  • Hi magical friends, and welcome to a collaborated video with ‪@EllaHarrison‬ and ‪@polishfolkwitch‬ on the big topic of social media and the witchcraft/occult community space!
    In this video, we chat about creating a space for this discussion that has been surfacing in the community for quite sometime. Collectively, we can agree that social media has had it's negative and positive impacts. We constructed a series of prompts/questions pertaining to this subject matter with the hopes to create a community discussion for others to join, whether you're a creator or not.
    I found that I wasn't even able to scratch the surface because of how deep the roots really are, but it's the beginning of hopefully a healing conversation and just bringing awareness and attention on the subject. Let this be an invitation for those who would like to share.
    You can find the series of prompts on the Instagram post shared by Joanna here: / c3op4ackono
    Use #OcculTea in your video, post, or other.

    The algorithm is beyond our control. I wish there was a better way to communicate and collaborate. Hopefully this hashtag will help.

    Content consumption vs Doing - At first, at least for myself, content consumption was driven by the need to learn. Later a need to connect or be kept company was the motivating factor. Also the more you see and hear something the more you remember it. In the beginning years I think consumption of knowledge is key. One needs the lecture hours and then the practical labs. When your busy learning may be more important, with smaller magical acts woven into the daily routine. **Smile**

      I love this! Yes, absolutely. The beginning of any new endeavor has a “consumption” period. Like, you’re a seeker of knowledge in the beginning, before applying the foundations. That totally makes sense you’d watch/read to gain better understanding! My hope is that for anyone on a magical path, that it doesn’t just stop there. I think I’ve seen the term “armchair witchcraft” before? Which, I think is about just focusing on information without application to describe what I’m trying to describe in the video, haha. Thank you for sharing your perspective and spending time watching! ❣️

    Witchcraft is not what it use to be. I find any practicing Wiccan on social media kind of loses some credibility. I don’t know, it just feels like people are wannabe witches and are not interested in the craft

    • @SteveW139
      @SteveW139 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      As a Wiccan I think there’s too much focus online on appearance and developing a “witchy vibe” with far too little emphasis on the need for a good solid understanding of the basics of practice. Most of the content creators I follow are traditional practitioners.

      @paulwoodford1984 I believe some aspects of one's Craft should be shared, but others should be kept secret between you, Spirit, and your like-hearted community. The spiritual practices have become digitized....We must always return to Nature. Always. Not to our digital portals....

    💯🖤One learns by doing and taking the time to study. It's cool watching videos but you don't want to rely on someone else's experience without ever finding out for yourself.

    Thank you for these prompts, there's Definitely stuff to discuss on the matter. Just the other day i was asked about what i rhink about rhe inlaxt witchtok has had on witchcraft and how bad popularity can be bur at the same time who knows who will start to practice after having stumbled on any piece of content? Hope to get my strength back soon (im in severe autistic burnout at the moment) to join #occultea

    I used to lament, as a Gen Xer, that there were not more resources when I was growing up. I've studied many paths over the decades, from Wicca to Trad Craft, Druidry, various Recon traditions, etc. I discovered Wicca in the late 80's when I was 11 in the American south at a bookstore in the mall. It had a very small occult/new age section next to the roleplaying game section. There really wasn't a lot of places to get the info. No internet. One occult shop that was a pilgrimage to get to for most in my area. But now, seeing the negative impact of social media in all areas of society, especially in the pagan/occult community, I'm so grateful that my exposure to the craft was so focused by default, with no ability to replace real physical experiences with online soul withering zombification. I'd rather have the restrictions that I grew up with instead of having to be a newbie today and slog through the resources out there and determine for myself as a newbie what is authentic, or rely on someone else to tell me what is authentic when they themselves might be one of the inauthentic ones.

    I've been watching these videos for a while now and they've all been, in my opinion, lukewarm. I'm just being authentic. The real #OcculTea would be talking about something like being a conservative witch or a witch who is voting for Trump or a witch who is even just center right. Would love to see that. Or a bisexual witch who is against childhood transition. Or being a witch who is anything but far left. I feel like this is going to be deleted but I think when you're talking about authenticity this should be talked about as well. Could be a real heated conversation. Good for a live stream. I just feel like there is too much cowardice in the witch community when it comes to this and things like it. You know? Like, we should be able to share our real and actual unpopular opinions. For instance, I've started calling myself a mage more than a witch lately because of the people I've heard on TH-cam basically saying you have to be an activist to be a witch. I just think that would be an interesting conversation. Since, apparently, you can't sperate politics from witchcraft.
