If I may say, you are a delight! Resourceful, intelligent and articulate. Your knowledge of what you want to do in the future is refreshing. I watch a lot of farm videos because I grew up next to a dairy farm in Southwest Ohio and at 9 years old I was there all the time. I loved it! Keep doing what you are and be safe.
The Dog issue is really easy to cure Neline , when you get your Dog introduce the Dog/puppy to the cat and Rabbits from day one , yes you will need to check the dog if he gets to boisterous but with a little work the dog will see the cat and Rabbits as part of his group and will never hurt them , i have seen even hunting dogs and cats sleep and eat together, and if anyone can do it with your patience and skill you will sort it
Hello A Day on the Prairie. Beautiful footage and music. I highly recommend you avoid getting a dog. As for me I've got my taters on the boil, got some steaks in the deep freeze Big family supper tonight. My favorite method of maintaining a sustainable pantry and stockpiling items long term for the whole family is what I consider to be the most practical, utilizing every type of food storage methods and technology available, both old and new. . Except for the fruits and vegetables that get canned, I keep perishable items like meat, poultry, fish, fruit, vegetables and dairy products in the refrigerator on a short term basis until I'm ready to use them for a big family meal - and for even longer term sustainable storage, a large separate freezer, which can store a half side of beef with plenty of room left over for homemade ice cream etc. . I'm considering upgrading to a walk-in freezer at some point.in the near future, if my plans to open a bed and breakfast come to fruition. Sometimes, however a nice round of cheese can do well for quite awhile on a pantry shelf at room temperature - and doesn't mind even if it has to stand there alone. Store bought canned goods get shelves.in the large pantry closet - several for canned meat like corned beef hash, spam and sandwich spread and another for canned vegetables Bread, rolls, grains, homemade pasta, cereals and the like are stored in special humidity controlled bins I order from Amazon Prime - which usually get delivered to my doorstep about an hour after I order them. . Stuff from the family garden and orchard, like onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, cauliflower, cucumber, pumpkins, carrots, corn celery,, potatoes and yams, cherries, blueberries and strawberries get canned in Mason Jars and stored in the cool, root cellar of this wonderful rambling former farmhouse (circa 1867) I share with my extended blended family and several rambunctious dogs raised on table scraps from the some of the finest food from a plethora of sources both commercial and home based. . There's even a special separate "summer kitchen" which I converted to store butter and ice cream churns, pots, pans, utensils, extra storage containers, foil, bags, cutlery, and other meal related accoutrement. Out back in the woods, just beyond the big pile of wood I maintain all year, (for use in an antique woodstove I keep on hand, in case the power goes out) there's even an old rusting vintage still where my great grandfather made some of the finest corn whiskey for miles. Next to it is the rusting hulk of the Ford Model A he used to transport that powerful hootch by the light of the moon on soft summer nights to his eager customers in a tri-county area. Further into this verdant forest of mostly sycamore, oak, pine and scrub, runs a cool stream into which I occasionally cast a rod or net to catch some Brook Trout, Bluntnose Shiners, or whatever takes the bait (just earthworms for the most part). And yes, hunting season means wild turkey, deer, and even an occasional wild boar. Next week, I'm planning on filing for a permit to 3-D print a smokehouse in order to be able to create gourmet artisan handcrafted, beef, bacon, turkey, and beef stick jerky, which interested local merchants can private label for other people to share with their families. Unfortunately, i had to break the bad news to my free range hens today that due to expected egg shortages regretfully numbered are their days of laying a couple of eggs and then basically taking the rest of the day off with ranging privileges' within the parameters of a few very nice rural acres - parts of which are rich with fat grubworms. There's even a short dirt road between the main barn and the farmhouse which they're free to cross to get to the other side as often as they'd like. My rooster Ben overheard me and he ain't too happy either, knowing full well that due to oncoming egg shortages, he'll be "workin' overtime to make sure there's plenty of eggs for me and the family. Y'all have a great weekend.
I love the swaying of the barley field in the wind. It looks like a beautiful green velvet cloth. I admire your ambitions for a goat farm. I can definitely see your love for animals, no need to explain why you don’t have a dog. Glad you did.
Excellent video Neline, love watching field work every bit as much as your milking , goat, calf and horse videos, they're all great!, great you're doing the maintenance too, I'm not surprised, I agree, if you want to raise goats, that's your business, thanks for sharing this side of the dairy business
As an old lady I would say never allow yourself to be pressured into having an animal that wasn’t your idea. Herding goats is not like sheep. And don’t allow your dreams of a large commercial goat herd be squashed. Be true to yourself. I enjoy watching.
I spent summers in the late 50's on my grandfather's farm in Indiana and his whole farm, which seemed big, was 200 acres and your individual fields are 200 acres! Time and equipment changes. I'm guessing that if you start with a young dog or a puppy, in a few months' time you'll wonder how you ever lived without one. All animals have their own personalities, but since a dog can often be part of your daily life and will want to be with you as much as possible, your interaction with a dog is usually different and deeper than with other pets and animals. Plus, if you want to have your own farm someday, isn't there something in the farmers rule book that says you have to have at least one dog?
If your brother has problems has problems with handling the swath that you leave tell him to use a lower gear, that will allow him to process the swath, I notice over the years that he likes speed, sometimes slowing down does a better job, love the music. Cheers
I really enjoyed the music for today's video. It ties in with the western theme of your goat herd. I am a cat person as well and fully understand your apprehension about getting a dog. I have unfortunately witnessed the consequences of dog versus cat. I hope you get the silage in without any difficulties. Happy trails till the next video!
Great to see all the things you do around the farm. You take such great care of all your animals and no one should question you about what you have or should have.
It's nice to hear that you are planning for your future with your goat herd. I live in San Antonio, TX, and thanks to the large Latin population here, goat meat (cabrito) is very plentiful. Goat meat is wonderful, and is underrated. Once you try it you will be hooked. I have had cats and dogs, but in my opinion you cannot beat a cat. Thank you for your wonderful content.
I love your channel, just like I Iike Jan's channel and some other ag channels. Grown up as a farmboy I can totally relate to your thoughts about your future plans. Just go for it 💪👍🏻
"The chopper lost it auger" That made me laugh. I'm know that didn't make to many people happy but sometimes that the best thing is to laugh about and get it fixed. You said it right there only so much time and it takes time to train a dog so it doesn't do whatever it wants to do. I hope the bad luck stay away.
I, also, enjoyed the music you chose. We've had Australian Shepherds for several years and really like their personalities. The more you teach them the more they're eager to learn.
I think it’s great that you had a wide interest is other animals. I don’t think it’s necessary to have to explain why you have the goats you are a responsible animal lover and take excellent care of all your animals. So have any kind and as many as you want. More power to you
Thank You Aline for answering the questions. I kind of thought when I seen you were raising the Boer goat breed it would be the meat market and show. plus breeding stock . Good conformation as your know is vital in producing any herd of livestock. Goats are a great fun to raise. Looks like a nice crop of barley looks like it is toning out well.. Keep up the great videos Have a great day .
I am so proud of you and I know your working very hard and don’t worry about your Choice and wind the time you want to tell the news about Andy thing it’s up to you but I know your a good person with your heart and care a lots you have at home your animals I really do know sometimes it’s hard to take care of them but you love them a lot like wind your very Busy and no time for your self or your life
Corgis are highly underrated on the farm. I have a ranch raised Corgi. She’s amazing, smart, smooth around other animals and easy company. BUT they shed like beasts. She was born on a Quarter horse Ranch in Central Alberta and they also breed Corgi/Aussie mixes.
Another great video Neline. Tell Jan to slow down a little bit with the chopper and the swath should not be a problem. My father and uncles that farmed would all be over 100 years old if they were still alive. I don’t remember any of their tractors having cabs. My uncle bought a J.D. combine in the early 70s that had a cab and a.c.
I also love Jane Austen! I read her all the time. Off course you can have goats, if you want to, no one should question that, but just enjoy the journey with you. At least I enjoy your videoes (more than your brothers) I enjoy it all the way from Denmark, which is quite speciel to see how you are with your animals og help wherever you can on the farm. Some time ago you said, that you love Europe. Well, I hope you come to see Denmark some day!
Glad to hear everything is going smoothly so far. A little rain in the forecast tonight and Monday so fingers crossed. Add me to the list of goat meat customers I love me some Shishliki and I haven’t been down to Kamsack to get any for years.
Have you seen Bridgerton? I'm obsessed. I know it's not really authentic, but it's definitely steamy 😛. I'm quite fond of Johnathan Bailey's character. 😊 but the overall cast is brilliant and quite talented. (Obviously not something you can watch while working, but just thought I would mention it anyway.)
Your barley really did well. We were up your way in early June and you looked a little dry at that time. Have raised border collies for 45 years so please listen. Get a dog that isn’t too high powered or they will drive you nuts making sure they not herding your dry cows, bunnies, goats etc. when you not around. Good luck and stay safe. P.S. doesn’t your swather have a separate cab filter for air quality?
You get what you really want not what others say. Me I am a dog person. One dog I have scares people because she looks like a pit bull. All she wants is friends and loves to ride. Around any thing else I don't know but she lets my older dog boss her around.
I get people reaching out to our farm all the time looking for goat meat, not sure about up there where you are at but here in Michigan there is a pretty good market for goat meat
I have to echo a lot of comments of how articulate, intelligent beautiful young lady you are. I am a sincere fan of your channel. What did you take at University?
how concerned are you with silage quality? moisture and kernel fill levels must be a huge factor in quality of feed so why do u just start cutting ahead of a rain? is the equipment too small to finish the field fast enough otherwise?
I’m sorry to say dogs can be trained. They definitely don’t pay attention to you. Although they aren’t yours. You just need to work with them and it takes time which you probably don’t have.
Starting watching the video and expected to see Clint Eastwood ride by.
😂 I wish! Lol
Hello from Saskatchewan great videos thanks for sharing
Just wonderful watching a young lady with so much knowledge on what’s she’s doing. Thank You
The views across the prairie are beautiful. I am amazed at the skillet needed to cut barley to not lose feed value.
No new Nelene with cute cows, goats and conversation
If I may say, you are a delight! Resourceful, intelligent and articulate. Your knowledge of what you want to do in the future is refreshing. I watch a lot of farm videos because I grew up next to a dairy farm in Southwest Ohio and at 9 years old I was there all the time. I loved it! Keep doing what you are and be safe.
Amen to that!
Imo you never need to explain your plans or motivations to anyone. Do what makes you happy. Thanks for making the videos.
The Dog issue is really easy to cure Neline , when you get your Dog introduce the Dog/puppy to the cat and Rabbits from day one , yes you will need to check the dog if he gets to boisterous but with a little work the dog will see the cat and Rabbits as part of his group and will never hurt them , i have seen even hunting dogs and cats sleep and eat together, and if anyone can do it with your patience and skill you will sort it
Wonderful music, so appropriate for the video.
Aline your choice of music for your videos is just wonderful, please keep it up. Love your commentary as well. THANK YOU
You do such a great job of editing and pairing the music with your videos. Keep on trucking girl
Really enjoyed your choice of music for this video.
Just subscribed farmer from Kansas
We have blue heelers and Australian shepherd. Aussies are more laid back, heelers are hard headed but extremely loyal. They are both great breeds.
Certainly this is the most artistically produced of all the farm channels I have watched. Interesting, and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you.
I love harvest season on the farms, thanks for sharing this with us! I hope Jan video’s the chopper!!
I love your videos .
Thank for sharing them with us .
Best regards from the south of Morocco.

Yet another informative and interesting post, Neline! Love the shot of the hawk on the dead tree at 17:12.
Love the video, as a city slicker I learn so much. Your friend Don from Minnesota.
I REALLY ENJOY the quality of your videos
Hopefully your subscriber count will drastically increase due to how good your videos are to watch.

Missing your videos
👍
The hawk just thanked u for flushing with big your combine as u cut the barley some land creatures for him to hunt after the clearing.
My suggestion would be #1 Australian Shepard #2 Border Collie #3 Chihuahua
I will never get a chihuahua, but I’ll consider the first two suggestions 😂
Where are you ? We miss you !

Can you tell the moisture as you cut.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in Acting 😄. Tried to do something different but came back to the farm because I missed it too much.
I ended up joining the military gained a managers degree. Same reason and miss my time on the farm. Specifically the haybine.
If that’s the it's goat to be
Hoe veel ha hebben jullie
Great Pyrenees get them as a pop and put them in with the goats and forget them

How many acres total of barley lol
how concerned are you with silage quality? moisture and kernel fill levels must be a huge factor in quality of feed so why do u just start cutting ahead of a rain? is the equipment too small to finish the field fast enough otherwise?
Why are you so beautiful? Great video.
Tell Juan to get his next 3 videos out pls
You have the most kissable lips! Great videos, editing, music, the way your header looks when I see a row of your videos.
