Do Tractors have a neutral starter switch that prevents the engine from starting if it’s in gear? Every once in a while my old car wouldn’t start so I had to put it in gear and put it back to park.

    • @jordanmcfarren7226
      @jordanmcfarren7226 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

To add to this, check anything that would be a no-start condition. Sometimes every switch and lever needs to be in the right spot, or else the engine won't start. Oftentimes when something won't even click over, it's because the machine is actively stopping the starter from running until all the right conditions are met.

  • @michaelfriesth6405

Check to see have ye got voltage going to the starter if ye haven’t already done it. Push in the stopper in the cab and cross the starter it should turn over if there’s power going to it if not then you’re issue is in the starter. If it does start then your issue is provably either a wire off you’re key switch or in the switch itself or one of the 2 wires it needs to start is either broken or some of the covering on the wire got stripped somewhere and is causing a short and draining you’re battery

Starter -> try directly starting it @ the solenoid. To do this you take a insulated screwdriver & wedge it between the terminals on the solenoid. If the solenoid is on the starter motor - wedge the screwdriver between the large terminal (usually a "+" )battery cable and a smaller one, if the solenoid is located else where, there should be 4 terminals - 2 large - 1 on each side of the terminal (again usually a "+") & 2 smaller (on the front of the solenoid) IN THIS CASE - short out the 2 small terminals.
In BOTH CASES - if the starter turns the problem is from the dash to the solenoid - if it doesn't turn you've got a bad solenoid/starter.
Example of remote solenoid - www.cjponyparts.com/starter-solenoid-f-100-1956-1972/p/SS13/?year=1964&msclkid=93f759c0c9b31ed51c2d3996a0f4d67c&New%20Bing%20Shopping%20Ads&All%20Products

CT showed the damage but they let me go back to my unit in the field my throat was swollen and bruised from collar bone to my ear. Now I can lose my voice in the middle of saying something, my voice, never pleasant to begin with sounds like a rock crusher. Which is good because now I don't have to sing anymore which makes other people happy because I've been told I'm a wee off key.

I used to read this to my son when he was little, it's from Something Big Has Been Here by Jack Prelutsky...
My frog is a frog that is hopelessly hoarse,
my frog is a frog with a reason,
    of course,
my frog is a frog that cannot croak a note,
my frog is a frog with a frog in its throat.

Great day in Elk as we woke up to 1/2” of hail and freezing temperatures. It’s been short-sleeve weather for two weeks...I almost planted oats last week! I relate to Dad Cornstar...I have five tractors averaging 60 years old (the new one is 38 this year!). You hop up in the metal seat and twist or pull a knob to start or in the two fancy ones I actually turn a key! I just can’t justify a new tractor because with grease, oil and maintenance they NEVER break down. The last real repair was tires...wait! There was a leaky hose last year that cost me $17.00! (Air filter $230.00). BUT..My quote for a new bulldozer was $436,700 and a tractor and plow is $278,399....nope..not until the old ones actually won’t start!

If you had a lathe there cole you could make your own spacers.... It is always curious to me why you don't have any machine shop tools or a 3d printer.... You got welder. Why are you missing the other tools?

Those Massey 2000 series tractors (2675, 2705, 2745, 2775, and 2805) caused so many problems that they severely damaged the company and took many good dealers out of business. Much of the problem was that the sales department wanted them released before the engineers were confident all the transmission issues were solved. Sales won the debate and the rest is history. Fortunately, Massey Ferguson has made a great comeback and now makes excellent tractors.

I like trouble shooting, always check the obvious first, fuse, a quick visual for broken lines, then start with the malfunctioning product that’s not working and work back to what is supposed to make it work. Patients is key, but I’ve always found the problem.

I noticed the title of your video changed.... while I did note quietly to myself its a landfill, not a "dump", I also know that we can't ALWAYS know the correct lingo. I only know because I worked for a trash company at one time and the people in that business could get a little touchy about the "dump" reference due to the environmental practices when they really were "dumps". Anyway, God Bless you guys! I hope people weren't too hard on you!

New parts aren't always good parts. If you have battery power at the starter try jumping across it. If it doesn't click or turn over it's probably junk. Also check grounds.

Does the starter have a separate solenoid? Is the IGN lead testing hot when the key is turned to the start position? Same question if the solenoid id part of the starter- is the IGN lead hot when the key is turned? If it is, try hacking the starter when the key is turned. That should wake up the sleeping hamster in the starter! If the critter still doesn't run, take the starter to the auto parts store (NAPA) and have them test it. Follow the advice! The Massey sat outside, unused for several months I believe, before you brought it in- the starter may have developed a problem. Not what you wanted to hear, but when it time for the hamster to go, it's just time! ON Sable's comment about the grease- wear gloves and throw them away when done! ON the smell at the dump- stay well upwind and always burn your own trash if you can! DC, from one old codger with fat fingers to another, just call out the troops, it's cheaper and faster then fixing our uh- ohs. FR

Cole.. why use Red wheel bearing grease. when you should be using something like Schaffer 238 super tacky grease. its not for automotive wheel bearings but works great for slow moving components . also keep the grease gun loaded with 238 in a waterproof backpack with shop rags and rubber gloves Cole.. also sore throat ... gargle with some Hydrogen peroxide. then spit and rinse with water. don't swallow the foam. it will burn the crud right out of your throat.. put some in a spray bottle and spray it full strength on your bathroom sink and counters.. spray some on the kitchen sink and faucets also. watch the foam happen.. where its foaming is stuff you don't want on your hands or in your food..

Get a power grease gun. I got a Milwaukee one. Then changed out the grease coupler for a LockNLube Grease Gun Coupler. Clip-on and pull the trigger for a few pumps and move to the next one. This setup, you waste very little grease. It won't come out all around the coupler like the standard coupler. Also if the zerk is a little stuck close, with this setup, you can generally push past the ball and get the grease into the fitting.
So one hand hold the grease gun, the other hand to click on the coupler, pull tricker and move to the next one. You can go pretty fast. It's also less messy.
Both things you can get at Amazon. I wish I got one a long time ago. It does make it a little longer of a setup. Maybe you can no longer attach to the fitting. I took care of this changing out the zerks for 45 or 90-degree zerks where needed. So I can easily clip on and grease up quickly. It's not a huge deal anymore. For me, I have to get up and lean over to reach the zerk fittings, It's nice to reach out and just click on, then pull the trigger and it's pumping the grease into the bearing. You're not wasting half or more of the grease around the coupler.
