My sister and I decided to try something we named “The Pre-School Challenge” where you try to go to every fly point except for the Pokémon league before you start school. We both finished it today in around 10 hours! It was actually a really fun and interesting challenge for this game, I highly recommend it to anyone interested.
Oh okay. That's the trick to getting across that Gap. Pokemon kept falling, but I managed to catch the blue dog, the Purple Lizard, and a deerling. The deerling kicked the ass of my starter though. The most random Pokemon keeps showing up over there it's really weird.
I'm only an hour into the game, haven't even gone to the school for the first time yet, I'm having too much of a blast just wandering around. But now I'm hearing about sidequests? This game keeps sounding better and better!
Love the Pokedex is actually helpful now for Pokemon not caught yet rather than just for a quest to catch and show ya when done. That battle with pokemon on other side of cliffs neat trick =) Thx for the coverage!
Thanks Austin, I should be getting my preordered copy in the mail later on today. Now I’ll be prepared for my first playthrough! BTW which starter this time around is your favorite?
Hey Austin, would you mind sharing how you feel about the performance about the game? There have been comments and reviews that all conclude that the performance of the game was horrendous compared to previous games and counterparts, but you seemed rather satisfied by the game.
HTTYD is my favorite animated movie series, so i when i saw the mannerisms of Koraidon and Miraidon, i immediately loved it because they reminded me of Toothless!
I've been waiting for tips from you since you're the best for spoiler-free or minimum spoilers as much as possible content creator. My pre-order copy got delayed until Nov. 21 because of a storm so yeah. Watching your tips to ease the pain of more waiting some more
@austinjohnplays changing my switch settings > tv settings from 1080p to 720p actually cleaned up alot of the graphical problems and framerate, though it still looks not great it runs smoother.
I have NEVER played pokemon before so this was super helpful! The random sparkly pokemon with the crystals on their heads, what should I do with them? Battle or catch?
Advice, Playing the older games is a MUST! If this is your first poke game, It is very different from others, This is the first time pokemon has done a full open world. You can dip your toe by playing newer ones, And even then this games is MUCh different from sword and shield, but that one wasn't as good as others, The graphics for the other pokemon switch titles are a lot better so if they can merge the 2 it would be awesome, And THEN you can grab some Pre 3d games like pokemon black and white, pokemon ruby saphire, poke platinum, pokemon Heart gold etc. AND THEN you can see what it used to be like in original Pokemon Johto, pokemon blue and red 1997 etc. Play all the different ways, and if you play the really old ones, Trust me, even if you are used to the new versions graphics, After about 10 minutes of playing any pokemon game you will Not care and have a lot of fun, Each is very unique and guides you with the same fun, some of the fun of the older games was that it felt like they knew what the player was thinking and characters would mention things, The older versions are more personal.
Pokémon Violet just arrived 5 mins ago!!! Watching your latest video as I'm waiting for the download to complete. Thank you for the hard work and knowledge you provide to us. Austin is the best. It’s so so so so so so SO Awesome to see people in Austin’s community being happy and excited with this game! I’m loving it so far and I’ve barely even scratched the surface. The Reddit community (like always) is so negative and it upset me. This has really lifted me back up. I remember them being super negative about sword and shield though. That bummed me out at the time. But they’re my favourite games lol. I hope everyone carries on having fun! ❤
I mean, I don't visit the reddit but if their gripes are with how the game runs it is absolutely justified. There's no excuse for it to run this way and if people keep making excuses this series is never going to be what it should.
@@Joshua-xh6bm what it should be is fairly subjective though tbf. I’ve always thought the series was fine, like I said, Sword and Shield are my favourite games in the series and probably some of my favourite games fullstop. I haven’t really had any issues with how it runs either tbh (not far in to it at all though so maybe that’ll change) But if it’s something a massive amount of people are unhappy with then I’m sure they’ll fix it
I'm happy you mentioned the ride pokemon and Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon. I thought there was something familiar with some of the pokemon's expressions but I couldn't place it.
the games so cool. ive been exploring and catching some of my favourite pokemon before ive even gotten to my first gym yet. i wanted to do the water gym first and the barrier stopping me i just managed to jump around with mid air strafing on my ride pokemon. i find it SO cool how you can just go out and get yourself so many cool pokemon before going to do anything. it feels much more like being an actual pokemon trainer. ive already caught about 20 pokemon and i just dont know what im supposed to run in my team

I started the school stuff right away before I left the big town and I’m glad I did. Then anytime I saw more classes opened up would fly back and do them. I’ve passed my mid terms and glad I have! It’s a lot of fun and honestly some of the questions are a little challenging if I wasn’t paying attention.
This game has been the pokemon game I've gotten a shiny the fastest! Right after the lighthouse scene there it was a shiny tarountula! Love this game so far
Oh wow the info about catching Pokémon and the raising them above the badge cap but the still obey is top tier info, I was trying to rush to get some more badges but now I know I don’t have to worry about overleveling!
In the first area I went to the cliff to the left of the small village and fought riolu which accidentally allowed me to jump to area 4 before going to class lol
I actually started to freak out when Austin mentioned the how to train your dragon thing. I noticed before that Miraidon acted like toothless and I loved it because I'm also a big fan of httyd. I just think it's funny and cool how we thought the same thing
Glad yoy pointed out the huge variety of pokemon we can get before school. I did about 2 hours like that, poking around and exploring and it ended up with me catching a shiny magikarp on the beach. Been playing these games since before visible shinies and I never knew they were gold lmao. So used to the gen 2 freebie and I'd have never guessed they were gold.
The game was encouraging me to start the Treasure Hunt and I'm no I wanna go back to school. I had such a blast in the classes, getting to the know the teachers (way to blast down stereotypes with the Home Ec teacher, game freak, I love it!) And I truly loved reading all the books in the Entrance Hall. They completely enraptured my interest in what's to come and what I can't potentially find out there. Vast majority of the game is still completely unspoiled for me despite Facebook's best efforts. I am so invested in the mysteries of this game, all there is to see, and it's still take me hours to travel even half a mile cause every little path leads me on a wild tangent catching a ridiculous amount of Pokemon. I don't know what the hell I'm gonna do with my boxes, organizing them into a full form Dex is gonna be a nightmare and I don't know all the different possible forms yet so I'll probably have to reorganize AFTER I catch everything. RIP
That's so funny how the last thing you mentioned was the stakes. I just started playing Violet yesterday and was exploring that first area there and the stake caught my eye and obviously I tried to see if I can walk around to get to the cliff but realized I couldn't and it's been a question on my mind ever since and lo and behold Austin John mentions it in a early tips video 😂 thank you sir 😀
You weren’t kidding about how fast that metal-looking fish is. I did learn from trying to evade that if you jump before it gets to you, it does like a U-Turn and gives you time to flee.
same happened to me and my starter. everyone else learned moves, but my lvl 21 chonky croc only had his first move set even though that setting was off by default. which was weird, might have bugged out. when i learned you can go in a relearn moves, that was an extreme relief! i at first thought the pokedex entry was being faithful haha.
On my first play through I used that ledge jump to escape and I managed to reach all the pokestops before I got the mount. It is doable to reach all towns but would still not advise it
You can engage pokemon in battle on the edge of cliffs that you can't normally get to, and it will teleport the player there. I got to so many places where I shouldn't have been able to get to and leveled my pokemon into the 30s before I ever went to school. It has made the beginning of the game EXTREMELY easy lol.
I've barely started and similar to Legends: Arceus I'm quickly realizing that to enjoy this game properly, there's no point in being a completionist and exploring every part of the map. At least not until I beat it. Cuz this thing is HUGE.
Austin, I'm in love with Pokemon Scarlet. I can't wait till my daughter gets home from school so she can fire up Violet. There is so much stuff. They really put in the work on this game not even gonna lie. I did notice some performance issues like frame rate drops and the like but that's no big deal. I've not really had this much fun in a Pokemon game since OG Pokemon Pearl.

This is so awesome!! I’ve been avoiding spoilers like the plague but just started my playthrough and was very quickly like…hmmm let’s see if Austin has any tips cause this is A LOT. And low and behold you did. Thanks for always having my back with amazing helpful content that doesn’t make me feel like you’re playing the game for me!!! You are great at balancing tips with encouraging a player to have their own experience!!
Funny how the fps on Psyduck here at 17:04 is better than when you get closer to him at 17:09
I swear Austin is monster at making content. I so needed this guide for when I get my copy
My sister and I decided to try something we named “The Pre-School Challenge” where you try to go to every fly point except for the Pokémon league before you start school. We both finished it today in around 10 hours! It was actually a really fun and interesting challenge for this game, I highly recommend it to anyone interested.
I LOVE this new open world design, such a good step forward. improves replay-ability alot!
I just got a shiny rockruff whilst exploring on koraidon :) definitely worth exploring a bit before going to any gyms
I like that not every wild pokemon just want to fight like in PLA
I went over that gap (10:00) as soon as I came across it. And within twenty minutes of being able to explore I found and caught a shiny skiddo :D
Thank you for all your videos on Scarlet and Violet, they helped me choose which game I wanted
Oh okay. That's the trick to getting across that Gap. Pokemon kept falling, but I managed to catch the blue dog, the Purple Lizard, and a deerling. The deerling kicked the ass of my starter though. The most random Pokemon keeps showing up over there it's really weird.
I love how Austin goes “I wouldn’t advise… but you can do it.”
@7:23 I like how the Lechonk grabbed his buddy to come watch you
Lechonk just staring at the trainer while he peruses his Pokedex is oddly kinda cute.
The amount of hilarious jumps scares I’ve received when I realize a horde of Psyducks are just lurking behind me 😅😂
Just wait until you turn around to see a bunch of Paldean Tauros staring right at you. They'll even aggro you in front of Nurse Joy.
@@mr.mystere4999 🤣🤣🤣 I love this game
Just got a full odds shiny Rookidee while watching this! Thanks Austin for the shiny luck!!
I'm only an hour into the game, haven't even gone to the school for the first time yet, I'm having too much of a blast just wandering around. But now I'm hearing about sidequests? This game keeps sounding better and better!
Legit starting tonight after I get off work. Thanks for the great starter tips!
I went and caught everything before even finding the first pokemon centre, needless to say I'm liking the freedom
Hey Austin, would you mind sharing how you feel about the performance about the game? There have been comments and reviews that all conclude that the performance of the game was horrendous compared to previous games and counterparts, but you seemed rather satisfied by the game.
Nah Pokémon player are fine with none existent anti aliasing and they have been used to 20fps and framedrop. Not a big deal for Pokémon player
HTTYD is my favorite animated movie series, so i when i saw the mannerisms of Koraidon and Miraidon, i immediately loved it because they reminded me of Toothless!
Sadly, my game is still multiple states away from me and was just delayed due to weather
I've been waiting for tips from you since you're the best for spoiler-free or minimum spoilers as much as possible content creator. My pre-order copy got delayed until Nov. 21 because of a storm so yeah. Watching your tips to ease the pain of more waiting some more
If you can find a pincurchin, catch it. It carried me through most of early game (gyms, titan battles, ect…)
But how do I unlock more than 15 fps?
@austinjohnplays changing my switch settings > tv settings from 1080p to 720p actually cleaned up alot of the graphical problems and framerate, though it still looks not great it runs smoother.
I have NEVER played pokemon before so this was super helpful! The random sparkly pokemon with the crystals on their heads, what should I do with them? Battle or catch?
Battle for sure!
@@OfTheiAm thank you for this! I have completed the 3 stories in Scarlet now and I have bought myself pokemon pearl because it was on sale! X
@@OfTheiAm also I play stardew 🤣 the graphics won’t be a problem in the older games
Just so you know at 17:30 ish you forgot to blur the water starters second form (looks so dope) 🙏
Your positivity and excitement is getting me out of the funk I've been in about the performance issues. Just gonna enjoy the game and the mons now!
Pokémon Violet just arrived 5 mins ago!!! Watching your latest video as I'm waiting for the download to complete. Thank you for the hard work and knowledge you provide to us. Austin is the best. Please support him. Been watching his videos since Breath of the wild released along with every Pokemon game since! Thank you!
I haven’t really had any issues with how it runs either tbh (not far in to it at all though so maybe that’ll change) But if it’s something a massive amount of people are unhappy with then I’m sure they’ll fix it
Never thought I’d see the fast travel tower/highpoint mechanic in a Pokémon game 😂
Whenever I am about to start a new pkmn game these days I always come watch Mr. Plays break it down first because I know he wont spoil anything and I learn so much from these videos! A sincere mahalo Austin!!!
Bought my Switch and this game last month. I am loving it. It has been more than 10 years without playing new Pokémon games.
All I wrote down was change the text speed to FAST haha.
I did watch the full video tho. Thanks, Austin!
In the first area I went to the cliff to the left of the small village and fought riolu which accidentally allowed me to jump to area 4 before going to class lol
Just started my Violet play through, and this is helpful! Love AustinJohn’s videos
Ghost Tera-type Slaking...
My friends have left me...
Also an imposter ditto at a 3 star raid...so...that's neat...
You’re the best. I did a mix of going farther than I “should” and advancing the story.
Hey, you did the same thing later in the video hahaha. Good call out.
