    I'm really surprised that Messicks doesn't have their people taking it apart to see what happened. Only 450 bales after you spent $21k for an overhaul, that's a problem they should get on top of.

      Probably high school kids doing the work. All our stealerships down here... ahem, "dealerships", can't keep good help anymore, because they're not willing to pay a decent wage. SO, they hire a bunch of kids straight out of high school or tech school to turn wrenches for them, but they don't know "come here" from "sic 'em"... They basically keep one or two "gray hairs" or "gurus" on the payroll (and actually give them enough pay to keep them from going elsewhere or retiring or whatever) and they basically just go around the shop from work station to work station telling the kids what to do and figuring out what's wrong, telling the kids what tests to do or what procedure to do next, etc. Even the auto dealers are doing the same thing in their shops now...
      Of course, the kids get some experience and about the time they start figuring out actually what the h3ll they're doing, they quit and find a better job because the stealership won't give them a decent pay raise commensurate with their experience-- they can find a better paying job, so they're off (which is only fair-- gotta look out for number one, not some A-holes that just want cheap labor). So, they just hire another know-nothing kid to take their place.
      When I was still farming cotton back in 03, the local Deere dealership had an ace cotton picker mechanic that had actually worked with my Dad when he worked for Deere back in the early 70's... so he's been around long enough he *knows* his stuff. They got PO'd because he was running a cotton picker salvage and secondhand parts operation and picker repair shop out at his farm on the nights/weekends and during the off-season. They got high handed with him and told him he could either work for them or give up his "extracurricular activities" in his own shop. He told them to EFF OFF. Well, didn't take them long to realize their mistake... he had more business than he could handle out at his shop, and the Deere dealer's picker repair business dried up, because the know-nothing kids couldn't fix anything, took 5X longer to do the work without someone who knew the shortcuts telling them how to do it, and half of what they did was wrong or messed up and PO'd the farmers paying the big repair bills, so they didn't make that mistake of taking their picker to the stealership twice... They came back to him hat-in-hand begging him to come back to work for them. He agreed but basically he wrote his own ticket-- meaning he came back to work for them on his OWN terms and got a fat pay increase and pretty much named his own hours... pretty sweet deal for him!
      Later! OL J R :)

  • @kennycraze
    @kennycraze 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Problem may not have been caused by Messick's. Large quantities of wet hay can put enormous strains on equipment. The steel side plates do not have to flex that much in this case, to allow those times bars to jump the shallow tracks they run in.

    That's a very complex pre stuffer system on the Krone, I really wouldn't expect those tine bars to be able to flex enough to be able to come out of the cam track. Does the Krone have automatic pickup and pre stuffer overload protection? Nice vid Wes

    Damn Wes,
    You need another vacation after all that..
    I hope ya figured out the bailer because you shouldn't have any issues at all with the way you maintain your equipment. You got to be definitely in the top 1% of people who actually do preventative maintenance on their equipment. Good luck this season Wes! I can't wait for the ride, my only regret is I can't be there to lend a helping hand. If I could I would be there doing anything to help, including the shit jobs. Personally I don't mind them because no matter what ....the shit jobs have to be done in order for the entire operation to be successful. if no one is willing to do the hard unpleasant jobs the whole kingdom collapses. 😉

    Great video. How do you get the rest of the bars out with the plunger closing? I assume you have to disengage on the small gearbox somewhere? We have the same issue, turned out there was dirt stuck in the grease chamber of the bracket so the autogrease didnt get to some of the bearings. We also had broken grease fittings inside probably happened after the bearings broke and shaked the whole unit. Its the second time this happened, about 3000 bales appart..

    hi wes, at 14:59, when you were saying that your not sure if the nut should be tight, the spacing between the 2 pieces seems like it is at a angle. it looks pulled in where the bolt and nut is. it could be just the camera angle, but it does look like it is crooked

    • @wilbertbirdner1303
      @wilbertbirdner1303 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah i saw that too. and it looks like a nyloc nut, so probably could be left a little loose and not move, so maybe that part is meant to be kind of loose? it's not the part that the actual bearing is attached to either, right?

    Get yourself one of those tiny 12V impact guns that run 1/4" adapter for sockets. All those tedious bolts will just fly on and off. A ratchet for loosening those stuck, but the impact will do 95% with no problems.

    Lock out, block out!! We would be fired instantly for climbing into machinery like that. It's a pain in the ass sometimes to lock and block machinery for safety sake but it could save life and limb. But then again, on the farm there is always some type of " Dangerous Dan construction" going on. You just try to be as safe as possible. So be careful and be safe.

    Onelonelyfarmer I've got what may be a dumb question:
    What's the big difference in the powered hay rakes and the ones like you use?
    I grew up around the 6 wheels like you use, but see these big 2 and 4 wheel powered rigs, especially in the European crowd. Is it just because they're raking heavier material for silage?
    I've run tedders, rakes, can pulled a little square baler before, just never seen the powered rakes.

    I agree with Carl, if they didn't have the knowledge to put the panel back on correctly, did they have the knowledge to fix the baler correctly! Or, did they have an attitude when they were fixing it. I remember I had an oil change on a GM pickup, they drained the transmission fluid and Refilled the engine oil. 0 qts. in transmission and 10 qts. Engine oil. There excuse: A tech 1 worked on it.

      I knew a guy who had owned a bicycle shop for 50 years. He had a jar kinda like a swear jar. Every time a mechanic forgot to put back the valve cap on a customers bike he had to put 5 bux in the jar. The theory was if you missed the valve cap, what else did you miss???? Eventually, the fund would go to a staff bbq with bottomless beer.
      When he opened the shop it was 25 cents.....

    Hi wes just a quick question if you have just payed out to have that serviced by your dealer and u have just hopefully just sorted the problem. But now if something else gose wrong and u didn't let your dealer ship come out to look at it before you sorted it will that not cors problems. I'm not saying that u shouldn't have done it we all have done things like that. But I would off thort u would off had them come out first to really c what was going on with the baler first. I no we don't like the down time and way the weather is at moment you got to push on. And I no u can do all your own repairs we have to save money on what ever gose wrong. But if that has just bin serviced I would off got them out to look at it first. But I don't no what you're set up is with your dealer so I carnt say. Anything. But the price off that bit off kit is a lot off money. So that's only reason I'm asking this if it's bin put in to the shop to be sorted out ready for u to hich up and go. I just think that's wrong. All the best from Andy in UK

    We had one of the first NH575 conventional balers to come over from the U.S rather than from Belgium years ago (switched to rounds in 2001) and that was a Friday afternoon job. It probably would only do 2k or 3k bales before smashing a needle. We had trouble with the knotters trouble with the ram trouble with the feeder found out the trouble with the needles was that they hadn't bothered connecting the safety device to stop the needles getting it by the ram.

      Time for a spelling class for you.

      And even then, if it were spelled correctly for the context, this statement would still be false since the baler is currently working.

      That is your opinion, and God help me if I wouldn't die for your right to express it. I think it's done pretty well for Wes though, in the material he works it in.

      on flat ground it would perfectly pull and power that baler, however when the terrain is pointing to the sun it wouldnt be able to.

    I know its late, but come on, jumping into the most dangerous 'pit' on the baler with the engine running ???? What if a valve decided to play up and the oil pump started to run some; far from inconceivable. But I know you were in the moment. Still I cringe when people take chances with heavy machinery; I grew up on a farm also and I know about 'farm accidents', farms have dangerous machinery and one needs to be vigilant and preferably not take chances. Just saying as I would hate to hear you got clobbered by mistake !!!!
