So weird Salem doesn't use Hero's neutral B, it's such a good move and even if he doesn't use the charge the fear factor involved in having it is such a great tool. That said, Tea was awesome.
The issue with neutral B is that the fully charged version costs so much MP, and it takes quite a bit of time to reach full charge for how bad Hero gets beaten in disadvantage. It is better to fish for a buff in Hero's menu most of the time than to fully charge the move, which is why Salem mainly uses uncharged neutral B at the opponent. Also, Zapple is usually a better option.
oh no? although you would think that people who play this game competitively would take the time to learn to read hero’s menu. it’s not hard. few of my foreign friends who play casually got it down within a week or so.
Yo that 91% ladder though, Tea's got some crazy Pac logic on his side. I love how he doesn't really rely entirely on the projectiles either. Every time bounce went up he straight dropped his projectile and threw hands, it was beautiful. Way to go, Tea! You did great! Go home and be a researcher, Salem.
Yeah, since his opponent was a zoner, he had plenty of chances to use his Neutral-B. Unfortunately, he only focused most of his time reading that stupid menu. Also, I feel like Magic Burst is worse against zoners, especially because Pacman can stall with Up-B when recovering to the ledge.
Magic burst is already risky because of mama use and most can throw a projectile out and cancel it, combine that with the fact it has a slow start up and low shield damage.... it is very not worth often times in the nuetral to use magic burst in pacmans scenarios
Magic burst wouldn’t be helpful since pac’s side b has near infinite super armor like mac’s smash attacks so it wouldn’t be helpful and neutral b is pretty easy to dodge and as shown pac man goes so much faster the hero it would be hard to find an opening for that move when you have a better chance getting kaboom which is much better
I'm not gonna defend what Salem did here, but I wanna make sure the other side of the argument is heard too: Tea, Raito and other Japanese players knew well ahead of time and consented to entering an English language tournament. If it was going to be a problem they should have talked to the TOs or simply not attended. If this situation happened in reverse with Salem at a Japanese tournament i would 100% put the blame on him for entering something he can't read. Until either Nintendo or the Smash community find a fix to this problem it's also up to the players to accept responsibility and either learn to read the language their playing against, advocate Hero be banned, etc. This community is a group effort and we all gotta do our part to fix this problem.
It takes like 15 minutes to figure out what spells to fish for, and considering Salem doesn't ever go for Magic Burst, he won't ever misread マダンテ (Magic Burst) as メガンテ (Kamikaze) tbh, Japanese or French are probably the best languages for Hero

Agree, PacMan is rough for Hero cause PacMac as a zoner character he has extremely good aerials which conpletely destroys Hero. PacMan doesnt have a reflector, Phantom is the best move to deal with zoners without a reflector.

Personally I don't see the issue. We knew shortly after Hero was released this would be an interesting counterplay. Also Salem mains Hero along with Snake. Beyond that, he's being respectful. He shakes Tea's hand after losing and even gives a little bow, which commonly in Japan shows respect to your opponent.

Not surprising the comments are toxic. Look, learn the game and stop complaining. This is getting ridiculous.
The best Hero plays I have seen is when the menu is mixed into his moveset but not to just rely on it. Any player going into this environment needs to prepare and not even trying to learn Hero's menu is just being ignorant. If the role was reverse and this was in Japan or Spain would it still be okay to cry about not knowing the language. No, just learn it, it isn't that hard.
Now I completely agree that Nintendo could very well fix this by adding a unique symbol to the down b menu, but until then learn a few words.

I hate Salem but I am South Australian (no joke) and want to see Hero banned so I don't know who to cheer for.
Honestly, Salem's hero doesn't look that incredible. He's not doing anything particularly special. Clearly he's pretty good, since he's making it to finals (or lucky) but still doesn't look really like he's doing much to optimize and advance hero meta.
I'm not entirely convinced that anyone should be banning Hero.
so wait people are arguing hero usage was an unfair strategy by salem when he lost? this community is full of nonsensical people. these international players attending the tournament in an english speaking event took care to learn how to adapt to the situation. hero is not a hard mu in this game. hero is barely a decent character. a little bit of effort and you too can win the MU rather than whine on youtube and reddit.
I think people are also frustrated by his rng online, it's more of a venting thing as well as some occasional bad luck
