49. Porto, Portugal (May 2024)

A delightful city located on the Douro River in a valley, with steep hills flanking each riverbank. The wharf is a vibrant area with stalls of treasures for tourists and delightful outdoor cafes. The buildings at the wharf, and throughout the City, are decorated with colorful tiles. At one of the squares is a beautiful old bookstore, Livaria Lello, said to be the inspiration for J.K. Rowling's Hogwarts. The Old Town abounds with sculptures and churches, including Clerigos, whose tower offers a sweeping view of the City.
