The Beverly Center was never a very busy mall like Century City or Westside Pavillion malls, not even during the 80s/90s. Their appeal has always been more to high end shoppers and not the hang-out crowd. It aligns itself with Rodeo Drive more than a typical family mall.
Century City is the high end "Rodeo Drive" mall, not Beverly Center. Beverly center is aging terribly. I can't believe they remodeled it only to keep the dated claustrophobic indoor style. It has high end stores sure, but no one wants to shop there when you can go to CC or Rodeo Drive instead.
I used to go to Beverly Center like every week around 2001- probably 2010 or so. The gove was opened like 20 years ago? then started going there more often than Beverly Center. Beverly Center was thriving when they had a movie theatre on top floor and also book store (forgot the name) and now it's so empty everytime we go. now Americana and Santa Monica Place (renewed) etc so many competition and I can tell BC is struggling for past 15 years or so. Brings back many memories from back in the day, started shopping there in the mid-80s. Early 90s, there was a club in the basement called Ava's which was run by Ava Fabian, Playboy playmate.
Ava's was awesome and there was another club there I think it was called Tramps on the bottom floor as well as and I might be misspelling it called Pinafini which was super fun.
I haven't finished watching your video yet, but that Beverly center used to be Beverly Park, my dad used to take my older sister's there when they were little, before I was born. My sister has some photos.
Hey Mike! With the excessive high retail crime going on now, some stores now monitor and limit the number of people that can be inside the store at one time. These stores set a limit for the number of people that can be inside. Another way of controlling and deterring retail theft. I was at a mall one day and the Vans store and Crocs store had a line outside the store to get in to shop.
@@sophist1cated Lines to control how many go into a store is liberal logic in California. When you get 30+ people descending into a store to rob it, no line is going to stop them.
When I lived in LA 2000-2001 I loved this mall. When I came back in 2016 I was shocked to see how much LA had deteiorated. The De AMO Mall in Torrance had a store selling second hand dvds and books.
I'm lucky to be getting old. Remember when Del Amo mall site was open fields and swamp where we caught turtles & lizards. The 91 freeway didn't exist & others only partially built. Botanical Garden in PV was a dump site. Dominguez Hills was open space & oil derricks. Didn't have to pay to park at the beach. Marineland, Nike missle base, and lots of snakes in Palos Verdes. No traffic family Sunday drives. Kids roamed the streets on bikes & shot bb guns in the open fields. Huge naval base & shipyard in San Pedro /Long Beach. The Pike & POP. No skyscrapers in downtown L.A. Still had oranges, cows, and dairys around. Not much of anything in Orange /Ventura Counties were mostly small towns and agriculture. Ocean Blvd in Long Beach was full of sailors & peep shows. Colorado Blvd in Pasadena was not fancy at all same nor was State Sreet in Santa Barbara. Disneyland was an inexpensive family oriented destination (same as Knoxs). Would spot celebreties around the westside & Hollywood no big deal. Pace of life in SoCal was much slower & was known to be "laid back". The SoCal from my childhood is a long gone cherished distant memory.

Mike they remodeled that entire mall about 7 years ago and all those stores are new. That’s why you don’t remember them because those stores were not there nor was the mall constructed like it is now. It’s pretty much a new mall since you were last there 17 years ago.
No food court is a no go for me. Here in Prague when I go to the Palladium or another mall the first thing I do is get a beer and a snack to help me get through shopping.
I once saw a sketch of that intersection, Beverly and San Vicente from the year 1940. It showed a billboard advertising Whisky, and, get this: an oil derrick! This oil well is still pumping oil and is hidden below the mall. The book containing the drawing, "Nuestra Pueblo" copywrite 1940.
I moved away from LA in 1996, so I haven't been to this mall for ages. It was a favorite spot for me to window shop and go see indie films at the movie theater. Given how malls are dying off, nice to see this place is still doing well.

I haven't been to The Beverly Center since pre-911 when parking was $2.00 all day. There was a Brazilian BBQ steakhouse on the ground floor. There was a Rexall Drugstore across the street that had everything. Bullock's Dept Store once had the space that Macy's now occupies. Traffic is crazy in this area on account of Cedar's Sinai Hosp. 1-2 blocks away from the mall. I've been visiting Cedars more recently-a hazard which comes with age.

They’ll make a comeback … but in in a funny retro way when people want to go back and discover things like a novelty. Or when people realize that the internet is dangerous for society as a whole and AZ is forced to close or people boycott it … we’re in the beginning of a massive sociological experiment … and I think things will revert but in how long is the question
If im not wrong , there was a food court years ago ?? 🤔 Wow i looks kinda different now , I haven't been there in years , on time i saw Blondie with a little girl , probably her daughter coming down the stairs as i was going up , i was excited to see her so close 😀
I keep reading that malls are dying and I’ve been to some but it seems like Beverly Center, Glendale Galleria, Americana and the Grove are always busy. Even the Spectrum in Irvine, Fashion Island in Newport and Rodeo Dr. Are still busy but I think the small store are disappearing. Oh and South Coast Plaza is packed.

Sold my condo on Burton Way in Beverly Hills, a 15 minute walk to the Beverly Center. Many homeless began showing up in tents along the center median and surrounding the Beverly Center. Moved to a tropical paradise outside of the US, and have never been happier.
Congratulations on your move! I am happy to report, however, that Burton Way has been restored to its glory. The center median are all restored now with green grass and there is a “no camping” ordinance along the entirety of Burton Way and the surrounding neighborhood. No encampments on or around Burton anymore, and the police do a great job keeping it that way. This happened about a year ago and it’s been doing well ever since.
I’ve shopped and worked at the Beverly Center for years. I think one of the biggest downsides to it is that it doesn’t have a food court. On top of that, shoplifting and smash and grabs have become so common in California it makes people feel uneasy working and shopping in malls. Also the Beverly Center tries to cater to both the high end crowd and the average Joe but I think these days they’re losing both of them while trying to maintain their identity as a mall. For me these days I’d rather drive a little further and go to Glendale Galleria or Culver City mall where there is free parking, a food court, a gym, more stores for the working class people and feels a little safer.
@@thedeadbaby some parts of it. Where the Beverly Center is can be a little unsafe. A lot of sketchy individuals hang around across the street by the Beverly Connection and the gas station next to it.

But the real problem is, the elevator wouldn't take me to the floor that I wanted to go to. I had to get out, and take the escalator.
I HATE those elevators. Went after remodel, experiened that damn elevator & never went back. Such a great mall in the 80s. It's finished.@@imagesinla8575
You have a great apartment. Very cool stuff, one of a kind. Thanks for sharing.
I'm so old that I remember when that piece of property was Beverly Park with pony rides and other fun stuff for kids.
Me, too! I’m 72 now!
Me too. Lived in View Park back then.
Wow… and stayed in LA this whole time ?
Kids have tic tok and pornhub now
Ahhhh, Things That Aren't Here Anymore
A lil GIV to brighten up my day ❤
@shaynalee, the GIV always leaves me smiling, or laughing, he is just a genuine good guy.
G-d bless.

Wow! Mike! Your living room looks so great now. I love the wall paintings of the Sixth Street area.
We would dress up when going to a high end Mall. Hey, your art in your apartment is very nice!!
Yeah if you dress up a little nicer you'll more likely to get a greeting or assistance. If you go in all raggity people won't give you a second look
The Beverly Center was never a very busy mall like Century City or Westside Pavillion malls, not even during the 80s/90s. Their appeal has always been more to high end shoppers and not the hang-out crowd. It aligns itself with Rodeo Drive more than a typical family mall.
except rodeo drive has so many more people than this one.
This mall was so awesome in the 90s. Hard Rock Cafe and PF Chang’s were on the street level. It’s still nice in there but it’s at 60% occupancy.
I dont know how it was in the 90's so good to know.
if you didnt see it yet watch giv's vid from some days ago in which he gose to and shows the many beverly hills store buildings closed and empty.... giv to me showed a good amount of transparency along with honesty in that one.... and too he dose not disapoint by making the vid lie only 4,5,6,7,8 mins.... that one i pretty sure was a bit over 23 mins
check it out if didnt see
@@adamgriffith6750 Oh no, I watched it when it came out. I was in shock. I thought Beverly Hills stores in the next blocks of Rodeo Dr were like Teflon from slow business. Got that wrong.
And the Grand Lux cafe those were the days
@@adamgriffith6750 Beverly Hills stores are also struggling especially due to pandemic and lootings. They used to have Anthropologie, Williams Sonoma, victorias secret, even Marimekko, and more then all those are gone. even eating at the restaurant patio nowadays are not safe so rarely go there anymore.

I always forget where I park. Thank u for the photo idea. I never thought about it!

Wow! I haven’t set foot inside the Beverly Center since 2005-2006.

Enjoy. Thanks again.

It’s not just malls there that are dying off, they are dying off everywhere. 😢
dubai mall is not dying off your an idiot for that comment
I go between being angry and mourning b/c of what is happening to our country and what the Biden admin. is doing to it. They're traitors.
It's all part of the plan
South coast Plaza is still flourishing
Why risk your life going to the mall. Flash mobs, knock out games, armed robberies, follow home robberies, car jackings and then called a waycist for pointing out whos doing it.
When I first watched this video, was unable to comment, not so good at tech....but I now have the chance, and I wanted to let you know how sweet this video was. The bliss you had out shopping, and the fun just going around I the chairs....even your comment of how it gave you a happy feeling....thank you for Sharing.🥰
Thank you for taking us to the Beverly Mall. I live in Ohio along the Ohio River. It's very primitive here. I live about an hour and a half away from a Mall.
I love seeing places that I'll never be able to visit in person.
Thank you again

nice and cozy room.. i love that wide wall print giving a sense of space.
Everything is hell and garbage now! I'm 51 and glad I experienced the 70s to 90s
Crazy, i would never wait for entry to spend my money, instead i will buy it online.
@@sophist1cated Lines to control how many go into a store is liberal logic in California. When you get 30+ people descending into a store to rob it, no line is going to stop them.
@@erikh9991Under those circumstances it makes sense.

When I lived in LA 2000-2001 I loved this mall. When I came back in 2016 I was shocked to see how much LA had deteiorated. The De AMO Mall in Torrance had a store selling second hand dvds and books.
Got my cell phone there. It was so deadddd
It's very nice..😁🥰❤.We lived in West Hollywood when My Daughter was little..1990 to be exact..She's 34 now..and went to The Beverly Center Mall all the time when Her Dad was at work...Lots of Great memories 😁❤🥰😁
You are a true Angelino! Thanks for sharing all the spots I've too, but havent in a while!
Mike they remodeled that entire mall about 7 years ago and all those stores are new. That’s why you don’t remember them because those stores were not there nor was the mall constructed like it is now. It’s pretty much a new mall since you were last there 17 years ago.
Been there in 2019. It was a lot quieter when I visited in December. And there was a Ferrari store.
You are awesome GIV… hello from London. Thanks for all your content 🙌🏻
No food court is a no go for me. Here in Prague when I go to the Palladium or another mall the first thing I do is get a beer and a snack to help me get through shopping.
You mean Prague back in eastern Europe.???

Lol food halls hit different from food courts.
That three picture portrait of LA from that new bridge goes hard.💯💯💯💯😎🔥
Another great video, keep it real👍🏼.
Many thanks from Ireland🇮🇪
I once saw a sketch of that intersection, Beverly and San Vicente from the year 1940. It showed a billboard advertising Whisky, and, get this: an oil derrick!
This oil well is still pumping oil and is hidden below the mall. The book containing the drawing, "Nuestra Pueblo" copywrite 1940.
Wowwww 😮
this is a high end mall they do very well now compared to budget malls
Your place is great 🎉❤ Plus that mall be shiney ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
I moved away from LA in 1996, so I haven't been to this mall for ages. It was a favorite spot for me to window shop and go see indie films at the movie theater. Given how malls are dying off, nice to see this place is still doing well.
Thank you for sharing very expensive stuff but nice just to see it.

I remember waking up early on multiple Saturday mornings, driving to the Beverly Center or the West Side Pavilion, getting my chocolates and coffee / espresso and settling in for a good foreign film.... Those days are gone.
I've been visiting Cedars more recently-a hazard which comes with age.
watching from osaka japan. thnx for the memories of the beverly center. used to live out there back in the 90s - mid 20s.
I lived there in the 80s. It is a beautiful mall.

Doesn't LA county have a high sales tax? You should go to Ontario Mills or Victoria Gardens in San Bernardino county. They're always packed.
A friend of mine would drive to Orange County to avoid paying high sales tax. Burbank in La is the worst. They charge, 3 taxes, County, Local, and State.

For me these days I’d rather drive a little further and go to Glendale Galleria or Culver City mall where there is free parking, a food court, a gym, more stores for the working class people and feels a little safer.
safer? is beverly hills unsafe?
@@thedeadbaby some parts of it. Where the Beverly Center is can be a little unsafe. A lot of sketchy individuals hang around across the street by the Beverly Connection and the gas station next to it.
Yes
@@JoshuaAndrewMusic There seems to be a lot more homeless people around santa monica blvd in Century City than in beverly hills. I see a homeless woman sleeping on the bus stop bench by the golf course every time I pass by and more going west. I don't see this in beverly hills downtown.

I haven't been to Beverly Center since 2004! I went to some Chinese restaurant that was very good, can't remember the name. The mall didn't feel particularly lively back then either. In the 80s and 90s it was hopping. I was a west side kid, so I hung out mainly in Westwood or Santa Monica's Promenade. I would rarely go to the Beverly Center. I only went there when I hung out with friends who lived in that area of Beverly Hills and Fairfax, Hollywood.

LA as a whole is slipping into ruins. From the Santa Monica Prominade, to downtown LA, to Long Beach, to Beverly Hills. Closed down business's everywhere. Homeless everywhere. Graffiti and trash everywhere. LA is not what it was 5, 6, or 7 years ago. It's getting out of hand how far it's gotten.
Such BS, I guess you do not travel very much? Malls across the US have been closing. Most people now shop online. But there are also plenty of malls that are doing well. Most people prefer open air malls. Santa Monica Promenade, enclosed mall, Century City after it was renovated, open air and doing fine. The Grove, open air and doing fine.
It's still one of the highest grossing malls per sq feet for lux retailers. It's far from dead and also in LA not Beverly Hills.
I remember Del Almo mall in the 80’s was packed to the brim
