Alice hope your knees feel better, rest, stretch and ice. That was a steep down hill, and i could feel the pain from here. Be well. Stay warm.
I have an Osprey Rook 65. You need to tighten the straps off the back of the hip belt pouches and they should open easily
You have a very well thought out collection of gear, and I enjoyed this video. I would greatly enjoy an equally well considered video on WHY you hike, and your ideas or your principles or theories that guide your practice. These are basic, and the first step to happy hiking. You would do those who want to hike, but have not yet started, a great service by explaining your motivations. Thanks for the present video.
If you go to a osprey shop or dealer you can have the hip belt custom fitted to your body , unless they stopped it
Ben, All the best for the hike 😊 Also you are a pro TH-camr ! Can’t wait to follow your hiking trail here in TH-cam 🥳
Thanks so much Upasana, you're the best! Maybe next I'll hike the Western Ghats!
Try the Mystery Ranch 55 backpack instead. Solves your problem with the hip belt, among other advantages.
Ultra light usually means ultra uncomfortable 😅
I use the exos 48. I agree with what you said. Love the back, hate the hip belt pockets lol
Hopefully they'll fix those pockets in coming updates
Helpful info. Thanks
Have a great hike, good gear video too.
I was at ATC Kickoff on March 1st, one thing they stated was that all Ursacks must be hung as a regular bear bag would. You are not supposed to tie it to a tree and that's it. Looking forward to your future videos.
Thanks for letting me know! Guess I better bring some paracord to hang it or just save the weight and swap it for a bear bag. Hope your hike is going well!
Safe Travels Friend!
Loving my EE Quilt and Rain Jacket #notsponsorediswear
Well thought out gear list. Your big3 looks good. I've used an EE quilt and the Osprey Exos for a lot of years and they've been great. You might give commando a try when it warms up. Good luck!
Thanks!!
Best of luck. The footprint on that x mid looks pretty big. Up north anyway it can be tough to find a spot that big at some campsites. I have a big one man tent and I have problems sometimes at certain places. Your footprint is twice as big. And between thru hikers and regular backpackers it could be slim pickins when you roll into camp in the summer. Just be aware. I just got that flextail pump,I love it. My regular wide pad was 40-45 breaths. It’s nice when you get to camp and you don’t have to blow up a mattress. I am curious what you gear you end up with. I bet you drop a couple pounds. Have fun.
yeah definitely a huge footprint, I need to keep working on the skinny pitch. That flextail is a lung saver!
Interesting gear list. Have you done some shakedown hikes with your gear?
I've done shakedowns with most of the gear. The tent is newer and I'm still getting more comfortable getting the pitch done correctly, but Durston has some really helpful videos on that. On shorter trips I'll usually bring a camp chair (Helionox Zero) but I'm swapping in the sit pad to save a pound.
How long till the suspension in the pack needs to be replaced 🤔?
Best of luck with the hike! Do you mind sharing how tall you are and how well you fit into the XMid2 lengthwise? I am 6'0" and use a long pad and sleeping bag, so i often rub up against tent walls. Thanks!
Hey Thomcat, I'm really happy with the length of the Xmid I'm 6'1". Both the Xmid 2 and Xmid 2+ have a floor measures 90 inches long so it gives a good amount of buffer. If you're using the tent solo, you can sleep diagonal and follow the geometry of the floor and get even more room. They advertise that it can accommodate hikers up to 6'6". Hope that helps!!
You had me up until the deodorant. Talk about packing your fears... lol.
haha yeah, the deodorant is a choice I've been sweating about
Hiking shoes?
Altra Lone Peak 7s!
I have size size 12.5-EE width feet. Do the altar lone peak 7's have a wider toe box? I currently have pair of hola speed boat 5 model hiking shoes and I love how they feel on my feet.
I don't know how you came up with all of these ideas...could it have been from the thousands and thousands and thousands of other youtubers with virtually the same video and list of gear or? Anyways super proud of you Ben. Keep up the great work and remarkable / original content.
rekt... seems like he hasnt used any of it.
@@BeelzebudsI know eh...its like attack of the the clones with these hiking gear videos. This guy obviously has almost no experience and hes presenting himself like he found this stuff through years of hiking and not from watching a few clones...clowns? Hyper consumerism combined with narcissism.
📌 I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE SAY TO SPRAY/WATERPROOF THEIR SHOES AHEAD OF TIME ❤ DO YOU THINK THAT IS A GOOD IDEA
Cork ball... lmfao...
