One way to make this scavenger hunt easier is to ready (but don't cast) the Telekinesis spell. Because it can target any items you can pick up within a good-sized radius, you can use that spell to sniff out any items nearby without getting very close to them.
Unfortunately you don't get very much in the way of a reward other than experience points. You can't even turn in those items you found to Myxir to get something useful. One of his dialogue threads seems to imply that getting all the items together should yield an anti-undead item but no such luck.

Well i know about the Telekinesis spell but i tried to show here exactly where you will find the stuffs. you don't have to run whole place but follow the path i've shown to save some time.

in every single playthrough this quest scratches away at my sanity, even with the map acropolis gives you. running around in these fecking ruins to the (once it repeats 2 times) godawful music made me aggressive every time. but I wouldn't just leave it because hey. this is gothic. you don't leave quests (unless they're so glitched you literally can't complete them).
