At the example of "slepT well lasT night" we gotta be very careful in order not to say the "T" sound, because it's a "stop T" its like saying "its a great car" without the "T" will become "its a gray car" completely different
It helps me a lot with my English studies. Thank you. I have a request. "can" and "can't" sound similar. Could you make a video next time to show how they are pronounced differently?
That is what I'm looking for. ‘Can’ and ‘can't’ sound very similar, which often causes me to misunderstand. However, they have completely opposite meanings. thank you in advance.
Hi Brittany. I'm from Brazil and I'm trying to learn your idiom. I've been studying english every day by myself, but I confess, it isn't easy. Here in my country, we use our connected speech and reductions the entire time too. Your videos are great and you're really nice. Thanks a lot.
Eres una excelente profesora, hablas de temas muy difíciles con claridad. El que no controla bien el idioma se pierde al escuchar los could, would, should+ have y lo explicas muy bien.
Many years ago, when I was starting to learn English while I listened to The Beatles white album at the same time I read the lyrics in it, one thing that called my attention was the flap sound, which sounds like an r in Spanish (I'm Chilean); so for English speaking learners of Spanish, as an example, if you want to pronounce correctly the r in the Spanish word "clara", you can use the flap sound in the English word better. Thank you, Brittany. Well done. You've got my like and subscription. Sergio.
In my opinion, this way of speaking fast is more difficult than normal. I can understand when natives speak this way, but I can't speak that fast. I'll speak normally. Who knows, in the future, this way could be easier for me. Thanks! I appreciate your video; it's useful! I'm Brazilian! 🇧🇷
Suddenly I felt bad because I realized that I was enjoying the video and that I hadn't "liked" it yet, so I stopped it and did it. Ms. Brittany, I discovered your channel a couple of months ago and you don't know how much inspiration each of your videos gives me, because maybe deep down, it's you who inspires me. Thank you so much, really, for all the dedication that you clearly put into your work, thank you so much for the resources that you provide us and thank you also for sharing all your knowledge in such a genuine way. 💖 Here is a student who will one day achieve great mastery of English and of which you will be a part. 💫

Mam I'm so confused. 1) Suppose I'm in class 10 and one of my friends is say to me what to do and not in college and reply to him "What if don't pass 10th" or "What if i didn't pass 10th" So what's the difference between these two and what's best to use?? I'm so confused in subjunctive specially in past one. 2) I wish i went or I wish i would go?? 3) My dilemma is here Sir.. *"They wouldn't or might not even know that their house is burglarizedd"* ( in the present somehow i got to know this news and the house owner isn't at home and I'm saying it to myself ) So here I'm not guessing or speculating but just saying it for no reason I mean sometimes we say like this? When we aren't actually emphasizing on something but just express things this way..Even we know they absolutely don't know about it still?? If i used "MUST" then it wouldn't imply that I'm guessing something with strong and firm evidence?? 4) let's say I'm biking to my home and suddenly i encounter a pothole and i have to move aside my two wheeler in no time to avoid it and a lady is behind me on her two-wheeler hit into it and starts quarreling and i say "HOW WOULD I KNOW (in advance) that there's pothole ahead?" So this would be correct? Because ( I'm not talking about any future thing ) I'm saying it for present and it's very obvious, I don't know how to express such a thing. Please correct me if I'm wrong and thanks in advance 🙏
OMG. I learnt English from an English teacher who used to speak like the unforgettable Queen Elisabeth in a public formal speech. "Did you = Ja"? OMG. God save English from Americans! 😁 Jokes apart. Really a good video, as usual!
Thanks a whole lot from Russian ESL students! Keep up the awesome work! We'd really appreciate it if you could you upload more videos presenting US idioms and slang expressions so that we could start communicating with native American speakers on an entirely different level. Also we'd like to see videos on your great channel featuring samples of job interviews, which is extremely critical for newly arrived immigrants as well as people coming to the US to work for a period of time stipulated in the contract. We are especially interested in customs and traditions as well as rules and regulations a typical American citizen is trying to follow. In addition, it would be great if you could give some valuable advice to new immigrants on where and why they had better settle down in the US in order to land a good job, get married and start a family. Those of us who are planning to get into a romantic relationship with Americans would like to get a better idea about personality traits of an average man or woman born and raised in the US. If you watch and listen to a session of Congress, members of both chambers speak so clearly that it's easy to understand. it's the language of the street that's hard to understand sometimes.
You’re right! I do want to make a distinction however between “slang”/casual English and connected speech. They seem similar and are easily confused. Congress/government officials and others in positions of authority usually won’t use slang but they very often do use connected speech. You’ll find many examples of connected speech in their sentences if you listen for them!
