You're right and I absolutely abhor this. Someone can say literally anything and they could be factually 100% correct and it's common knowledge but there's always, ALWAYS that one braincel who has to be like "er well akchually" and come out with an extremely rare single example of when 5 bullets in someone's head did not kill them and somehow disproves that 5 bullets to the head is fatal. Like, do these morons think they themselves would survive this? Or they're the special exception to every single case of anything on the planet or something?

Idk if it’s just an internet problem. Too many people seem to be severely lacking empathy, decency, etc. I’m sure when someone says something rude they know they’re being rude, they probably just don’t see a reason to care.

I think part of the reason why this is happening is because, people are more chronically online.
Irl our actions have an immediate reaction/consequence, and the internet just incentivizes negative or provocative behavior.

You have a really fascinating take. For me personally I've been trying to get more positivity in my life, but I've found it so difficult with how much negative and horrible garbage is everywhere online. The videos I get recommended are always about how "this person is bad" or "this company actually is a scam", the positive to negative ratio is so wack man. I've been trying not to even click on those videos, but they're just... everywhere. I've just been trying to learn not to interact with anger bait. I hope one day we can move on from where we are online now, but I have no idea what that would even look like.

i feel like this is most relevant on larger algorithmic based platforms like twitter or reddit. like if you go on twitter nowadays and comment on any post, you'll see posts specifically catered to your interest to piss you off. I think that is a really big reason why the internet has become more hostile, its a feature of the psychological manipulation that those aggressive algorithms enable, not even getting into the anonymity the internet provides.

We definitely need to stop feeding negativity and giving it attention if we want to stop the spread of hateful comments and drama in general online in various social spaces. • @IAmTheEagleHTM
    @IAmTheEagleHTM 22 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +4

Partner, I understand you completely here. This is the very reason I stopped making video essays: people don't even watch your video, just come in and say the most aggressive stuff possible, sometimes even unrelated to the topic. Like, I picked a side on the spectrum, but even my own side attacks me for little things like the anime avatar, people seriously don't care, they don't even try to understand, they just wanna point their fingers at you. I don't feel comfortable around some people and I keep attracting exactly then, so I gave up that and decided to focus on streaming, because that way it's more clear, they stay away and the right people pop up.
But the funny thing is, everyone says the Sonic community is the worst, but in reality, the Sonic and Ultrakill communities were the ones who welcomed me and treated me the best, after all, Sonic for Master System was the very first Sonic game I played, I played it when I was 4 and I've always been a Sonic fan, so I feel very good in this community. The Red Dead and Devil May Cry communities though, those have been the worst. The former is exactly the ones I'm talking about, they come to my videos and say the most harmful things possible, even criminal accusations or telling me to end myself. Of course I know I'm not that or am not gonna do that, but the fact they come at all is already horrible, I wish there was a way to keep these people away, but in any case, no more essays.
Mike Tyson was right, the internet made people too comfortable with saying anything they want without any consequences, and it's sad.
    Either way, liked and subscribed.

yeah, i totally agree with you that other people are being rude instead of being kind more often in society and how a lot of ppl harass others over opinions that ultimately don't matter, especially if it's about a piece of media. most ppl are comfortable with being toxic online because the internet allows ppl to talk from behind a screen and not face the consequences of their actions, but ppl in real life are also extremely apathetic and are just plain disrespectful.
additionally, many ppl don't "care" about each other, they only want to feel morally superior once they bash someone for a mistake they made, even if it was just a small one that didn't harm anyone.
in my opinion, ppl are growing less sympathetic and more toxic bcuz of how our society doesn't place a greater emphasis on taking care of each other and how the internet can let ppl say really toxic stuff without facing any serious consequences, no matter how weird their comments are. there's also a lot more that i want to say about this issue, but i just can't properly put it into words and maybe someone else has already done it for me in a much better way. anyways, take care also nice sonic 3 game play :))

I don't know you, and I'm unfortunately wrapping up at around 7:30 because I gotta do some other stuff...
    I wanted to say, though...
In Japan, for the past 20 years, their entire society will refuse to leave their house without a mask when they're ill. This isn't because some government told them to, it's because the average person there gives enough of a crap about the people around them that they want to reduce their burden on them (getting them sick.)
The way the US reacted to the same problem, and honestly MOST Western countries is a joke. You had people purposely going out and coughing on people to fearmonger, you had people wearing more and more absurd things on their face "just to comply..." even when they provide reduced or no protection...
All that to illustrate that I think I agree with you when you say "People are getting away with doing the wrong thing way too often, and I think we're producing people less capable of being decent..."
I've come to a similar conclusion that there's not a whole lot that can be done about it... It's extremely difficult to ignore the obvious ways in which people are just horrible to each other. I don't really know what to do other than just keep being me and try not to be a villain myself. We've got enough on our plate.

I dont think anything has changed from how it was 30, 40 or 50 years ago. There have always been rude outlandish people who make it their personality to hate virtually everything and argue with others.
I think the main difference is that before, those people were limited to their moms basement, now that they have a platform through the internet they can project their insanity into every person's house anonymously.
Im a long time Sonic fan, so trust me when I say that there are some depraved people in this fandom probably more than most. And for some strange reason, Sonic as an IP attracts a lot of the mentally deranged.
The Sonic internet fandom back in the early 2000s were the original internet creeps stalking children online and drawing furry porn on deviantart. I mean just look up Chris Chan (probably don't look up chris chan). He had a huge platform, of mostly younger kids, gifted to him by the internet when he was criminally insane and shouldnt have ever been within 10 miles of a school let alone being watched by kids on an internet forum.
Ultimately the internet was, is and always will be a lawless wasteland that welcomes anyone and everyone (for better or worse) to come and interact with your content. The loudest hateful voices here are usually from very small insecure people, and they're almost always looking to get a reaction out of you.
Youre doing a good thing creating positive child friendly content. Don't feed the trolls and keep your chin up. And be careful out there.

Feels like there’s definitely less empathy and sympathy at the moment. The way I see it, people aggressively and obsessively attacking harmless things (and people) is an intergenerational thing, and only really expresses itself in different ways.
They convince themselves that they represent the majority (ignoring reality's diversity of opinions) and that there's something fundamentally wrong with their targets (though they can never coherently explain what, since it's all vibes-based). Then they use that to justify their 24/7 obsession and cruelty.

There's been a lot of study even quite a long time ago that tend to show that distance makes dehumanization more easy.
It's not a fun topic to talk about, but some pretty terrible acts in world war 2 were done by peoples that, in their POV, just "pressed a button from behind a glass". They knew what they were doing, but that "distance", that screen, that button, made it more easy to them to commit theses act.
Grim comparison apart, in short, peoples are just more cruel the more distance there is to who they're affecting. And it's really sad. I don't know you, nor am I in the sonic community, but we NEED more peoples like you to just remind us what we're doing, to not let this internet life shape us into the worse version of ourselves simply because of the screen. I hope this video reaches out a ton more peoples.

this is loosely related, but so many people suffer from internally directed negativity too.
to succeed, to be attractive, to even be a valuable human being, people compare themselves to so many unrealistic standards
it's hard to just live and be. you have to live knowing that you're still single, still live with your parents, still don't have a car, still don't go to the gym, still suck at your hobbies.
it's just a mindset. the truth should be that it's okay to just live and be imperfect. there's 7 billion people-- are you supposed to be the 1% to be somebody worth loving, worth listening to, worth mourning when you're absent? no, it's not supposed to be that way.
but we compare ourselves to people that *look* like they have things we want: friends, a family, independence, a love life. then we struggle to find anything worth loving in ourselves because we aren't those people, and we see ourselves with shame and resentment instead.
the internet makes it so easy to find these perfect people who, in reality, are as human and frail as we are.
i am dealing with this myself. i know all the right words to tell myself, i know how to recognize self loathing and when it's irrational. but holy shit is it insidious, when it's the first emotion that appears when you hear your crush talk about her boyfriend.
    being human is complicated

  • @unfrogettable9495

This is mostly because of a rise in defiance to emotion. A lot of people out there just simply believe to be hurt emotionally or to express that you are being hurt emotionally is weak and should be bullied openly, they claim if it bothers you that you should just get off the internet or learn to grow a spine. The thing is, as we have seen in recent years; events online can very easily turn into real world problems. This pervasive toxicity has leaked into everyday life off of the internet and impacts people on a material level every day and for some people they use the internet to interact with a fandom or group of people to forget the toxicity they experience in their day to day at work or at school or just in their own household, they are then met with behavior like this and it quickly leads to people losing faith in humanity and human interaction altogether, It breeds apathy for strangers and can be the final straw that sparks something extreme to occur in society. The people spreading the toxicity know this, I don't believe for a second they are not aware of it and seem to want tragedies to occur from their behavior. People should have a space to be emotional, to talk about their interests or feelings without ridicule and especially men need to understand that bottling up emotions and putting other people down for daring to express their emotions needs to die as a practice, be empathetic and talk about things without trying to score a hit on someones ego or lack thereof. Being nice is one thing and something a lot of people do in public especially but being KIND takes real effort to accomplish and we all should strive for to make everyone a little more happy. To be nice is to smile or hold the door for someone, to be agreeable. To be kind is to care for others on a deeper more compassionate and human level, to want not only for an interaction to go well but to actively make someone feel better or ease their discomfort. As long as people out there are being toxic however it will just route people into doing that same behavior as a negative outlet for their own emotions until we have spaces full of toxicity and apathy.

I’m so great-full that TH-cam Recommended me this video, I just listened (and watched (playing as Hyper Sonic is Dope, am I right, Lads?)) the whole thing and honestly, I’m on your side, when it comes to being respectful and civil, regardless of whether someone agree or disagree. Because to me, it feels the same, when I encounter negativity online and I ask my self, why? Just why? It doesn’t have to be that way, does it?
I won’t go in a subject matter (cuz I know how react sometimes), but here’s my example. Let’s say there’s a certain subject that I’m personally not a fan of, nor due I judge anyone who supports it, because hey, we all people, with different views in different things and that’s okay. Can you believe, that it’s possible to disagree with somebody and still being a friend with them? Because apparently, that is a news to some many people! Sorry, didn’t mean come off as angry or anything, it just it is upsets me sometimes.
Now, here’s two example, of how my neutral take was received online, whether is TH-cam or Discord server.
    1. A person having a trouble accepting neutral take and began to demand me to elaborate and pressured me to say things that they wanted hear, because, from what I learned, neutral side means negative… like, since when? I never said anything negative, only "Hey, I’m not a fan, nor die I judge", because, you know, we all different and can accept each other for who we are, without making a war…… But apparently that was not the case…..
    2. Another occasion, when that subject appeared again, but instead focusing on aspects that I don’t like, I pointed out the details, that I found as positive. Again, being real, neutral and civil, with out being rude or negative solely for aspects that I’m not a fan of.
    There were two reactions:
One, somebody, of course, wanted to proof me wrong. And a second reaction from a different person was, guess what, a relief! Relief of reading something neutral/positive, without being rude, after reading to much of negative feedback. Can you believe, somebody actually accept my take as it is, without making a war of forcing to me think and act differently!
You have no idea, how surprised I was, when I got that tiny glass of hope for humanity, that there is somebody, who can accept opinions and not make a fuss about it.
Anyway, didn’t mean to overwhelm you with a text of wall, just thought I share some side, to express my appreciation for your video.
    P. s. - I can understand, why SEGA doesn’t want to bring back Hyper Sonic, but maaaaaaaaaan-

I 100% agree with you. people these days are just so cruel and very unpleasant towards others. For example, people were celebrating the death of someone they didn't know, because they were wrong by the system that was supposed to help them. And I tried to open up a conversation being like, "hey, maybe we shouldn't celebrate someone's death. Because that's just cruel and very wrong for us do as a society." And yet, multiple people were attacking me being like, "No your wrong. This man killed more people then the murderer was. Go F yourself"
And that opened up to the realization that people these days don't really care about what they say online anymore. Because the Internet shares this idea of you be anonymous. And you will never be punished, because of you being anonymous under a profile picture that doesn't show who you are. You being anonymous might be great at first, but afterwhile, it just gives people the privilege to be rude towards others you don't know. Surrounded by their own echo chambers and what they want to hear online. It's very sad and depressing.
EDIT: I think in general, I think people need to stop spreading so much negativity all the time. Because, it brings misery and despair then positivity. And every time I see so much hate and negativity, it always makes me feel miserable. And that in term, leads to my panic attacks. Because I feel so overwhelmed by people's negativity. And when that happens, I have to watch some ASMR vids just to calm me down. To show me that it ain't so bad. In life I always strive for positivity and change. But when I see misery and negativity, it makes my goal ten times as harder to achieve. And I hope we can do better. 😊👍

I think we as a society has somehow become more divided in recent years than just about ever before, racism, sexism, etc... Everyone hates everyone these days! Not only that but little, arbitrary things like Mac or Console, Coke or Pepsi,Democrat or Republican, Star Trek or Star Wars, Gamers versus no Gamers, Gamers versus themselves! Classic Sonic fans versus Modern Sonic fans, Sonic fans versus Sonic Fans! (I'm one by the way lol) It's been implanted into our society for a very long time and the internet has just sped up the process plus gave people anonymity. I'm not saying the internet or our phones themselves are a bad thing, I'm just saying that with tools as powerful as these it's inevitable that crooked people are going to use them to turn us against ourselves instead of against them. We live in a very reactionary time in our world and people don't have the patience any more to think 2 seconds before they do anything or formulate their opinions and immediately demonize other people for not instantly agreeing with them.
And yeah, since the world is literally on fire right now, People are not making the best judgment calls, sad to say. It's apparently so much easier to be negative than positive. Why? It's more interesting "news" than some good thing. As a gamer myself, I DO try to approach a situation in a more understanding mentality, since everyone is different and a little kindness goes some ways. Sure, some are just being trashy to be trashy. But others? They could be having a bad day, or be going through something. Prolly shouldn't be TOO open about that on some platforms from what the topic may be, but sometimes just some advice or just... another point of view can be a difference to change for the better.
Side note. Thanks for being more aware of how things are. If there's more self-awareness, there's a more general capacity, unless there's general apapthy, to change. Keep doing what you're doing, i think you've got the right ideas.

Finally, a video that addresses something I've had in the back of my mind for years now. It feels as if the internet's anonymity has made people far too comfortable with outright disrespecting others and it's making its way into real life. I see a bunch of memes going "can we normalize being nice" but that's it, that discussion is only ever brought up in a joking way. I want to say there's a reason as to why people love being hurtful and negative towards others, but I genuinely can't think of a single reason why it would benefit a person. My only guess is they were hurt, so they have to hurt others. And even then, it's not like I wasn't hurt, but I don't go around treating others like garbage because of it. It just feels like the internet is far too hostile and you're just told to "get over it" without anyone actually doing something about it. It's so disappointing. How did social media go from sending our friends e-mails to this?

We are both 35 years old and Sonic 3 & Knuckles is one of our favorite games. We have that in common, but one major difference between you and me is that you are concerned about society for different reasons. I am more so concerned about people behaving violent, where as you mentioned you were brought up old school where a person gets their butt kicked for speaking in a way that is disrespectful. Our outlook on this stuff is radically different. I am not bothered by people who are mean to me with their rhetoric, but violent people scare me to an extreme. One of the reasons why I lost faith in humanity is because a lot of people believe violence is the answer. I feel like if society fails, it deserves to fail for embracing violence as a solution to its problems. I will embrace the collapse of American society if that happens.
You seem kind of surprised by nasty comments, but I remember when the internet functioned similar to the wild west. People were way more unhinged with their rhetoric back then compared to now because the average internet user took the internet less seriously. I would not let their negativity get to you too much. Most people are struggling right now and struggle can bring out ugly sides out of people. I struggle badly with mental health issues, which can impact my own rhetoric when I chat with people on the internet. I would just focus on improving as a content creator and making content you are passionate about.
Good luck with the future of your TH-cam channel. Just subscribed and I think this format has potential for you to get a lot of views with future videos. Just keep grinding to find out what works best for you as a content creator. The algorithm in 2025 is more favorable to smaller TH-cam channels than it was in previous years, so you picked a good time to take TH-cam seriously. What is nice about being 35 years old for this style of long form content is that we have life experience, so we have more to talk about based off of life experience.

Why be kind when you can be selfish? Most people are. Its just that when they feel there's no consequences then there's no reason for them to care. This happens all the time in real life too, especially in cities when anonymity is abundant.
That's why when those same selfish rude people get significantly called out or feel threatened for doing something rude and selfish. They start feeling like they are being negatively affected, then start editing and deleting their content, posts, comments ect, change accounts, or make apologies. You see it all the time in youtube comments or any social media when people reply to accounts that are deleted or comments that are edited. Could also be why the older generations feel more respectful, since they know how important being respectful is, and the consequences being rude would get you. Don't want to be a doomer or that guy, but that's just how it is most of the time. It's nothing new, just the scale is larger and more magnified. You don't blame animals for acting like animals right? Of course not everyone is like that, but a large amount of people are. Good video tho

I don't think it's any one thing that has caused us to be this way, but rather a gradual progression. The separation of keyboard to person has certainly been the main catalyst, to be able to say ANYTHING to somebody with zero consequences, things you wouldn't dare say publicly has contributed largely. This has only festered over time, especially with social media, escalating immensely over the last decade. Take for example, calling somebody a "Not see" (i have to say it that way so my comment doesn't get hidden) was once considered verboten because it was such a lame @ss low blow that you wouldn't bother saying it. Now, people are QUICK to call eachother that, and let me tell you, people are pi$$ed about being called that over the last decade, and it perpetuates the anger even further. Then, couple that with all of the problems piling up in the real world, the record unemployment, trashed economies, real issues being completely ignored, corruption to the highest degree, suddenly people are all out of fux to give and are willing to hate eachother... So, that beings us to where we are now. Will it stop? Pffft, sadly no, at least I don't think anyway. All you can really do is try to better yourself, like blocking somebody who is posting rage bait instead of responding to it, refusing to try to argue with somebody for the sake of a "gotchya". Trust me, at the end of your life, you won't be wishing that you had argued with more strangers on the internet.

Good video. Other than your central messaging, I've been looking to get away from the negative content farm that dominates the TH-cam gaming space and find smaller TH-camrs just doing their thing and talking about their passions. Best thing you can do is what you're already doing which is creating positive and nuanced content that doesn't feed the outrage drama machine.

I mean, it's a double edged sword in a lot of ways. What you're describing is just the other side of the coin that is anonymity. Sure, it can be used to facilitate very unscrupulous things that can affect the population as a whole, but I think that society ending up failing cause of it is a bit of an exaggeration. If society does collapse at some point it would more than likely be a contributing factor but definitely not the root cause, and the positives outweigh the negatives in my opinion.
Definitely agree with a lot of the sentiments expressed here, though. Great video overall 👌
Will definitely be subscribing and checking out the rest of your content, best of luck in your endeavors friend 😉

Agreed for sure that I might have blown it out of proportion when I said society would fail because of it but I stand fast to the notion that it's something that is extremely harmful and needs to be corrected somehow. Appreciate the comment and kind words though! Thank you!

literally wished a guy a good day on social media the other day and got chewed out for.. essentially being positive.
i don't want to write folks off as toxic and refuse to interact... but if you have no problem insulting someone for displaying kindness, maybe the only way to "win" is not to play 🤷‍♀️

If you are new to internet communities or more attached to real life you might need some advice. Increase your sensitivity for unfriending and lower your sensitivity to noise. Much of the internet was designed with precautions and comforts that just go unused. Always consider your options and what you want out of the situation you are in.

I agree with you, people should be nicer. But saying people telling others to "F off" is leading to the failure of society is pretty over-dramatic and silly.

Perhaps I did blow it a little out of proportion but at the same time, there are stories of people who were saved from taking their own lives because of the kindness of strangers. I just wanted to express that it's really difficult to see all the good in the world right now when we spend so much time attacking or belittling each other. I appreciate your comment!

it sounds overdramatic but at the same time humans are social creatures so with how it seems everyone feels isolated and quick to insult each other its definitely concerning, but also anonymity has always enabled horrible people i suppose so i cant tell if things are getting worse or if bad things are just more visible now that we have the internet, if bad things are more visible maybe itll be easier to see our flaws to fix them i hope

I personally don't believe in "bad" people, free will doesn't exist, everyone does what they do because of their genetics and their life experiences, and nobody is truly responsible for who they are and what they do as such, but I do believe that people should respect each other if they're capable of doing it. Most people can't, it may be genetic, or maybe how they were treated, but for whatever reason, they can't. I feel that we need to make a effort to make people have a life experience that has the leads to the least amount of toxicity that could come from light experiences while not being overly controlling.

The internet is very Carrot and Stick.
I think there's a little credence to the idea that you have to toughen up about the internet, because there's always gonna be that stuff. But things have also gone a little too far in places.
In addendum, I'd also say that uh
being kind after certain points, people pleasing, can get you to a point where you're just like that. If you're messing your brain up taking a lot of stuff you shouldn't really take, y'know, you're gonna become a zombie or a very angry person.

Coming from someone who has been very negative about Sonic the past few years, I recognize that there is a deep-rooted issue regarding online discourse and the lack of basic respect for even something as trivial as a video game franchise.
To address the point about negativity, I think it's an overall benefit to at least understand why someone may feel strongly about a topic like Sonic. I would argue the phoned in positivity and "hype" could be just as harmful as being overtly cynical because it creates the scenarios discussed in this video. It circles back to learning how to communicate, which a lot of people (in general) don't know how to.
To make it as clear as possible, with no chance for my words to be misconstrued, I do not trust SONIC TEAM making Sonic GAMES. And I believe Sonic Team should be disbanded and never touch the IP ever again. No matter how successful or beloved their games are, they always revert back to some infuriating design choices and have been taking the mainline Sonic games in horrible directions multiple times throughout the franchise's history (i.e. 06, Boom, Lost World, Forces, Frontiers, Superstars). Yes I consider Frontiers to be an absolute failure of a game and a genuine insult to to the Sonic series, but that's besides the point. They lock content that exists in the game behind a "deluxe edition" just to charge extra. Just because Shadow Generations was good doesn't mean the next game will be good. And there's a slew of other reasons why I genuinely think no one should trust them (or frankly SEGA in some cases).
However, I still like Sonic. I like the IDW comics. The movie franchise is fun, and it gives me the opportunity to talk about Sonic to normal people. I liked Sonic Boom (the show). The promo animations are very cool and hit every time. I like the Twitter Takeovers more than the actual games. But this level of inconsistency and bad IP management for THE GAMES is why I feel so offended.
If the games get better and they change the direction for those games, I would shut up and maybe post WOT I like about them. I don't trust Sonic Team's ability to do that, and there are many studios that could make cool Sonic games. If I can just avoid Sonic Team like the plague and get new Sonic games from other developers, I probably wouldn't be as mad.
I could talk forever about WOT I hate, but none of that is attacking you or this video. I think this discussion is worth having, and I'm glad you said that. Keep up the good work
