It was founded by Dutch settlers who called it after the Dutch city of Rotterdam, where many immigrants last stepped foot on European soil. The town has a boundary with Schenectady.

Once you passed the the last railroad overpass, you entered into Schenectady's "Bellevue" neighborhood. I wasn't born there, but that's where I grew up as a kid in the 1960's. Not much has changed in Bellevue since then, which is the way I like it.
