I was wondering something; during the mid-2000’s, Spider-Man had a lot of different titles such as Sensational, Friendly Neighborhood, Spectacular, etc. What was the purpose of each one?
I remember a Wizard magazine interview with Bendis shortly after this came out, that face Carnage made when he killed Gwen was Peters. The way Bendis described it was as an eleventh hour art change, he thought it would be more of a gut punch if the face morphed into Peter and gave Gwen the impression it was him murdering her
Ultimate Carnage seamlessly blends like 3 pivotal character arcs without breaking a sweat. This is peak Bendis and I’m so happy this is how we’re starting the new year
The thing about all those early 2000s comic personalities. They started out as the kids doing it there own way and pushing old dinosuars that are stuck in the past. But now they themselves became said dinosaurs.
Anyone else want an 80s comedy about Dr. Connors and Ben Riley constantly having to sneak their deadly experiments underneath the nose of the Dean. I'm thinking weird science meets animal house
FUN FACT: the guy who fired Norman Osborne in Spider-Man (2002) was also in Batman & Robin as one of the rich men bidding on woman in the charity auction scene
Wow, The Death of Gwen Stacy, the origin of Carnage, The Clone Saga AND Spider-Man No More all in one story arc?!?! And it actually turned out pretty damn well. Bendis really was at his best at this time.
I spent the last few days reading USM and binging on those Back Issues episodes thinking "ah, the next one ain't coming before summer anyway..." and suddenly this? Thanks, Sal!
@@comicpop That show is not mentioned in this video; however, the timestamp is to the similar phrase "Peter v. Peter." This utterance is somewhat ironic, since the show itself _was_ mentioned in the suggested video "Ultimate Fakeout," in which you joke about being owned by Viacom.
Thank you guys so much for doing this series. I was born in 1998, so Ultimate Spider-Man was one of my first introductions to the character. Now, I didn’t read the books as a kid, but Ultimate Spider-Man was EVERYWHERE. I remember driving past a store and seeing an ad for the video game in the window, any time there were posters at the store, they were either from the first Raimi movie or Ultimate Spider-Man. Binders, notebooks, folders, they were all Ultimate Spider-Man. This WAS Spider-Man, and as an adult, I absolutely love this series.
The whole Spider-Man/Wolverine story is the lowest point of the comic by far, but it's totally worth reading solely for that panel of Peter cursing out the X-Men
Although given what the ultimate xmen were like, Peter was lucky that Jean didnt rewire his brain to only speak or.understand esperanta or to think he was a fish
I actually love how hilarious and fun the story is. The problem is that it comes right after what is possibly the bleakest arc in Ultimate Spider-Man. So having this ultra wacky story right after feels too out-of-place. What Bendis should have done was swap the Human Torch teamup and the Wolverine story around, to make the tone feel less jarring.
I love how real these issues are. Gwen fuckin dies like a normal person related to these events would. I always remember this as a pinnacle of nostalgia for me and it’s amazing
It's a good subversion from, "oh no, this chick lives with my boyfriend, this could be an issue" because in reality, he ain't the one who's getting the sexy eyes
Ended up sorta getting this in a Spider-Gwen story. AU Green Goblin(Gwen) went crazy after AU Spider-Man(Harry) died. Their support team(Peter and MJ)tried to help her but couldn’t find her. Spider-Gwen helps them figure out where she could’ve gone and MJ talks her down. According to the writer(and pretty clearly teased in the story)MJ and Gwen were together
I don't think that's a very good idea. It wouldn't create anything new other than another stupid love triangle. Another love triangle except this one appeals to coomers.
The thing about Ultimate Flash is that in the comics he was a nobody, a loser and remained that way, even Kong got away from him and became a sombody. But in the series, they showed him some love and made him a Web Warrior like in tbe original universe.
YES! YES! YES! YYYYYYEEEEESSSS! I FLIPPING LOOOOVVVVEEE BACK ISSUES! I LOVE ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN! I LOVE CARNAGE! YOU PUT THEM ALL TOGETHER AND YOU SHAKE THEM ALL ABOUT AND THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT!
Okay so this version of Carnage isn't a vampire, but is kinda like Frank from _Hellraiser_ - whatever the word for that is (Frank wasn't a Cenobite, he was just ... I don't know)
I wish we could have had a "move the car, George" moment with a random security guard from the industrial site. Security Guard 1: Hey.. is that Spider-Man throwing a body into the smoke stack? Security Guard 2: Yea, he comes here all the time.. Security Guard 1: Should we report it? Security Guard 2: Nah....... I don't want them to find the bodies I throw in there... Security Guard 1: *Turns in resignation*
That villain from the museum is Gladiator, Sal. The Daredevil villain. Thought it might be him, so I looked it up. I nominate myself for a No Prize! :p Love these. Looking forward to Hollywood. At least Gwen can go out on a high note in ComicPOP time! :) Happy New Year!
Sal! i'm already watching this a second time and because i'm at home and not work can pause to comment this, i can't remember which video it was but the last one where you did the crikey and Australian accent inspired me to improv at work a whole tale of australian jesus, who just needed a one more digeridoo to get across the great sea back to jerusalem and crikey the red sea isn't red that's false advertising! i called him crikey jesus...obviously I like to do voices and characters to entertain my employees when we're not busy. i hope this anecdote finds thee well in this the roaring 20s
I think it’s a pretty funny side story Wolverine & Spidey switching bodies cause I can’t think of any other comic character you could do that with & make it work like if you do a body switch story with Spiderman & anyone else it’s jsut funny cause of how Peter is as a characater
Always glad to hear about Ultimate Spider-Man. Ultimate Wolverine sucked even before Ultimatum. A lot of great moments in this video. Thank you for this video! Happy new year ComicPop!
We skipped Hollywood by accident. We'll get to it next time!
Happy New year guys welcome to 2020
No biggie 🤷♂
Hopefully the next “next time” isn’t like another year
ComicPOP Happy New Year, guys! 2020 is going to be awesome!
Yea Thank its my favorite Ultimate Spider Man story and Happy New Year
Yes, the one-off, never-appears-in-another-issue-of-this-comic-ever-again villain who IS NOT NAMED IN THIS COMIC is Gladiator. Thanks folks!
Great way to bring in the New year. With Ultimate Spider-Man

48:14 Oh, I though Flash was trying to tell Peter that he was Force-sensitive.
JJ needs a lightsaber to deal with those shots fired.
Lmao
This time, it was PETER having an illegitimate child with a villain that led to Gwen's death.
Somewhere, Tiffany just got PTSD thinking about Sin’s Past
Please don't remind us of that story lol
My god... *mind blown*
Well, that image is now officially in my head. Thank you sooooooo much for that

very true, Bendis was at his best with the ultimate spider-man comics but as of lately he's kinda been falling off a bit
@@tyreseandujar5841 I think he just doesn't mesh with superman well

Ultimate Spider-Man (Peter Parker) is not only Peak Bendis, but perhaps Peak Spider-Man in any form of media.

Maybe the Carnage Shattered Dimensions was Gwen. Spiderman said "For once your not tranaforming into someone near and dear to me."

Yeah this carnage was really weird because it combined Gwen Stacy death with the carnage symbiote which was weird
This is the type of stuff I wish they did with the symbiotes in the main 616 universe, where it's basically just a horror comic in all but name.
This is a perfect episode of Back Issues for me!
