❣Here is the poem written in German on Jimin’s body translated:
    Widening Circles
    Written by Rainer Maria Rilke
    Germany (1875 - 1926) Timeline
Translated and read by Joanna Macy
    Listen
I live my life in widening circles
that reach out across the world.
I may not complete this last one
but I give myself to it.
I circle around God, around the primordial tower.
I’ve been circling for thousands of years
    and I still don’t know: am I a falcon,
a storm, or a great song?

Jimin is actually considered the top #1 dancer in Kpop, winning the prestigious title of Best Dancer 4 years in a row, as well as the title of King of Kpop!

Watching analysis of actual dancers is really so satisfying 😭 YOU GET IT. Like people are hating because of the auto tune and dragging Jimin as if he can't sing and didn't show in the same song how amazing his normal voice is. The auto tune was obviously for stylistic choice. And yeah, liking or not liking it is up to anyone. But they can just move on instead of harassing people who actually like the effect of it in the whole vibe of the song as if we will change our mind about it.
Anyway, you are right. The whole video you can feel how Jimin must have felt so suffocated. The first part where everyone is dancing in unity in square formation (I'm not a dancer, idk technical terms) while Jimin is prowling around in the middle then finally getting to be outside of it then that spiral formation is such powerful imagery. Fans aren't sure if it's spiral representing him mentally spiraling, or if it's like a caterpillar transforming into a cocoon until he breaks as a butterfly, or as a maze he was trapped in and the narrower it gets in the center. But it does convey the message that he's not in good place and he wants to break free.
The choreography is clearer with the dance practice, you should watch it too. Even with the whole gym being lit up where they filmed the practice, it didn't take away that effect of dark desperation. The dance crew and Jimin really did amazing job.
And you will see clearly there how many times Jimin tried to break free only to be pushed back, and he didn't even fight much about it, he just goes along with it. Then that final scene of them grabbing at him then being lifted up only to be brought down again as if everyone wants a piece of him and everything collapses but he still persevered and standing up like a phoenix amidst the burnt ashes. It's so good.
I hope to see what your take about it because tbh so many scenes can be interpreted in different ways and i love watching analysis of people who knows what they're talking about. Please react to the dance practice video. Thank you so much.

Loved your comments. I also love when dancers react to Jimin's performances.
      They can do GET IT!
I know Jimin can sing and was not a fan of them altering his vocals. After watching this so many times, I feel like the altered vocals give a compressed feeling, then by the 2nd half, Jimin's real vocals emerge as he is set free. I could be 100% wrong but it's all just theories till Jimin tells us.
Am so proud and happy for Jimin and can't wait for his album 💜 💜💜

@@amytakiguchi4390 Really? I didn't get that feeling because from the first verse i understood Jimin is really going to go experimental. And the thing is, everything about this song is very deliberate. So pdogg probably sat him down and asked "i want to auto tune this part because it can give this kind of chaotic vibe more" and Jimin's probably like "yeah, crank it up more" 😭 He coined himself as Tailor of Chaos. he knows how his haters will use this against him, especially with how hate campaign going against him amped up after his album drop announcement (the irony of his haters loudly dragging him about the song that includes them as part of the "opps" lmao) but he obviously doesn't care. Tbh the "controversy" just made this song more famous 😂

Here's info that some still aren't aware of:
❣JIMIN, born October 13, 1995, at age 11, started studying, performing, & competing (winning every competition), in hip hop, popping (excelled), & street dancing, while attending the renowned Just Dance Academy in Busan where he's from! He was so good that an instructor even had the high tuition fee waived at one point! This was while also attending middle school, where he loved sports, being quite athletic, joined the football team, excellent at track, great at basketball, & billiards! Jimin also, all throughout his schooling, was known as a top scholar, achieving perfect scores, especially in math & science which just always came easy to him! Jimin was even class president for 9 yrs in a row! Jimin, all throughout his schooling, was also quite good in art class, as well as calligraphy.
Jimin, then also took up contemporary dance. The media, after seeing a performance of Jimin's performing at a huge Busan Festival Event, called Jimin "The rising star of Busan"!! JIMIN also studied ballet & traditional Korean dance while attending Busan High School of the Arts. Jimin still went to Just Dance Academy to take hip hop classes whenever he could because his first love has always been hip hop, even though he was now majoring in contemporary! JIMIN even had an offer to dance overseas, but declined because he also wanted to become a singer since the 2nd grade, to the dismay of one of his dance instructors who said "The world of dance was going to lose a great artist"!!
So Jimin then went and auditioned for BigHit Entertainment, (company BTS is signed with), being the very last member to join, being a trainee for only a few months (which is unheard of for most Kpop idols), as opposed to the 2-3 yrs of being a trainee the other members had! But Jimin was so good that he was assigned the official title of one of the two Main Dancers, as well as Lead Vocalist. Jimin was even assigned most of the high notes since the very beginning, because even without all that training in the beginning, he was that good, a natural born singer who, just like his dancing makes you feel every emotion and feeling he's trying to convey!
JIMIN, also, for 8 yrs, since a quite young boy, trained in various forms (4), of martial arts: Taekwondo (Blackbelt), Hapkido, Kumdo (Korean form of Kendo), & Chinese martial arts. He even won a scholarship, the only student to do so, to study more extensively in China for awhile! All the martial arts training has given JIMIN his phenomenal inner core strength, as well as his amazing flexibility, which has enabled Jimin to achieve all those breathtakingly spectacular gravity defying dance moves! JIMIN has found a way to incorporate all his various dance disciplines, as well as his extensive training in martial arts into his unique, ever so special, outstandingly amazing dancing abilities!!
JIMIN, has been called 'Stage Commander', known for his amazing, so mesmerizing stage presence. Each dance move is executed flawlessly, his extensions all the way to the fingertips, his lines so clean, his fluidity, his poise & elegance, his ever so graceful moves, but yet, sharp, quick & deliberate when required! He focuses on every detail! Known for his work ethics and being a perfectionist to a fault, spending hours in the practice room, will study every move, even focusing on hands to fingertips. Even his facial expressions, or the look in his eyes! Every single detail he focuses on. Jimin tends to take in the music and interprets all the emotion & feelings, whatever it's trying to convey through his body movements as well as his vocals.
JIMIN has now won the prestigious titles for 4 yrs in a row, for both KING OF KPOP, as well as also winning BEST TOP #1 DANCER IN KPOP, also 4 yrs in a row!! Jimin is also referred to as "Rookie's Bible" because all rookie idols, try to emulate & study every move he makes, trying to learn from him! Aside from all that Jimin has won other countless award, broken many records. His 7 solos: ‘Lie’, ‘Serendipity’, ‘Filter’, ‘Promise’, ‘Christmas Tree’, including collabs: Jimin's OST ‘With You’, as well as collab w/Taeyang ‘Vibe’, have broken charting records worldwide, as well as being top seller, plus most listened to. Also breaking records for being #1 branding marketing idol, every single month for now, for over 3 yrs, a feat never achieved before, and still ongoing! The term the "Jimin Effect" is now in the Urban Dictionary! So much more as well but will stop here.

His singing voice is very unique, He is a science and math major so he will put mathematics and science and shapes in his music and videos. Please support him because he is truly an artist not just a musician. He used autotune for a distortion to convey the feelings he is struggling with.

Jimin is the king of kpop and father of kpop!! This man have A LOT of TALENTS and he is very VERSATILE and he is the lead vocalist and the main dancer of bts!! He learned alot of dance styles like hiphop, contemporary dance, ballet, isolation, popping, traditional dance, etc. and he learned various types of martial arts and he is blackbelt in taekowndo. He is known and crowned as the best dancer for 4 years as well as being king of kpop for 4years. He is the most famous with locals and kpopers. His songs are different from each other and has massages in it + he expresses the lyrics through his dance and that what makes his dance more beautiful. He is powerful dancer and singer and always takes the hardest parts in bts songs whether vocally with high notes or as choreography doing what is difficult to make the performance stands out more. I hope u check him out! He is the it boy and kpop ender ❤❤❤🔥🔥

So I am a BTS fan, but not so much a fan of just KPOP. I love music and substance in the lyricism, as well as amazing interpretive dance, which BTS does a lot of. They are amazing at telling stories through their dance. This is the music video, and JIMIN has a dance practice as well. I believe the dancers in this are with BIg Hit Music or HYBE Labels, and they are JIMIN's backup dancers. I know who they work with in America, but I'm not familiar with these dancers yet. This is JIMIN's solo debut song. Some people don't like the autotune, or they see it for what it is, an artistic choice for the interpretation and feeling of the music video and the song itself. If you notice, those specific vocal enhancements used were for the parts where he had an agressive lyric or message, or right at the end when he was getting ready to be set free.

❣I’m just so beyond excited! Jimin’s “Set Me Free Pt.2’, it’s everything & more then I could hope for, Jimin’s amazing artistry, his so beyond spectacular,, so mesmerizing, phenomenal performance! The song, Jimin’s vocals, his dancing, the amazing choreography, also the amazing backup dancers, the lyrics he wrote, the music he composed as well as being involved in the production! Jimin was hands on, involved with every facet! No wonder the in-house legendary producer for BigHit Pdogg, who worked with Jimin throughout the whole album, stated that “in 2023 K-pop will be ended by Park Jimin”! Seeing this makes me that much more excited, waiting in anticipation for release of the full album, Jimin’s “FACE” on March 24, along with his other, main song ‘Like Crazy’ MV. Though Jimin’s song ‘Set Me Free Pt.2’, blew me away , meeting all my expectations & then some, I was also not totally surprised, because indeed Jimin is now ‘set free’ from the confines of being part of a group, to now be able to open up full throttle and ‘finally’ be able to release all that he held back for so many yrs! Jimin has been involved in every facet of creating this album! Hands on all the way, perfectionist that he is, including writing lyrics, composing, as well as being heavily involved in production! Jimin’s true, real, inner self will be finally seen in all its raw, authentic, amazing, heartfelt, passionate, emotional, sincere glory! This is aside from Jimin’s full range, hardly ever being shown, aside from high notes, but being finally able to show his full registry, mid range as well as lower registry as well! I’ve always been so frustrated not being able to see as well as hear Jimin’s full capacity of talent. So often not being fully taken advantage of, but that comes with being part of a group, that has every single member having so much talent that it’s been so limiting for Jimin, especially him being so selfless, making a point of having others shine before himself. Now the spotlight will be just on him! Though we’ve seen Jimin’s amazingly spectacular, so mesmerizingly outstanding solo performances before. But now, as Jimin himself, mentioned, he’ll indeed be showing the depth of his raw inner self! In an interview Jimin explained: "I tried to express the grand scale of the song and [the ideas of] determination, passion, and overcoming. “Set me free” means setting myself free, so I thought it was important that I be the one to set myself free - not someone else. In the end, I’m the one who has to set myself free. I would say the song has the energy of a light in the darkness. I wanted to express that kind of picture everyone has in their head - a ray of light coming into the darkness is the only thing you can see. If I had to say specific colors, I’d say black and white."

It's The Lab (edit: saw this in an article but it might actually be in-house dancers) and Sienna Lalau was on the choreography team! The callbacks to On were deliberate. And BTS as a whole never call them "background dancers," just dancers. They've talked about that a lot, and I love seeing The Lab working with them again, because there's just so much mutual respect there.
All the dancers keep saying "are you sure this isn't a performance video?" and... I mean yes it pretty much is. I think it's the right approach for this song. 😂
I could talk about this choreography forever. The use of the surrounding dancers is so fascinating! There's so much story told through movement. I love how often he's slower and subtler but still draws the eye. So cool.
The spiral imagery is referenced in the poem on his chest, but definitely open to interpretation. Overall the performance feels intrinsic to the song - probably because Jimin is a dancer and composed the song intending to tell part of the story through dance.
This is a massive vocal departure for Jimin. If you did sink into the vocals, he's using effects, including autotune, to create a dialogue with himself and at least in some parts to create discomfort. But he's also using his voice differently behind the effects. It's very personal, and like you said, not meant to be a club anthem.
Thank you for your reaction! I learn a lot from professionals who can analyze the things I can't 😊

In his solo album 'FACE', Jimin honestly expressed the various emotions he felt during the COVID-19 pandemic for about two years. 'FACE' contains the story of facing yourself and preparing for a new beginning as an artist. 'Set Me Free Pt.2', which will be released in advance, is a song in the hip-hop genre, containing a determined will to get rid of various emotions such as pain, sadness and emptiness and move forward freely. From serious lyrics and melodies to Jimin's RAP, there are so many points of appreciation." Jimin is definitely breaking free from the confines of his own mind... his insecurities... .being okay with all sides of him... scene at the end, Jimin being lifted up looked so familiar. It's really reminiscent of John Constantine's "visit" to hell to find out if the twin sister was really there. That scene is truly epic, all those demons trying to pull him back To this day, my favorite movie that I keep watching every few years and still discovering new things. In Jimin's case, it now feels like instead of pulling him down, his demons are lifting him up. What's that saying : if you can't fight your demons, make friends with them? I think that's why he used his full voice in this song, and that's why we are all shocked, we were waiting for Jimin's sweet voice and him told us to go away with full voice and all the haters! He's a man he chooses to be, not one we decide. I'm really glad he slapped many in the face!! I love you jiminshii!!!! It really kind of is a performance video but there is a video of the dance practice as well that you should react to because you can see more of it without the edits.
The spiral the dancers create represents The golden spiral which is a pattern created based on the concept of the golden ratio-a universal law that represents the “ideal” in all forms of life and matter. In fact, it’s often cited as an example of the connection between the laws of mathematics and the structure of living things. The more we understand the math behind the symbol, the more we’ll appreciate its appearances in nature and arts.
As another army pointed out the golden ratio appears off and on butterflies and as he breaks out of that spiral he sings the lyrics "Fly away, butterfly".

I loved your in depth analysis and you explained your music preferences really well without insulting the stylistic choices.

I don't know who these dancers are, I do not recognise them as BTS normal dancers, but the choreographer is Sienna Lalau and I think she and the Lab will perform it with Jimin when he is on Jimmy Fallon later this week, 3/23 and 3/24 if he performs this then, I hope he does. I know he will perform his main track 'Like Crazy' that drops on friday with his album FACE.

Not sure about the dancers but Sienna is the choreographer! She is amazing and part of The Lab which perform whenever BTS comes to the states!

The dancers are mostly from Ten, which is both a casting agency for dancers and a whole dance studio in South Korea. They've been working with BTS since at least 2020

dancers are from The Lab and the choreo is Sienna Lalau (she was involved in Kinetic Manifesto and PTD) Sienna was born in Waipahu, Oahu, Hawaii and moved to LA when she was 16. I believe she will be 23 this year.

I'm not sure who each of the dancers are individually, but I recognize a few from previous BTS performances, so I think they work for HYBE. I believe one of them is actually one of the performance directors at HYBE.
I think the dance may have been choreographed by Sienna Lalau, who has worked with BTS before on ON and Dynamite. Her group, The LAB, has also performed with BTS several times, like when they've toured in the US. Jimin is set to perform on Jimmy Fallon on the 24th and I have a feeling that they'll be the ones performing with him instead of the dancers in the MV.
I hope you get to watch the Dance Practice because it's so cool getting to see the whole thing more clearly!

Chris, you said something about you knowing what Jimin’s voice looks like without vocal manipulations as though there are none of his own vocals here; so if I DID hear you correctly, I just want to clarify that Jimin IS singing in most of this song. He uses auto tune for the ‘angry’ parts, but only starting from “I never stop”. The first 2 phrases are Jimin’s own voice, rap-singing in a very low register - reminiscent of his deep, growly vocals in some songs from the ‘baby’ BTS era; there may be a bit of his own vocal layering in that part, however. He doesn’t use, nor has he ever used, auto tune for his high notes - that’s all him!

Here is the poem that is on his chest, it is German. I live my life in growing circles which ring out over the things around me. Perhaps I'll never finish the last but that's what I'm going to try. I'm circling around God, around the ancient tower, and I've been circling for thousands of years; and I still don't know: an I a falcon, a storm or a great song.

The autotune here is used strategically to represent is inner self and inner turmoil. On TOP of the autotune, you hear Jimin singing lines in his own voice as well. It's the juxtaposition of the inner and outer... the darker side/thoughts and the hopeful. There is a dance practice video of this as well as a making-of for the MV.

Great reaction. Really appreciate the view point of a performer/dance, it was totally a performance.
