I like the little detail that he starts hearing her voice in the distorted way when he first heard this world's version of the human language. It's like he truly has stopped listening to what she is saying and translating it in his head. It really shows that he has stopped considering her as a sentient being to understand instead he sees her as an animal.
Bruh, it gets crazier as the story goes on. I think the best one was in a future chapter of the WN: SPOILER He gets into a fight with an apostle of god. They escape to where one of the heroes are. The hero looks at them with pity and tells them to hurry up and talk. A few minutes later, Makoto turns the apostle into a pincushion from a different freaking country. She couldn't be revived because he killed her soul.
Out of all the anime I've seen, this is the first scene that made me think of this quote. “There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”
His regret helped him grow. Not into something twisted and insane, but into someone who finally understands the situation he is in. The scene right after was him freaking out and breaking a little was also terrific. From what he just did and the situation that happened. A valuable lesson to learn.
yea the reality of hyumans not caring about him and his friends has led him to be smarter and less naive so now his self awareness is better really liked this episode
that bit about him freaking out though, that wasn't of his own volition he would realize. It's a part of the blessings that "Bug" had placed on her Hyumans, causing whomever kills one of them to involuntarily cry: no matter how justified or despicable the deceased Hyuman really was.
I've always enjoyed scenes like this, where the hero, known for there kindness, has been pushed so far that he tosses his compassion away for the justice or revenge. There's something so . . . humanly dark about it.
It's a bit indulgent, almost self-insert fantasy in a sense. These scenes resonate because almost everyone has experienced being pushed close to, or over, their breaking point. So scenes like this play out a bit like wish fulfilment, where the character we empathize with gets to act out their frustration in ways we never could. Knowing this, I'd say there's a fine line between such scenes (really I guess it could be called a trope at this point) being well executed, or being inserted for cheap gratification. When they're done well they're very satisfying to watch, but there are examples out there of it not being done well at all. Those tend to feel, to me at least, very cringey to watch.
Just started to read the novel... This is going to happen more often. I'm really excited that it won't get censored as other animes with mature narratives.
The series went from "Konosuba" to "Re-Zero" pretty fast. o.O Jokes aside the scene was very well done, Makoto felt like a totally different character.
the re-zero feeling is sorta the real tone of the series, a lot of the cliche early content is more or less to establish the world building and setting and while there is still comedic moments in the future the true nature of this series is pretty dark overall
@@YukiFubuki. I know, I was just saying it to make it easy to understand, the story can be interpreted as a "growth journey" for Makoto, where everything starts in an innocent, simple and funny way to become more dark and serious as the trip from Makoto continues.
Probably the best scene in the entire series. What made this scene not only great, but also both frightening and unsettling is that the series doesn't tease or even lead up to this at any point, but then hits us with this full change of Makoto's character. The better part? He didn't do the typical Shonen anger style, no screams, no going power or what not, not even a punching the wall or sobbing like a loon. No, instead he was calm, calculated, collected, and focused on his main goal, and that was killing the main cause of his current problem with no remorse and pure joy of seeing their suffering. What I learned too is that mothing is more frightening than a person who is clam and serious when they are furious and angered to the bitter core.
i think its hinted at a little in other scenes when he's gotten angry/put in a foul mood, like when mio attacked him and when the he found out the one chick looked like his friend

Much later on in the story there are glimpses of alternative worlds, a what ifs if you may. I won't spoil what could have happened but Makoto we have in the story is a sweet cinnamon roll compared to possible alternatives
The humans in this world are flawed, in many ways they are more flawed then humans on Earth. In her desire for "beauty" "Bug" made her humans beautiful and only focused on that and created a culture where only the beautiful and those that fit her ideal world are cared for (and even then that's little) everyone else? Meant to be swept away if they cannot serve her goals and in turn gave "humans" in this world a distorted/twisted set of values and little to none empathy for others.
There're clearly good humans he can get along with, no question about it. But indeed, over all humanity is taught the worst values when they can't even take handful of generousity without taking off the hand itself.
He set the greedy Hyumans up for failure by housing them within a few minutes walking distance of an unsecured WMD store. He said as much later in the episode when taking action to properly quarantine future outside adventurers until their nature can be verified as well as to secure WMDs from public access.
@@baltakatei Nobody thought that they’d do something that mind-numbingly stupid. If he really set them up for failure, then this would’ve been predicted and that child wouldn’t have been in danger.
If everyone were perfect and didn't make mistakes, no one would learn anything. Beaides, he probably didn't account for the hyumans doing something that dumb and reckless. Apparently he learns so well from this experience that he gets a little discriminatory towards hyumans because he knows they can't be trusted.

I love the amount of detail that they put into Makoto's movements during this scene, you could just tell from his walk alone the sheer amount of cold rage that he was emanating.

1:00 aside from her inevitable death this scene is my favorite here because remember; she doesn't know what he's saying, to her he may as well be speaking gibberish but she recognizes the expression. because that is the expression of: "Pray to whatever God you believe in. Because you're about to meet them"
That's the smoothest walking animation I've seen in anime, definitely made the scene way more scarier and badass. (I wanted to add this, Makoto's body swaying side to side with his head and eyes devoid of humanity fixed on her was what really made this scene more intimidating)

This was truly a badass scene. The setting, the expression, and THAT WALK! Man was about no games. Creeping out the shadows like the angel of death himself.
It just never gets old when a greedy character finally realizes that they decided to double cross somebody who isn't known for their leniency against people they love. Although I kind of wish that he let her suffer more.
This gives me rimuru vibes Makoto has always been kind to others, and hes always hidden his power And hes always given them the benefit of the doubt But just like rimuru, he put too much trust humans And when he realized his mistake, he just cracked and killed with no remorse Just like rimuru Both him and rimuru are godlike, but always hide it Always being kind and friendly, always giving the impression that they are weak Because they dont want to hurt or make people scared But when they massacred rimurus village, he murdered ALL OF THEM Because he realized his compassion was what got his people killed He realized that its foolish to trust humans and give them benefit of the doubt Both him and Makoto were reborn into a society where they were able to see the side of the oppressed But because they were both humans before, they had faith that the humans wouldnt do anything wrong But Makoto and Rimuru both learned the hard way. It made them realize that humans are monsters that need to be destroyed And when you anger a GOD, be ready for JUDGMENT

Probably my favorite part about this is that she has no idea what he's saying since he's not speaking hyuman, and yet she still unsheathes her sword in preparation of an attack. In that single moment his bloodlust becomes so great that it impacts her on a level that transcends direct communication.
The echo of his footsteps... The even tone in his voice... The darkness that wrapped around them... This scene was absolutely perfect. He wanted equality so bad but that unrelenting hatred towards the goddess, hyumans, and himself really broke the mold there
I honestly didn't think it would be so faithful to the source material. Especially considering how light-hearted the animation style and storytelling was. I'm so happy to be wrong.
I like the way he speaks with only the side of his mouth moving, showing teeth in a blatant aggressive way. Allied to his calm and voice, it's chilling. He's scary.
Unfortunately too many people in that world take kindness for granted. Or rather they seem to think being kind means being a pushover with no consequences on pushing said "pushover"
0:36 to 0:49 is the most final boss demon king walk cycle I have ever witnessed in anime, and I've been watching for like 12 years now. The initial position. The slow, deliberate lowering of his hand and the turn to the camera. The face. The pacing of his voice and tone. Unlike pretty much every other villain or "demon mode" hero, this is one of those few times when every single action screams *"DEATH!"*
You could totally see this coming, but it was still amazing to see it unfold. Makoto has always had that kind of intensity to him. He showed it against Tomoe, he showed it when fighting Mio, and he showed it here. Those two had the ability to actually survive it. This person was a weak fool who pushed her luck too far. Makoto was mentally worn out already and then got hit by all this. It was shocking in a way, but satisfying as well.

I love when main characters do stuff like this. I'm so tired of the shy, but apparently insanely powerful MC who hates fighting, but for some reason always gets the final attack.
There is no girl to stop him after all, because Tomoe and Mio might actually help him do it, especially Mio she doesn't feel anything about killing people, if Makoto order her to massacre one or two countries she will do it without thinking, Tomoe on the other hand depend on the situation though, she loves justice! XD
I like how this is one of the first moments where the cracks to start to show with him, I’m sure everyone who’s read the novel will know what I mean. It’ll take forever for the anime to reach my favorite part if they continue it, but man it’d be so cool to see.
Even with the throat stab, it would've taken a long time for her to bleed out if he went straight for the throat, that spot contains the vocal chords and avoids the arteries, so she would've bled out without even being able to call for help, which would've taken probably a good 30 minutes of agony at least.
You forgot he cut off her hands. So it would only take a few minutes since she is bleeding profusely from that. He basically just silenced her. I'm not sure if he went ahead and finished her off because I haven't seen this episode fully yet.
@@zarynt1089 The body tenses to cut off the blood supply to areas that are bleeding from major wounds, iirc, it happens right around the time the body enters shock, which would buy her some time for more pain.
The best part in my eyer is that she couldnt understand him since he speaks demi human languages but not human, yet she drew her sword on him knowing his intentions from his look
She was murdered by his rings which is inderictly is his own power those rings are probably worth a full original tomoe easily in mana which goes to show how strong the fragment is not how weak to block it to that degree
@@ambulancekun3142 Actually the ones at fault were the dwarves, the anime didn't explain this well, but the place the adventurers stole those items from was a warehouse used to store items the dwarves deemed as "failure" and were marked to be disposed later like the rings, the problem is that the dwarves didn't put even a lock in the warehouse or even a barrier, anyone could enter even a kid, they had lots of weapons and dangerous items there but didn't take any precaution against theft.

Not collected..he didn't understand what he has done afterwards. It's more like his true self came out. We all try to hide our real selfs by making jokes and fooling around for those we love. But once we lose them, we lose ourselves, sometimes for only a moment, other times forever.

Yep Tomoe supported his actions here. Well of course she would. That blonde chick basically killed a part of her and was going to take advantage of Makoto.
No one would have stopped him, except certain individuals outside(heroes for example), which would have no way of interrupting him. Perhaps the goddess, which would have been indeed infuriating.
This scene was like a breath of fresh air, it turned the show from a happy/kid looking mood, to one that makes the heart skip a beat. I love it, I need more of this
To be fair, this is far from what this girl deserves, in fact this is a mercy compared to what she did so I personally see it as completely justifiable.
The scariest and most unique part is that she couldn’t understand a word of what he was saying. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a piece of media, anime or otherwise, where the climactic monologue of a character couldn’t even be understood by the person being spoken to.
Sorrow, anguish, and misery... all of them wallowing in the silent footsteps of this man in mourning. May God have mercy on the souls of those who have brought undeserving agony upon his heart...

@@baltakatei Nobody thought that they’d do something that mind-numbingly stupid. If he really set them up for failure, then this would’ve been predicted and that child wouldn’t have been in danger.
If everyone were perfect and didn't make mistakes, no one would learn anything. Beaides, he probably didn't account for the hyumans doing something that dumb and reckless. Apparently he learns so well from this experience that he gets a little discriminatory towards hyumans because he knows they can't be trusted.

I love the amount of detail that they put into Makoto's movements during this scene, you could just tell from his walk alone the sheer amount of cold rage that he was emanating.
I didn't expect this tbh, what a tangent of his kindness.

That's the smoothest walking animation I've seen in anime, definitely made the scene way more scarier and badass.
(I wanted to add this, Makoto's body swaying side to side with his head and eyes devoid of humanity fixed on her was what really made this scene more intimidating)

This was truly a badass scene. The setting, the expression, and THAT WALK! Man was about no games. Creeping out the shadows like the angel of death himself.
It just never gets old when a greedy character finally realizes that they decided to double cross somebody who isn't known for their leniency against people they love. Although I kind of wish that he let her suffer more.

Because he realized his compassion was what got his people killed
He realized that its foolish to trust humans and give them benefit of the doubt
Both him and Makoto were reborn into a society where they were able to see the side of the oppressed
But because they were both humans before, they had faith that the humans wouldnt do anything wrong
But Makoto and Rimuru both learned the hard way. It made them realize that humans are monsters that need to be destroyed
And when you anger a GOD, be ready for JUDGMENT

Probably my favorite part about this is that she has no idea what he's saying since he's not speaking hyuman, and yet she still unsheathes her sword in preparation of an attack. In that single moment his bloodlust becomes so great that it impacts her on a level that transcends direct communication.

The echo of his footsteps... The even tone in his voice... The darkness that wrapped around them... This scene was absolutely perfect. He wanted equality so bad but that unrelenting hatred towards the goddess, hyumans, and himself really broke the mold there

0:36 to 0:49 is the most final boss demon king walk cycle I have ever witnessed in anime, and I've been watching for like 12 years now. The initial position. The slow, deliberate lowering of his hand and the turn to the camera. The face. The pacing of his voice and tone. Unlike pretty much every other villain or "demon mode" hero, this is one of those few times when every single action screams *"DEATH!"*
You could totally see this coming, but it was still amazing to see it unfold. Makoto has always had that kind of intensity to him. He showed it against Tomoe, he showed it when fighting Mio, and he showed it here.
Those two had the ability to actually survive it. This person was a weak fool who pushed her luck too far. Makoto was mentally worn out already and then got hit by all this. It was shocking in a way, but satisfying as well.
This scene made him look truly evil and badass, even though he was just delivering justice.
Basically, the darkest part of us humans, our desire for judgement.

They actually managed to make a scene of a boy killing a mosquito look dramatic and cool. It's crazy how anime can make anything look awesome!

I like how this is one of the first moments where the cracks to start to show with him, I’m sure everyone who’s read the novel will know what I mean. It’ll take forever for the anime to reach my favorite part if they continue it, but man it’d be so cool to see.

Even with the throat stab, it would've taken a long time for her to bleed out if he went straight for the throat, that spot contains the vocal chords and avoids the arteries, so she would've bled out without even being able to call for help, which would've taken probably a good 30 minutes of agony at least.
You forgot he cut off her hands. So it would only take a few minutes since she is bleeding profusely from that. He basically just silenced her. I'm not sure if he went ahead and finished her off because I haven't seen this episode fully yet.

The body tenses to cut off the blood supply to areas that are bleeding from major wounds, iirc, it happens right around the time the body enters shock, which would buy her some time for more pain.
She pretty much died seconds after that stab. It definitely wasn't slow, but he made it hurt.

The best part in my eyer is that she couldnt understand him since he speaks demi human languages but not human, yet she drew her sword on him knowing his intentions from his look

She was murdered by his rings which is inderictly is his own power those rings are probably worth a full original tomoe easily in mana which goes to show how strong the fragment is not how weak to block it to that degree

@@ambulancekun3142 Actually the ones at fault were the dwarves, the anime didn't explain this well, but the place the adventurers stole those items from was a warehouse used to store items the dwarves deemed as "failure" and were marked to be disposed later like the rings, the problem is that the dwarves didn't put even a lock in the warehouse or even a barrier, anyone could enter even a kid, they had lots of weapons and dangerous items there but didn't take any precaution against theft.

No one would have stopped him, except certain individuals outside(heroes for example), which would have no way of interrupting him. Perhaps the goddess, which would have been indeed infuriating.

I started the anime after watching this scene. finished all 12 episodes in one night.
The scariest and most unique part is that she couldn’t understand a word of what he was saying. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a piece of media, anime or otherwise, where the climactic monologue of a character couldn’t even be understood by the person being spoken to.
Sorrow, anguish, and misery... all of them wallowing in the silent footsteps of this man in mourning.
May God have mercy on the souls of those who have brought undeserving agony upon his heart...
