Atotonilco is a Chicago institution! It's a classic no doubt about that! Great Food! I also recommend the Al Pastor which is delicious but don't overlook there tortas de milanesa de res! Fantastic!!
I don't blame him lol... I have White castles 2 nights ago and I literally just order a Goat torta + carrots and jalapenos from Taquerías Atotonilco. I pick it up in 10 minutes 💪🏽
Grew up in Chicago. And I could say it is my favorite place in the whole city for the tacos de al pastor. There licuados (milkshakes) are made fresh and are excellent! And the aqua de horchata is the best in the city too! Unlike no other. I highly recommend it.
I tried Atotonilco on 26th street , the one in pilsen and they are ok but The best Taqueria Atotonilco that has the best juiciest carne asada and the best milanesa torta is at Stone Park honestly. Check it out🌮🌮
@goodfella21f believe it or not traditional Gyro in Greece is pork. Not Lamb and beef like here in the states. So technically Al Pastor and traditional Gyros are almost the same except for some seasoning.
Not even close buddy... pastor is a Lebanese cooking method but Mexico makes it with pork peppers and achiote paste. It’s the same cooking style as far as the spit goes but not even close on both flavor and ingredients
Grew up going to the one in The Yards, so I think Atotonilco is the best of BOTY, more than Internacional, and more than the 26th location. I will say however, the chicken tacos at the 26th street location are better than any other place. I also lived in Mexico and know “what real tacos” are, unfortunately in the Chicago area, I have not found any place that has hit that mark, but Atotonilco definitely provides a delicious taco. It is just a matter of opinions and taste, no need to throw shade on some of these locations
ahhh ya me acorde!!! ahí es donde preparan tacos con lechuga y jalapeños. Nada que ver con los auténticos tacos mexicanos. Just saying. cada quien sus gustos.
Ana Rojo.
The real Mexican torta will never have sour cream on it, give that to a Mexican in Mexico and they’ll never be back to that venue. In Mexico we use mayonnaise, not sour cream!
I agree. Growing up eating mexican food in my home (parents from Guanajuato and Mexico City) we never put "crema" on anything. Puro chile. I'm 47 now...and there weren't as many Mexican food spots in the 70s and 80s. The jumbo burrito craze of the 90s blew up Mexican food (my opinion). So we ate what was available at home. Many times the stuff that's not found in more common menus. Enjoy your preference.
I’m Mexican, I’m from Chicago, I’ve been to little village hundreds of times. There’s definitely BETTER taquerias in the south side than this place. Didn’t like it at all!
C Iniguez I’m going to be honest... you are incorrect. The best taquerias are in little village because it’s all prepared by us Mexicans which makes it way more authentic.
Yesenia Murillo there are Mexicans all over this city lmao anything they make is pretty good. This taqueria is NOT good. Point blank. Want a good taqueria, go to la internacional IN THE SOUTH SIDE.🤯 Mexicans cook them and cook them good
C Iniguez I know there’s Mexicans all over.. I meant that Little village is kind of like a place where there is mostly more Mexicans. And I disagree, Atotonilco is very good. It’s owned by a family from Jalisco, and trust me. Food from Jalisco is VERY good.
I'm sorry but as 100% Mexican I am, I can say without a doubt that the taste of the atotonilco tacos is not 100% authentic, but it is very simple to deceive the gringos because they cannot notice that flavor
Atotonilco is a Chicago institution! It's a classic no doubt about that! Great Food!
I also recommend the Al Pastor which is delicious but don't overlook there tortas de milanesa de res! Fantastic!!
Born and raised in little village and this is my favorite taco joint of all time.
I got an Uncle, every time he visits Chicago from Mexico he just HAS to hit up Atotonilco and White Castle lol.
I don't blame him lol... I have White castles 2 nights ago and I literally just order a Goat torta + carrots and jalapenos from Taquerías Atotonilco. I pick it up in 10 minutes 💪🏽

That spinning meat is exactly like yeeros(gyro for some) here in Greece.
Alex Tsif it’s different flavor both amazing
@goodfella21f believe it or not traditional Gyro in Greece is pork. Not Lamb and beef like here in the states. So technically Al Pastor and traditional Gyros are almost the same except for some seasoning.

Only Mexican restaurant in Chicago that only hires waiters and not waitresses. Giving us men another win
I've been going this this restaurant since I was 12 when my husband makes me mad he takes me here cause he knows these are my absolute favorite 🙂

Henry Irisson tastes better with sour cream.
I'm first generation American and you give me anything with mayo I won't ever do business with you again
sorry avout your case. You’re not from here or from there.

There’s a small place around 47th and wolcott that I think has way better al pastor than Altoltonico.
