Raymond Fairchild with a band backing him up is unbeatable. He's a legend and one of the 5 best to do it. That's being modest. I think he's the GOAT. Saw him in a small town around 2005. He was a good friend of my Daddy.
This is amazing, how can someone play with such virtuosity, precision and humour? The fact that he stays dead pan throughout the entire performance is just dizzyingly brilliant.
Raymond Fairchild has passed away God bless if y'all would say prayer for his family. He was the King of the Smokey Mountain banjo players but more than that a great man and I'll miss him.
Even Raymond would say Earl Scruggs is the greatest ever. In fact every famous 3 finger bluegrass picker would probably list Earl Scruggs as the greatest. Earl has inspired more people to try to buy a 5 string banjo than anyone else. He was also so good in his prime his seemingly effortless supreme playing made thousands give up trying to emulate his exact sound or give it up all together.
@obscenegrace2003 I would imagine that he needs to concentrate on what he is doing. Gracing the crowd with smiles is probably the last thing on his mind.

Look up his Obituary. Such a lost treasure
Saw Raymond and the Crowe brothers several times as a kid at bluegrass festivals in the 80's. Great memories!

@@fergyspoolshotshave you heard of don reno?
@@AnthonyBarber-y7i yes I have , but every banjo player has heard of Earl Scruggs.
@@fergyspoolshots that doesn't mean hese the "best picker" it means he's the most famous
@@AnthonyBarber-y7i The “best” is a matter of choice but the fact few people know of Don Reno’s banjo playing means he wasn’t the best either.
Thank you for the memories RIP Raymond. Spent many nights taking in your soul blessing music.

put this this guy before todays average "soul" Guitarist.....he`d loose him!...after all todays stuff is crap...no doubt about it!
@obscenegrace2003 I agree that he's not Roy Clark as far as grinning...but playing, Roy Clark ain't him!!
Now if he had just played the banjo behind his head and set it on fire at the end of the set, he might have been a success.
Oh and another thing--dying from a drug overdose would have also enshrined him in the "Hall Of Fame".
Rehdman6444 he is in the bluegrass hall of fame...
americasayslol: And well deserved. I just recently discovered Raymond Fairchild on TH-cam. He's the best banjo player I have ever seen!!
Fuck...
a true mt man and he hates hippies if theres 1 in the audence he will not play there he will leave
high quality of finger play... low in face expression
