- On November 21, 2010, Lance Cpl. Kyle Carpenter threw his body on an enemy hand grenade to save a fellow Marine. The medical professionals that stood by him through his recovery talk about Carpenter's return from the brink.

I'm from the UK and I can safely say Kyle is my hero, so selfless. Unbelievable courage, grit and determination. An absolute accolade to the US. There should be more people in this world like him.

He's an AMAZING MAN!!! I'm a combat vet also and I'm thankful for him, his family and their sacrifices. When I retire I'm moving to South Carolina to be close to my kids and grandkids. I would love to meet this young man. True HERO!!

Having watched several videos about Kyle and his story, he exudes charm, caring, kindness, honor, respect. Hell, he is a total package of Man. Everything good. Kyle obviously had good parents who taught him well. It is amazing that Kyle holds no remorse and would do it again. This man deserves nothing but the best in everything. He gave his all and we, the United States needs to give him our all.

A big thank you not only to his medical team here in the States, but to the medical teams that first responded to Kyle Carpenter. His unit medics, and the trauma teams in country that kept him alive so he could get to Walter Reed. Thank you all for being there to take care of our soldiers.

What a brave selfless hero! I know that he did not go to be a hero but just trying to protect his "Band of brothers". I wish that every NFL football player could watch this video to understand what a selfless act he did. And for them to understand why the NFL fans are so upset about protesting the national anthem.
