Formed in Manchester, England in 1985, Simply Red are led by the iconic singer Mick Hucknall. Their first album, Picture Book, remains a classic. Mick Hucknall had however been in a punk band The Frantic Elevators but then reformed a band with some session musicians, had a few names such as World Service and Just Red before becoming Simply Red.
The Simply Red version is a cover of a track originally written and released by the American Valentine Brothers, John and Billy who released the track in 1982 as a kind of funk version of the track.

John, I don't think I've heard this song, in at least 30-35 years. Great dance vibe. Thank you for bringing it back into my ears. Mick certainly had a great voice. Got to see him about 2 years ago and the decades have not been particularly kind to him. He didn't sound bad, at all. His voice is still very decent. Like all of us, the years takes a little of the polish off in places.
