offers you come back to this world and can see how filthy it really is. All the pain of it is sad. God bless you and yours
I used this vídeo from now on to introduced everybody who is able to into the work of Joseph Campbell. Beautiful and inspirational work you have made here. Thanks again!
Amazing video. Have watched several time. So well done. Has helped me with my challenges and reframed the work I am doing to overcome my weaknesses. Thanks.
Such an obvious perceptions goes by with ease. We talk about life like it isn't our own we're using, or that rare occasion of speaking on anywhere, to state such a detached statement.
Right now I’m in the refusal stage, but I’m slowly coming out of it as I’m starting to accept my circumstances and now might have a mentor there to guide me into the right direction
GENIAL!!!!!!!!!!!.UNA LUZ BRILLANTE EN EL CAMINO DE LA INDIVIDUACION. Gracias por esta síntesis del Camino del Héroe de Joseph Campbell ,al que admiro en profundidad
There are no cowards is Heaven. Have Faith and when opportunity presents itself for self discovery and to become who you were created to be………leap! Don’t just accept who you are……revel in it. See yourself as God sees you!
It is so hard than it looks, believe me, it is so damn hard. Its so difficult to not loose the mind in journey and not backing up in exchange for comfort
I find its kind of like having boundaries that are led by fear, wether justified or not, you'll reach a point where this boundary is pushed. It will be pushed willingly or against ones will. Once you surive the crossing of said boundary, often it is far weaker or doesnt exist at all anymore. Example, you wont travel by boat for fear of pirates yet one day your forced to boat across the world & are in fact taken hostage by pirates! but you survive. While most would avoid boats after, you'll find that many will actually return to sea with a new attituted of strength/will. There may still be some fear, but the person has already confronted their worst fear, pirates, so why continue avoiding the sea as the worst has already happened. Also while the ordeal was traumatic or hard, along the way you may have noticed some cool/beautiful things. These beautiful things you noticed even amongst the chaos/horror is what will lead you back to the sea once again.
I decided to compare this to a story I'm working on, and somehow it follows the hero's journey to an extent without paying attention to the hero's journey the ordinary world is well, the ordinary world. the main opponent (enemy kingdom who is trying to take over the world) is in the ordinary world but the mentor and allies are in the special world. There is no refusal of the call since as put in the story: 'It (a report from a scout) described yet another attack on our villages by an enemy who is growing stronger with each passing day.' Quick note I just realized I should explain what's going on in the story. It follows a prince who at the beginning of the story is two days away from becoming king. And has to deal with an enemy kingdom who is quickly becoming unstoppable. Sounds like a great time to become king...The world he's in is medieval, the enemy kingdom is in this world. There is another dimension that is based on our world. The other dimension comes into the hero's dimension quite often and Atheridge (a city state in the other dimension) will often have emergency services over there. Early on in the story the AFD (Atheridge Fire Department) shows up during a structure fire in the capital city. The mentor in this case is a few people from Atheridge. There from the Atheridge Police Department with information about the enemy and offering support in the battle (also making them the ally). The first threshold is crossing through the portal into the other dimension (this is after the coronation ceremony). The hero gets the information about the enemy at the Atheridge Police Department's headquarter. Soon after comes the first test which is meant to kill the hero but they barely survive (and this is in the beginning I'm starting to worry about what I'll have happen later.) This event is best explained via an excerpt from the book '...It is starting to get late at this point and we decided to continue planning tomorrow. We also planned on me staying at Aidan's place. (going to jump in here, he came to Atheridge with three people, Kyle, Sean, and Aidan. Kyle and Sean are the ones who had the information and normally deal with classified information. Aidan is just a patrol officer who volunteered to escort them while in the other dimension and was given clearance to all information related to the enemy kingdom.) He (Aidan) still had some paperwork to do so it would be a bit before we went. Kyle and Sean went home, I went to the next door park going outside with them. Kyle drove home while Sean took the bus, the line's destination is the train station. (Has suburban rail lines). There isn't many people in the park, one person seemed to recognize me. They then came over to me and said. "Your hard to find king Antesh. Not that it matters now." He grabbed something out of this coat pocket, b the time I realized what it was it was too late. Next thing I knew there was a loud bang and I was left stumbling backwards and fell down. Then I realized that I've been shot. I watched as the people around ran away. I thought to myself, is this how it ends? After all this and how much there is to come, just to come to an end like this. Why did I come out here? If I just stayed inside I would have been find. And why does he want to kill me, who sent him? I watched as the gun was raised to finished the job, unable to do anything to stop it. Suddenly he stopped, I heard something...someone saying something. I struggled to hear what was being said. "Police! Put the gun down!" The attacker froze for a split second then began to raise the gun, quickly this time. The reaction came quickly, closer this time. "Don't do it! If you raise the gun you will be shot!" The attacker stopped realizing he wouldn't be able to finish killing me and began glancing around. "There's nowhere to go, give it up!" The attacker dropped the gun, and tried to run away. He didn't get very far before he was tackled by an officer. I started to lost consciousness the last thing I heard was: "Suspect in custody. Requesting EMS for a person shot at the scene." After some time I regained consciousness unsure of how much time had passed. I don't think that it's been very long since I'm still on the ground. The attacker and their gun is gone. Someone is applying pressure to the wound in order to control the bleed. The sound of a siren pierced the air, breaking the silence. I fell unconscious again. Some time later I regained consciousness again. This time I'm in a hospital...' So while the first test is supposed to fail, is this going to far? The attacker is just someone hired to kill the hero by the enemy kingdom. What I have beyond this point so far is still in the hospital. This is nowhere near the supreme ordeal. Phase 6 is going to go for a while although 6 and 7 will probably blur together. Most of the hero's journey I'm nowhere near far enough to compare to. That being said (or typed as the case may be) the elixir is simply just safety for his people and the allies with the enemy no longer trying to kill everyone. Also the enemy has a mage who is powerful enough to bend the fabric of reality, they're almost unstoppable but do have some weaknesses. Not knowing the technology Atheridge has and thus not being able to effectively counteract it. And how magic works in that multiverse. The use of magic costs energy, while it can be regained by sleeping overuse will lead to exhaustion and the inability to cast more spells until rested. Also when casting a spell the uses more energy then you have the spell will stop when you run out of energy. Depending on the spell stopping midway can cause disastrous results. The mage will be the supreme ordeal (and they most likely won't survive in the end). I've been writing this story in my spare time at school because what else am I supposed to do, read? I was going through a book a day.
This was just beautiful. Epiphany after epiphany. Had the heros journey on my buy list. Gonna order it as soon as possible and probably the inspired version too. Thank you for this video it was just great
As my grandfather once said to me.... "see all those graves boy" i replied yes Grandad....he said "those are all heroes, do you see how its always empty"... i replied yes.
The hero goes off on the journey (psychogically speaking) alone to fight "the fears/dragons" he must conquer to obtain the bliss he is seeking. He may make new friends/allies (or enemies for that matter) on the way...the overcoming of tribulations is what tempers the steel within for self-actualisation...on the "hero's" return he may find his old friends may not all prove to be true friends after all.
It's actually the reverse most people today rely upon friend groups too much never going on the heroes journey they sit in their safe zone calling themselves victims, the heroes journey is about discovering yourself so how can you find a true friendship if you don't know who you are
@@aurora8749 It said that in everyone there is a "male" and a "female". Perhaps you are developing your male part? They need to be in balance. A woman can truly develop her woman aspect as long as she has developed her male part to the needed level. But there is a trap here, if you develop for too long only one of your parts, you are gooing to suffer thinking you are in the wrong body.(this happens a lot nowdays, because people are confused by everyone around them telling them what to be and what not to be). We must be like water, taking any shape necessary.
@@satnamo I don't understand how self development is exclusive to males or a male attribute. I have seen many women improve themselves beyond anything I've ever seen in a male. I have witnessed it in a male but not to the same degree. I myself went from caring more about the outer world to always being focused on betterment of myself and service to people around me. I used to do drugs and drink and depend on other people to survive. I'd sleep all day and I was very selfish, only doing what served me. Now I have been sober for 9 years. I support a family on my own. I have two jobs, I am the only one who cooks and cleans. I always help out whoever I can and expect nothing in return. I don't focus on material wealth or desiring false affection. I don't see people as utilities and I don't look down on others to build my own ego. I also know two other women who have gone through similar transformations. The idea that only men are capable of it is silly.
That's how I see life now at 33 years old. My old ego fear based me always tries to frighten me. But it is a beautiful world, life and time. So blessed. I will work harder
I think I’ve been in refusal for a long time, and I’m starting to open my eyes. The idea that I’m living the life I ought to be living is rough because it means I’m fully responsible for where I am, and where I will be. Nobody is going to tell me what quest to go on. I need to figure that out for myself. My refusal to embark on quest means I live in fear in my room and get dragged out occasionally by work. When I encounter an obstacle/dragon in unfamiliar territory (like challenges at work) it reveals my strengths but more often weaknesses. I don’t like what I see. But if I refuse to look at my weaknesses and mistakes then I fear I might wither away in this world. Eventually the walls of my room will collapse and my parents won’t be there to protect me. I can wait until that happens, at which point I will be an older man burdened by more regret, or I can venture out with a purpose as I am now, fully seeing my weaknesses, confronting my shadow as I fight dragons. I want to evolve and change shape instead of being a rock. Acceptance is a bitter pill to swallow. I am where I am, this is who I am currently, these are my weaknesses, this is my situation. There are things to be grateful for too. Coworkers couldn’t be better. Family is cool. There is no war. I have a car. A partner is out there if I choose to become someone who can do that. I don’t like crybaby’s but sometimes I act like one. The reason I’m in my twenties but still a child is many ways is because I lack the experience that would have grown me, pained me, grown me, contort me in different ways, change my shape. There are many opportunities, countless opportunities for me to change my shape and get a little closer to becoming someone I want to be. The journey is dangerous but maybe it’s finally time I see that if I’m going to die anyway, I’d rather die out there, experiencing potential peaks and definite dangers, than in here where I’m sure to wither away. It’s great that I can come here to rest and recover and gear up, but I don’t want to be dragged out by the world, I want to venture out on my own and become that person who might carve their own path. I fear some things like death but chances are I will survive, maybe even thrive.
I'm not exactly sure where I am on this journey, but know that I am on it and, about to enter the next phase. Absolutely certain I found this channel exactly when I needed to. Godspeed to the rest of you. LIVE.

I'm currently facing a dragon of my own, and although extremely scary and difficult, the Hero's Journey is proving tremendously useful for me.

One way we can summon a heroic spirit is to, as Nietzsche told us, say "Yes" to existence, and thus embrace ourselves as we are. There we can launch ourselves to our destiny.
Without de Dao
There is no Will
“I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche, The Gay Science
Existential crisis is scary. Life is fill with sufferings and meaningless. It's infinitely hard to say "Yes" to existing at all, worse still, to exist from lifetimes to lifetimes.
Biggest question is why ? Why to anything at all ? To go thru all the sufferings, learnt lessons, and for what ?
@@of8ightandse7en16 for wisdom
Collective Counsiousness
@@christiankim911 collective unconscious
That’s just priming from the stories we’ve all heard throughout our lives
@@Blissfulbizz Conditioning is definitely a factor, but this is just as much a phenomenon of convergence as it is origination. Something about this particular format makes it "stick" to the subconscious of the masses more than other formats. Another question is if this is the best way to tell a story, or if it's just the one we subconsciously converged upon because of evolution or as a result of our specific biology.
"I believe there's a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady, and give up the thing we want the most. Even our dreams."

12 Stages of the Hero's Journey
1. Ordinary World. One's comfort zone. A growing awareness that something is not quite right, life is somehow lacking.
*Phase I: Separation*
2. Call to Adventure. Disrupting the comfort of the Ordinary World and presenting the Hero with a quest to undertake.
3. Refusal. Communicates the risks involved in the journey ahead. Remaining here leads to a deterioration in one's life.
4. Meeting the Mentor. Assists the Hero to overcome his initial fears, can be physical or mental figures (philosopher, family, etc.)
*Phase II: Initiation*
*Phase III: The Return*
3 phases of a hero’s journey:
1. Call for adventure
2. Enter das dragon
3. De hero returns home
Currently on 11. It’s painful to reintegrate but necessary. It’s been a hell of ride. I don’t regret it. It’s all settling in. Godspeed to you all who are currently on this path. Whatever number you are on, keep going. I promise it will be worth. Keep being a light.
Amen Brother's and Sister's ❤ and light

That last sentence hit different. You are awakened and enlightened. Funny how darkness brings us to light

One must answer the call. This is by far one the best videos I've come across all year.🔥
A note on the refusal stage: If you don't take action, the Universe will take action for you.
@ Jessica Shac...I empathize about the cat experience...For me it was an excruciating sorrow...💔
12:30 People say that what we're seeking is a meaning for life... I think that what we're seeking is an experience of being alive.
That hit hard. Thank you for this video
Life is not a problem to be solved because life is a reality to be experienced.
Seeking the meaning of life is what has lead to invention of religion, countless scientific discoveries, art, etc. Arguably we'd all still be cavemen without the inherent need to seek meaning.
Living life is the point of life
@@satnamo Hope i could say that easy.
Thank you.

Very refreshing to see someone use the apostrophe correctly.

I decided to compare this to a story I'm working on, and somehow it follows the hero's journey to an extent without paying attention to the hero's journey
the ordinary world is well, the ordinary world. the main opponent (enemy kingdom who is trying to take over the world) is in the ordinary world but the mentor and allies are in the special world.
There is no refusal of the call since as put in the story: 'It (a report from a scout) described yet another attack on our villages by an enemy who is growing stronger with each passing day.'
Quick note I just realized I should explain what's going on in the story.
Soon after comes the first test which is meant to kill the hero but they barely survive (and this is in the beginning I'm starting to worry about what I'll have happen later.) This event is best explained via an excerpt from the book
'...It is starting to get late at this point and we decided to continue planning tomorrow.
Not that it matters now."
He grabbed something out of this coat pocket, b the time I realized what it was it was too late.
If you raise the gun you will be shot!"
The attacker stopped realizing he wouldn't be able to finish killing me and began glancing around.
"There's nowhere to go, give it up!"
The attacker dropped the gun, and tried to run away. He didn't get very far before he was tackled by an officer. I started to lost consciousness the last thing I heard was:
"Suspect in custody. Requesting EMS for a person shot at the scene."
After some time I regained consciousness unsure of how much time had passed. I don't think that it's been very long since I'm still on the ground. The attacker and their gun is gone. Someone is applying pressure to the wound in order to control the bleed. The sound of a siren pierced the air, breaking the silence. I fell unconscious again.
Some time later I regained consciousness again. This time I'm in a hospital...'
So while the first test is supposed to fail, is this going to far?
We all know the kind of things we resist, and we know too who the dragon is. Im with all of you guys, we must do our best.
I watch this several times a month. And even fall asleep with it on at night sometimes
wow. that last quote was awesome
Your video made me cry... Great job!!
It very much aligns with the story of Christ. The self doubt, death and resurrection
Not really more like Return Of king. story of Horus/lion king
This was just beautiful. Epiphany after epiphany. Had the heros journey on my buy list. Gonna order it as soon as possible and probably the inspired version too. Thank you for this video it was just great
Bruce Lee and Malcolm X have been my spiritual leaders. They've taught and guided me so through so much in my.
I love this video and the way you make them, I keep coming back to this one in particular
As my grandfather once said to me.... "see all those graves boy" i replied yes Grandad....he said "those are all heroes, do you see how its always empty"... i replied yes.
You have just summarized the last 2 years of my life, almost perfectly. Great job!
this journey only works if you have friends and allies. most people are alone now and the journey is not fulfilled
Silence is my best friend.
This!
Then you must build the strength alone. It can be done.
It's actually the reverse most people today rely upon friend groups too much never going on the heroes journey they sit in their safe zone calling themselves victims, the heroes journey is about discovering yourself so how can you find a true friendship if you don't know who you are
A man must become, to actualize his worth - the hero’s journey is the path of the male both psychologically and spiritually
What I am
I must be
Because otherwise I will be miserable until I die.
It is my path so far but I'm not male
@@aurora8749 “I support a family on my own” 😬
Thank you for making these videos ❤
Wonderful summary. Thank you for your generosity.
There is an old saying , *when going through hell , keep going ". That means the only way through hell is forward and out the other side.
Beautiful pictures. Great subject. Loving your video.
The artworks are mesmerizing
What I see in the front of my eyes is
what is going on inside my head.
What are we SEARCHING for?! HEAVEN IS HERE ON EARTH! We are co-creators of the things we focus on!
When I focus my mind on 1 thing at 1 time,
I am a genius
LIVE.
Back to the ordinary world after very long and painful 5 years but very worth it🙏
The hero's journey is the blueprint use it to construct your story from the ground up
Thanks for this video, I need to read that book inmediatly
I'm all that Is,

Yes, I believe this. 🙌
Thank you for sharing. 😊
Thank you first of all for making me understand who I am and whats been happening in my life, if I wrote a comment stating what my life's has been like know one would believe it, so I'll just say this video completely changed me as the person I was,,Thank you for making me understand, everything seems so clear In my mind now!Blown away..
Well done my friend!!!
The picture of Victor Frankenstein for a heroes journey though 💀
I will keep moving forward, until I fulfil my destiny ! Fearlessness and strength of character are on my side !
That was amazing. I think it really helps to conceive of life in this way. Metaphorically. Challenges and fears as dragons to be slayed. It's rejuvenating and energizing.
