For a non conformist that prefers the road less travelled, it was an easy choice.. it's inexpensive, it's capable, it's easy to service, just the facts ma'am, it's not a Triumph so it has it's detractors which makes it easy to identify with. Like the lyrics in the song went.. you and me against the herd, aka the world.. and to really piss the purists off, I bought a Himalayan with the money I saved by not buying a Triumph. Like a Honda rider once said about my Himmi.. WTF is that?!
      Exactly! 😃

It’s funny when I watched my first list of beginner bikes and decided on a Royal Enfield it directed me to your video. So your video had a big influence on my purchase. No regrets.

Thank you for such an informative video. What I loved about it is you told a full and complete story. Also, your camera work was great. I am looking to purchase a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, after seeing the blue with the tank knee guards, I think I'm going to look very hard at the color blue. It's beautiful keep making great videos my friend.

Great video. Don't sweat reading off your script, you're sharing a lot of information, it's normal. If you don't think you'll ever use your Royal Enfield warranty, it's probably because you're barely riding it lol. I think you said 1,000 miles in a year? That's like 2-3 weeks of riding for many. Warranty issues come up a lot on these bikes. Keep up the great work.

Hu Alex. I'm 73, 165 cm, 66 kg. Been riding since 1969. I also rode the older RE 350 kick start, decompressir, left side brake, neutral lever model in the early years. I had an Interceptor for 3 years and loved it. Lightened it with after market silencers and chanded the air filter. Rose it on tarmac and off tarmac. Let it go only because of the weight and high centre of gravity. It was always comforting to ride, except in dense traffic conditions in Mumbai. Enjoy your time with the Int. Shashi Menon.

Great video! I’m 74, been riding all my life. It’s time for me to get something lower and the 30/31” seat height looks appealing. It’s killing me to give up my BMW 1200GS and Husqvarna 701 but I have to face reality.

Great Interceptor 650 content, and I share your motorcycling philosophies ... However, a couple nitpicks about your review. The break-in period isn't 300 miles, it's 2,000km and this is detailed in your owners manual on page 51 (I think, or some page near that). 300 miles is the first service, the main purpose of which is to change the dirty oil from all the post-manufacture metal dust / shavings. The actual engine break-in is primarily related to the seating of the pistons, and as you'll see in your owners manual there's speed/rev limits they want you to follow until you reach 2,000km.
Second, build quality. I don't agree with your use of the term here, because what you seem to be actually referring to is fit & finish. Like the cockpit gear being plastic for example. This is more to do with spec rather than build quality. You can build a low spec bike to high quality, and a high spec bike to low quality. Imo Royal Enfield made the right choice to use less expensive components for some fit & finish features because [a] these tend to be the things that people customise regardless of the OEM quality [b] they are still built solidly, so they are very functional and not something that impedes on the comfort or safety of the ride in any way [c] and aesthetically they are not an eye sore, they are not something you notice at a glance or even a good look. You basically have to be in the mindset of looking for 'flaws' to go 'well, this could be better' etc.
I think Royal Enfield knocked it out of the park with the Interceptor 650, it's a stone cold classic, and as a 'forever bike' I like that I can update the fit & finish to my taste, and make other adjustments as desires crop up.
Anyway, sorry for being nit picky because I really do enjoy your Interceptor 650 content and I wish more people shared your motorcycling philosophies.

Thank you for the compliment and the well thought out comment.
It is important to know the difference between the first service and the break in period, which I overlooked when writing. So I appreciate the correction.
I completely agree with the points you’ve made regarding the ‘build quality’. It was difficult to write an unbiased review and come up with a list of negative things to say about the bike, you really have to nitpick the little details. It’s a terrific piece of machinery and I wish more people would appreciate it for what it is.
      Cheers and Ride Safe!

Alex, excellent video! dude. I am picking up a GT650 tomorrow morning. Its not my first ride, but the others didn't last or where borrowed during a short time, 30 years ago. My mom actually put me on my first motorcycle in 1976? it looked just like the Royal Enfield Interceptor. A dirtbike, with a metal gas tank. Rough as hell.
Royal Enfield should take note of your video. I know they are very proud of their products, which they should be. I am 51, starting my next journey tomorrow!

Don't replace the braking system, the ByBre brakes work just fine - replace the crappy master cylinder (with a Magura). It's a much cheaper option and makes a really big difference to the brake feel.
The Domino race throttle is a fun addition. And changing the exhaust system will save some serious weight.

What made me buy an Interceptor 650 was the price, found one used for 5000€ with only 3000km on the clock. I've slipped on wet road during my test ride and crashed it, had it repaired, bought it and now I'm trying to prepare for the next spring by: seeking out better tires, engine guards, fixing the newly found electrical issue where the engine cuts out randomly.
The 4h ride to bring it home was nervewracking, I know it's me but the stock tires really don't feel good. My Brixton Cromwell, a very cheap 125cc bike, has better tires and better brakes than the Interceptor.
With the costs of the repair and upgrades I should still come out cheaper than buying a comparable bike from other brands. Currently I am frustrated with it, but that's the beginning of being a real motorcyclist.

    • @iamalexsun
      @iamalexsun  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thank you for sharing! That’s a wild ride! Glad you didn’t get hurt. The stock tires aren’t made for serious riding, you’ve made the right choice to replace them. As for the engine/electrical issue, I would recommend inspecting and cleaning the relays because they’re often slathered with way too much grease and sometimes can cause electrical issues as you described. I made a video a while back regarding the relays, maybe it could help. Best of luck with your Interceptor, please keep us updated! Ride Safe!

    Eer,
    The Interceptor 650
    Doesn't weigh 500 LBs ?
    It weighs 480 LBs
And a lot less than that,
When you take off the standard Silencer's , and put different ones on,
I've got a DNA Air Filter fitted with reverse cone megas fitted,
And a 16 tooth cog conversion,
I do all my own Servicing,
Mine has touched over 105 MPH
People talk about this bike, like it's under powered,
    It's not,
I've been riding motorcycles for 50 years, I also own a Royal Enfield Hunter 350
    Another great bike 👍
    Cheers Paul Foster

20 LBs is an awful lot of weight to a bike like this,
He should get his facts correct,
It could put a potential buyer of this bike off telling folks that it weighs 500 LBs,
Someone might even, Heaven forbid 🤣
      Buy a Triumph LOL 😅
