I always enjoy the people who show interest when I'm fishing. This one lady sat on a bench behind me for like an hour because her son really wanted to see me fish. so I caught a little bass and asked if she wanted to let her son release it. Biggest smile on that kids face. I'll never forget that. Makes fishing that much more worth it. He was like 4 and listened well when I showed him how to put it back softly and head first. A chance to show him to respect nature and still have a blast while doing it

Raise your kids so that other people will like having them around. Children who are polite and listen get more opportunities and better social experiences. Just because some adults are genuinely more happy and comfortable when your kid has manners and is nice. Kids pick up on a lot.

If you think that's somehow a contradiction, it's a statement of how naïve you are.
If you've had multiple bad experiences, or even just one very bad experience, one experience to the contrary doesn't make your efforts or desire to avoid people invalid.

Then will go to the supermarket, and buy 10 pounds of beef, chicken, and salmon, and feel good about themselves. Thinking, "I really stuck it to those killers, abusing the poor fish, just trying to live, but damn honey, this steak is delicious. Anyways, they were monsters, and had to be stopped." Honestly i agree with you, that fishing is a lot of fun. But the problem i have with what you are doing is "Catch and Release".
Fish are vertebrates and it is aproved that they can feel pain similar to how we do. So from that perspective catching fish for your own satisfaction can be seen as animal cruelty.
Again i dont want to accuse you or put you in a bad light or something. I just think its important for people to be aware of what they are doing... how they will actually end up dealing with that Information is up to them.
Btw.: in this specific situation, catching and releasing a fish when the water is that cold may actually have an even higher impact on that fish, because since fish are cold-blooded (meaning they have the same temperature as the water sourounding them) they waste a lot of energie if they are stressed and forced to move quickly. And during winter its very difficult for them to gain that Energie back and they might actually end up dieing just because of that.

Just try convincing them... its way more effective and it wont lead to that many conflicts (and those dont make the person ur talking to chage their behaviour... on the contrary... they will just try to get away from you as soon as possible, not thinking about what you may want to tell them but simply be anoyed bythe fact that youre insulting them.

Nice northern pike! Here in Minnesota, fishing is almost a given, and so people like me who aren’t nearly as much for it are considered a bit odd!

I've always found that it is mostly hunters and fisherman that are the most environmentally aware. That's because they are the ones who understand the true use of nature and how useful it is

Can't agree, they make mess, spread diseases and kill the best/strongest animals instead of weaker ones like natural selection would do.
