    I used to have one exactly like that, except it was a newer model with the fused plug and the rear grill does not say anything on it. I bought mine new and gave it to my aunt who need a fan to put in the window. My aunt still has the fan with the box after moving to my grandparent's house.

      Interesting, I didn't know the fused plug model ever came with this guard..

    • @andrewg593
      @andrewg593 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think the fused plug model ever did have this rear guard. I've never seen a Weathershield model with the older guard before either. This is the first one. I'm guessing this is the first Weathershield model. I think the guard was redesigned to accommodate the small junky motor but it wasn't done until 2005 or so. Lasko actually used the older guard on the premium model with the small motor for a short time. I've seen them before. I've seen them with the Marco motor too.

    The first couple models that had PSC motors were quite on par with the full-size ones. It's just the one hazard with the motor windings possibly shorting out.

      The one you're describing sounds like the Premium model, which was offered with the larger motor for only a very short period of time.. I believe this model in the video never shipped with the larger motor.. This one isn't going anywhere, one of these days it will be completely restored..

    I ended up using a fused cord from a dead lasko stand fan and using the other end of for an outlet so I had a fused cord for the 4 recalled lasko fans I have lol. I did it that way so I could keep the original cord on them and not have to cut the plug or cord off the fan itself. I think you can still call lasko and get a fused cord adapter for one of these but I just decided to make one. But definitely a good find these are getting pretty hard to find.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If anything I'll just plug it in to a fused extension cord.. Due to the rarity, this is not a piece I'll be using regularly and unattended.. I wouldn't want the adapter from Lasko because I believe it can't be removed though I am curious to see if they still distribute those things..

    Mines come from the same era, 2001-02! Both of ours run the same too! And I do have to agree that it does pushes more air than the 3rd gen and 2nd Lakewoods lol.
    -
    Also, There are a few models of these Lasko fans that you could possibly find today, which aren’t that easy, and they are:
    1. The original Weather Shield, model 3720
    2. The Weather-shield w/ thermostat, model 3755
    3. The GE branded box fan, model 106620
    4. The Lasko box fan w/ thermostat, model 3780
    5. The 2nd and 3rd Lasko Ultra Force Box Fan, both models are 3750.

      You don't see these early ones with the smaller motors to offten. They were pretty good for being cheaper made.

  • @andrewg593
    @andrewg593 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've seen these before but never knew the model number. This would indeed be one of the recalled models. Now I'm starting to wonder if Lasko ever made a Weathershield with the Marco motor. I've never seen one but that rear grille makes me wonder if it did happen for a short time. The ones with the small motor don't sound as nice as the Marco motor ones and probably don't move as much air. This must be one of the first models with the small motor. I would probably add a fused plug to this one or something. I don't know. I can't believe this would move more air than a 2nd gen Lakewood. That would really have to be moving some air to be doing that. I know my 200/I from 2001 is insanely powerful and it beats any petal blade Lasko I have ever used. The front guard probably helps the air movement.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's probably the same guard as was used on the Premium model.. I've never seen one of these with the full-size motor.. Tory said they never made one.. Would make sense as the full-size motor had no weather-resistant properties that I know of..
      I think the motors are probably comparable in power output.. A PSC motor has a higher efficiency that PSC, even in a physically smaller format it can still produce a comparable power output as a larger shaded-pole motor..
      I have one of the brace-blade models with the Marco motor.. I'll do a comparison once I get this thing cleaned and serviced..
      I do believe the front guard will make a huge difference in the performance..

    • @andrewg593
      @andrewg593 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JordanU This front guard definitely improves air movement. Brace blade Lakewoods had Mcmillan motors. Not Marco. The rear grille is the same as the premium. I think that rear grille is designed with the Marco motor in mind because they have the larger vents that were spaced out in a round pattern like the rear guard. I don't think they ever made one of these with the full size motor but you're giving the small motor too much credit. It's definitely less powerful, less meant to be serviced, and more likely to fail then the Marco motors ever were. Neither motor was weather resistant. I think it's just a marketing ploy.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewg593 That was a type-O, I meant McMillian..
      I think so as well, this guard blocks almost all the air from flowing over the smaller motor..
      I've yet to work on one of these motors that's this old; perhaps I should get through the servicing of this one before making any more commentary..
      I think the only elements of 'weather resistance' were the fact that the rear bearing is closed off so water can't get in.. Intentionally or not, I do believe the motors are relatively water resistant.. I've used the black WeatherShield model in the window on plenty of rainy nights, the entire fan including the motor were dripping with water the next morning and still worked just fine..

    • @andrewg593
      @andrewg593 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JordanU Well all of these small motors have the sealed rear bearing and I'm convinced that's done to deter people from servicing it. I like my Weathershield Select but I know its got nothing on vintage box fans. It took Lasko until about 2005 to change the rear guard so I don't know. I really don't like these small motors and never did. The small Lakewood motors are a lot better. They have an open rear bearing in the rainguard box fan and they're much less prone to failure from my experience

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewg593 That's a possibility, but you have to figure that 99.99999999998% of the people that buy these fans wouldn't even give a thought to attempting to oil the motor.. For the handful that are willing, a sealed bearing is no match..
      Didn't the Lakewoods cost more?
