I wasn't allowed to play video games after 6 pm (I was in kindergarten/first grade when I started playing), so I remember my brothers sneaking me out of my room so that I could watch them play at night. My first K.K. Slider show was so magical to me, something I will never forget. Now I kinda want to find my Gamecube and play again...
I used to wait patiently in bed for like 30 min after my bedtime, then sneakily get out of bed, put clothes around the cracks of my door to seal in the light, turn on my tv, turn the brightness and volume all the way down, then play for hours until I couldn't stay up any longer. Only occassionally would I get caught, but my parents weren't too strict about it. They usually also spent their nights gaming, so they probably understood how much I just enjoyed the game.

I wish they'd make a DLC for New Horizons that let you change the soundtrack to one from a previous game. I don't know how feasible it is to do, but I'd buy "AC GameCube Music Pack" in a heartbeat.
I actually skipped school with my older brother once back in 8th grade when this game first came out to play. And my Mom, who also plays, totally let us.
Imagine if real life was like this, you are just walking outside and you just constantly hear music coming from somewhere unknown. Its just there and the only way to stop it is to press start somewhere and then just save. Then you end up in the sky just looking down at your town...
Love the newer versions of animal crossing games, but I don’t think any will hold the same amount of excitement, possibility and mystery that the original did. Yes it’s because I was a child when I played it, plus it was the first video game I ever played, but I also think a lot of effort went into making the world feel alive. Lots of small weird details in the game, strange items you can find, more events and holidays (the sports festival!) Way more villager dialogues than any of the other games, more villagers in general living in your town, all whose personalities were very distinct (I miss when they could be mean to you) and of course, this music! Which had so much character! I miss the days where I would just play this game for hours. As much as I like designing and customizing things, I think the newer games focus way more on that than on creating a distinct world with such deep atmosphere. I’m less about curating my perfect town and more about exploring what the game has decided to give to me. I wish someday this game will be remastered for switch. But that doesn’t seem likely to happen :-/
I absolutely love the original game, but so much of this is just nostalgia and not necessarily true. There’s basically the same number of events between AC and NH, but NH’s are kind of more involved for the majority holidays. There are more lines of unique dialogue in NH, however, the personality types aren’t as strong as they were in AC and not as distinctive which is a bad thing IMO but it’s by no means a deal breaker. As for atmosphere, NH has it in droves, it’s literally no different. You can customize your island or not, it’s entirely up to you, and that’s great. It’s literally the best of the both worlds. If you don’t want to use it, and want to just ‘explore what the game gives you,’ there’s nothing stopping you from doing that. I love AC to death, I’ve put thousands of hours into as a kid/young teen but NH is objectively better in so many ways. The only thing I like better about AC is the stronger personality types and maybe the soundtrack.
New Horizons is the end of the franchise for me. No matter how good a game is, if it misses the mark on what it's genre is without making a niche, it's a medicore game for such a polished franchise that used to understand slice of life before deciding that our generation doesn't matter. And the new one likes how the game is. Why? Not sure. I tried my damnest to like it and in the end it made me hate it. Learned a lesson. Series die hard when nostalgia is thrown out the window for some younger kids to terrain morph like Gods. We don't want that. We would never have, they didn't think about that? Got it. Shows what they think of loyal fans to the franchise for over 20 years.
@@BillionairesArentYourFriends i agree... the terrain was too much for me. as polished as it is, it did nothing for me but push me away. granted i will admit this is a very unpopular opinion and for that i will say i'm just waiting for harvest moon wonderful life remaster
It’s ridiculous what this music does for me. When my son was a fussy newborn I would cuddle him to sleep in the middle of the night and play the game to entertain myself and have some instrumental music for him. It was a bond between me and my 7yo daughter, and AC still is now that she’s in her mid-20’s! This takes me back to those times and gives me warm fuzzies. I listen to it when I’m stressed at work, which is often. The whole thing is a beautiful and fun bop with SO many memories attached to it! We still have the GameCube and our two original storage cartridges and fire it up occasionally to check on our 18yo towns. 🥰

But let’s be real...why is it solely THE PLAYERS responsibility to take care of the town lol Tortimer should hire a groundskeeper.
I remember the first time me and mom came across Wisp. It was New Years Eve, and mom was heading back to her house to save when we were interupted by this bodiless voice. A little unnerved, we scooted around until we found him. After doing his favor and getting the reward, we made it a point to stay up late every few nights to see him.
Best soundtrack in the series, imo. By the way, to those unaware that might be reading this, “Population: Growing!” was never a part of the original title as localized here in the US. It was a tagline, not a subtitle. Edit: I forgot to add the colon.
My favourite was always the 7 pm music. The sun is starting to set and the music was accompanied by my character's footsteps as she ran to her next objective.
It's weird. I don't think I ever listened to the night time music all that much past 9 PM. Since the shops were closed and most of the animals were going to bed, I never played that late...
I also loved the simplicity, feeling like you've lived in the town all your life and every location was a nostalgic memory feeling. the image for this video is so cool. love that it seems to have been an official wallpaper from the animal crossing website at some point. for thse interested: take a screenshot of this video and reverse image search it, and you should be able to find higher quality versions of the image. thats what i did
8 PM reminds me of Saturday nights as a kid and my dad and I would play so we could see KK Slider perform and eat pizza. I got him a Switch for his 60th birthday this year and AC:NH so we can play together. :3
At 2 am are we at a cabana club? Also everyone says 3 am is unsettling but it sounds more jazzy to me with the bass coming in later on in the song. And another thing, 10 am has the same background as 9 am.
My mom used to play this game with me when I was growing up. She would send letters and play with the interior decorating. She passed away last year and the Save Your Game song just hits a different way now.
This animal crossing has the best soundtrack. I remember one time my sister traded in our acpg to GameStop to get soul caliber 2. I was the angriest 7 yr old. I eventually got the game back and on her file used the resetti music cheat code for revenge
I guess I played around 3 PM the most as a kid because that's the ac music I remember the most. Original ac was one of the first games I played but I never got an SD card so every time I wanted to play the game one day, I couldn't save my progress, so every time I restarted a new save file I'd get farther into the game. I really just loved that game and roaming around in that world. I never got to play it with an SD card, but I plan to one day. I never got to play New Leaf either, only Wild World, and I'm thankful I have ACNH to play now, too!
Thank you so much for posting this! I've also immensely enjoyed reading everyone's stories about playing this game as a child. Animal crossing nostalgia is very very specific, and it warms my heart to hear this music again
As a kid I've never really played past 8pm and I thought I played the whole night. After wacthing this I stayed up all night and listen to each music piece it was glorious.
I think I was in third grade when I first saw the AC commercials on TV I begged my parents to buy me the game. Damn... This music brings back so much nostalgia. I didn't even play any of the other AC games after this one, because... Why? Why even bother trying to play a sequel when you know it will never live up to how great the first one was? And I don't mean that to come across as disrespectful to the rest of the franchise, because I bought into the hype of ACNH and I'm not disappointed. At the end of the day, the essence of the original Animal Crossing will NEVER be surpassed. Truly a Nintendo classic.
I just realised that in all of the Animal Crossing games the nighttime music is way better than the daytime music. In AC GC 2 AM is just... amazing And 3 AM is really relaxing too.
This game was well known for its soundtrack being rather odd, especially the hourly themes. If I was actually playing this game I probably won't hear anything past 11pm but the middle of the night themes are really eerie. 11pm and 12am especially. Imagine hearing this on your island in New Horizons.
@@chickpea Yeah! These days Tom Nook literally gives you a place to stay, doesn't ask for interest, lets you pay at your own pace, and is generally a chill guy. To be fair, in the original Gamecube version he would literally insist on expanding your house whether you wanted or not, thereby forcing debt on you, if I remember correctly.
@@mkx27e He also used to donate to poor children, and he was a sweetheart to Sable from the Able Sisters. He is honestly one of my favorite characters!
This will always be the game that feels like home to me. Countless hours sunk into this game just meandering, paying off my house, and waking up early to go to the aerobics during the summer.
Listening to the 9 PM music again makes me wish the New Horizons prologue music was a remix of one of the hourly songs from the first Animal Crossing. I mean, if the 9 PM music in this video was modernized in the New Horizons style, that would be so chill for an island you're just getting started with, right?
Did you ever play at night and get bored of having no one to hang out with so you changed the time to the afternoon? I couldn’t stand having no one outside to talk to… it was creepy in a sort of way.
The music in New Horizons just doesn’t fit at all. If the town tune didn’t play each hour then I wouldn’t know an hour had passed, each soundtrack is so similar.
same tho. acnh, I avoid 2pm like the plague, but none of the songs are really good in my opinion.. new horizons music doesn't even come close to this soundtrack in quality or creativity. I would be very excited if they updated to allow us to use previous hourly soundtracks in new horizons.
@@angelic.angel_ if I understand correctly the N64 version was in Japan not anywhere else that I've heard of... I'd love to play it too bc I've had and played all the others... even the awful Amiibo festival game 🤣
That 2am music brought me back to playing this game at that time or time travelling and thinking that there absolutely needs to be something to do in town other than talking to two villagers and waking up the ones who fell asleep outside and I go out looking for trouble 🤣
I truly, truly feel so bad for anyone who didn't get to play this on the Gamecube as a kid at least a little bit. Such great memories of my sister and I sharing a town and talking about all the funny and cool stuff we encountered playing back then. Haven't tried New Horizons because, well, it's a kid's game but I'm definitely gonna get it for her daughter when she's a little bit older.
I played the original ac when I was 5, my game was set to 12 hours ahead of me and I didn’t know how to time travel, so I would get up extra early or get on in the evening so I could find my animal friends. The early morning and evening songs are so nostalgic 🖤
There better be an update or in the next AC game an option to select music throughout the series and swap it in for the new music. Maybe they could remix it a tad, but keep the main bits.
I love how they tried to match genres with the moments of the day. I tried to describe my feelings about the themes. Opening : Jazzy Samba 12AM : Ghostly theme with Congos and bells ( preparations for a night out ) 1 AM : Techno muzak ( let's go to the club ) 2 AM : Brass Samba party ! ( Enjoying the club / party ) 3 AM : Downtempo break xylo and heavy bass theme ( getting a bit tired ) 4 AM : Slower Trip Hop with xylo and trumpet ( Still awake ? Night is mysterious, better not to walk alone ) 5 AM : Slow guitar and xylo jazz ( really tired, oh the sun is already rising ) 6 AM : Broken-beat Piano theme ( early birds are waking up ) 7 AM : Slowed-down deep house ( my morning routine ) 8 AM : Rustic flute and violin ballade ( a great day is rising ) 9AM : midtempo techno with weird synth ( time to get physical ) 10AM : Ska theme on synth ( no hurry it's the morning ) 11 AM : Broken-beat multi-instrument theme ( need a break ) 12 AM : Lazy reggae xylo and bass guitar ( Let's have lunch ) 1 PM : Cat accordion breakbeat ( post lunch sleepies and coffee time ) 2PM : mid tempo electronica ballade ( back to work ! ) 3PM : weird Bass fusion broken beat ( the rush in the afternoon ) 4PM : Reggae flute theme ( recess time ) 5 PM : Lazy Bossa Nova ( call it a day ) 6PM : Disco-House whistling theme ( going out with friends ) 7PM : steel pan Caribbean theme ( commute. I dream about an exotic place ) 8PM : Ghostly waltz ( night is falling ) 9PM : chill RnB Guitar ( let's eat outside / a date at the restaurant ) 10PM : festive waltz ( hanging out on a festive evening ) 11PM : minimalistic percussion ( time to go to bed ) Saving title : Lullaby
I miss this game so much I really hope that they come out with a good one for the switch (aka. I only bought the thing because I heard that animal crossing was coming to the system) lol

@@BillionairesArentYourFriends True lol. I stopped playing it a long time ago. They fcked up big time smh.
3 PM is my favorite, the piano notes hits u differently
the image for this video is so cool. love that it seems to have been an official wallpaper from the animal crossing website at some point. for thse interested: take a screenshot of this video and reverse image search it, and you should be able to find higher quality versions of the image. thats what i did
nice

8 PM reminds me of Saturday nights as a kid and my dad and I would play so we could see KK Slider perform and eat pizza. I got him a Switch for his 60th birthday this year and AC:NH so we can play together. :3
I feel like crying. This game got me though so much.
if u like the Animal Crossing franchise, can u take a second for visit my channel please? ◡̈
Man, to everyone who grew up with this, I mean like during the 00s, doesn’t getting old suck?
Yes, but it's got its perks.
I'm very sorry for your loss.
5 AM is so smooth
This animal crossing has the best soundtrack. I remember one time my sister traded in our acpg to GameStop to get soul caliber 2. I was the angriest 7 yr old. I eventually got the game back and on her file used the resetti music cheat code for revenge
i mean in all fairness Soul Calibur 2 is an absolute banger of a game-not quite comparable to ACGC but still
Man this takes me back to my childhood... ❤️
This is absolutely amazing. This game was a very large part of my childhood. Thank you.
I never got to play New Leaf either, only Wild World, and I'm thankful I have ACNH to play now, too!
it came out i Australia before eu, I know because I imported it :) happy day
the best game ever.. one of the first I played. so nostalgic and the animation was perfect! the opening is so beautiful 🥺
AND 1PM ROWR
Thank you so much for posting this! I've also immensely enjoyed reading everyone's stories about playing this game as a child. Animal crossing nostalgia is very very specific, and it warms my heart to hear this music again
As a kid I've never really played past 8pm and I thought I played the whole night. After wacthing this I stayed up all night and listen to each music piece it was glorious.
I know most the PM's very well. 😅
Yes I'm with you nothing beats the original
Agreed
if u like the Animal Crossing franchise, can u take a second for visit my channel please? ◡̈
I just realised that in all of the Animal Crossing games the nighttime music is way better than the daytime music. In AC GC 2 AM is just... amazing
And 3 AM is really relaxing too.
Same with wild world!
And 1 am is just weird as hell in this game, I like it. My fav 1 am theme will forever be City Folk's tho
Yay! Someone else who enjoys 3am as well! That and 4am are my favorite midnight tracks. 3am is excellent ambient noise.
Daytime usually forgettable
@@timohara7717 you made me remember my comment 😭
This game was well known for its soundtrack being rather odd, especially the hourly themes. If I was actually playing this game I probably won't hear anything past 11pm but the middle of the night themes are really eerie. 11pm and 12am especially. Imagine hearing this on your island in New Horizons.
Man, 8AM & 9AM are the most nostalgic for me. Memories of me and my brother playing this game. 😭
Growing up sucks
The 2 dislikes are Mr. Resetti and.. Tom Nook
BunnyBuns3000 AJ and Blathers
People shit on Tom Nook way to much ahah
@@chickpea Yeah! These days Tom Nook literally gives you a place to stay, doesn't ask for interest, lets you pay at your own pace, and is generally a chill guy.
To be fair, in the original Gamecube version he would literally insist on expanding your house whether you wanted or not, thereby forcing debt on you, if I remember correctly.
@@mkx27e He also used to donate to poor children, and he was a sweetheart to Sable from the Able Sisters. He is honestly one of my favorite characters!
or people who don't like the cover art being used as a subtitle (hint: this game has no subtitle, it's simply "Animal Crossing").
9AM, 2PM, 5PM really hits me 😭
tear comes to eye everytime I listen.
My new favourite thing to do is connect my phone to my Alexa and play the OST of older Animal Crossing games while I'm playing New Horizons >:D
Thank you so much for uploading this, it really brought me back to the good ol times
someone lame probably: "no one wakes up at 3 am just to listen to animal crossing music!"
me: *"OH BOY 3 AM!"*
Hell yeah! I love 3am! My favorite midnight track.
[12AM music hits]
My childhood self: "Time for degenerate shit"
I listened to the whole thing... but the save your game after 11 pm... that one hit me really hard.
What kinda world do we live in where I can't listen to this fine music on spotify 🤧😩
And finding the winter versions of the songs is even harder :(
This will always be the game that feels like home to me.
I would time travel in the game too. I always went to 9AM since that was when the store opened.
So now I'm 34 and sometimes when doing work around my real house I hum these themes. How fast life goes by ... bought this game back in high school.
Who else is listening to this soundtrack while playing Animal crossing new horizons because the new soundtrack is lame just me ok
I don't think the new soundtrack is lame, I like both but yeah I was listening to this while playing new horizons
The music in New Horizons just doesn’t fit at all. If the town tune didn’t play each hour then I wouldn’t know an hour had passed, each soundtrack is so similar.
@@Hazel-ro4sm Well i can tell them all apart and imo theyre really energetic and fun sounding
same tho.
acnh, I avoid 2pm like the plague, but none of the songs are really good in my opinion.. new horizons music doesn't even come close to this soundtrack in quality or creativity. I would be very excited if they updated to allow us to use previous hourly soundtracks in new horizons.
me too. New Horizons music is super lame. it all sounds like generic guitar music.
Keeping track of every time I come here!
4/3/21 - listening in my online class
5/3/21 - in class again lol
Hope you returned countless times after :)
I remember listening to this when I was in high school!
When I was young, the strange animal sound in the background always made me wonder if the Walrus that ate the fruit was in my town at that time.
Some very interesting music considering I only play Wild World and City Folk.
Mint Videos I've played wild world, city folk, and new leaf
I've played every single one lol
@@angelic.angel_ Even the N64 one? I've played all of them
@@Kirodev Havent been able to play the N64 one, but I've played the Gamecube one up till New Leaf
@@angelic.angel_ if I understand correctly the N64 version was in Japan not anywhere else that I've heard of... I'd love to play it too bc I've had and played all the others... even the awful Amiibo festival game 🤣
who in here is getting hyped for new horizons!!!!!
The joy that is the 1pm music
1 PM just hits differently with those "meows"
That 2am music brought me back to playing this game at that time or time travelling and thinking that there absolutely needs to be something to do in town other than talking to two villagers and waking up the ones who fell asleep outside and I go out looking for trouble 🤣
playing wild world and listening to population growing music
I truly, truly feel so bad for anyone who didn't get to play this on the Gamecube as a kid at least a little bit. Such great memories of my sister and I sharing a town and talking about all the funny and cool stuff we encountered playing back then. Haven't tried New Horizons because, well, it's a kid's game but I'm definitely gonna get it for her daughter when she's a little bit older.
My favorite has always been 10PM, it's the best
Twig Man Yeah, I like it too. It sounds kind of the same style of one of the songs in New Leaf, doesn't it?
8PM feels like the intro to 10PM
I like it cuz it has some accordion In it
Ikr! It sounds like a waltz!
I played the original ac when I was 5, my game was set to 12 hours ahead of me and I didn’t know how to time travel, so I would get up extra early or get on in the evening so I could find my animal friends. The early morning and evening songs are so nostalgic 🖤
In my opinion, Gamecube has the best day themes while New Leaf has the best night themes
I love the main theme it’s so catchy like BUM BUMBUM BA BA BA BAAAA!
IKR AHABSBS
you nailed it
3 am has like a halftime shuffle thing going on which sounds awesome. Also, 4pm sounds the best in my opinion
There better be an update or in the next AC game an option to select music throughout the series and swap it in for the new music. Maybe they could remix it a tad, but keep the main bits.
the soundtrack i wanted exactly thanks so much!!!
I love how they tried to match genres with the moments of the day. I tried to describe my feelings about the themes.
Opening : Jazzy Samba
12AM : Ghostly theme with Congos and bells ( preparations for a night out )
1 AM : Techno muzak ( let's go to the club )
2 AM : Brass Samba party ! ( Enjoying the club / party )
3 AM : Downtempo break xylo and heavy bass theme ( getting a bit tired )
4 AM : Slower Trip Hop with xylo and trumpet ( Still awake ? Night is mysterious, better not to walk alone )
5 AM : Slow guitar and xylo jazz ( really tired, oh the sun is already rising )
6 AM : Broken-beat Piano theme ( early birds are waking up )
7 AM : Slowed-down deep house ( my morning routine )
8 AM : Rustic flute and violin ballade ( a great day is rising )
9AM : midtempo techno with weird synth ( time to get physical )
10AM : Ska theme on synth ( no hurry it's the morning )
11 AM : Broken-beat multi-instrument theme ( need a break )
12 AM : Lazy reggae xylo and bass guitar ( Let's have lunch )
1 PM : Cat accordion breakbeat ( post lunch sleepies and coffee time )
2PM : mid tempo electronica ballade ( back to work ! )
3PM : weird Bass fusion broken beat ( the rush in the afternoon )
4PM : Reggae flute theme ( recess time )
5 PM : Lazy Bossa Nova ( call it a day )
6PM : Disco-House whistling theme ( going out with friends )
7PM : steel pan Caribbean theme ( commute. I dream about an exotic place )
8PM : Ghostly waltz ( night is falling )
9PM : chill RnB Guitar ( let's eat outside / a date at the restaurant )
10PM : festive waltz ( hanging out on a festive evening )
11PM : minimalistic percussion ( time to go to bed )
Saving title : Lullaby
I miss this game so much I really hope that they come out with a good one for the switch (aka. I only bought the thing because I heard that animal crossing was coming to the system) lol
I played this game when I was 8 now I am a grown adult and still feel the same playing new horizons
2 AM: (Normally you'd be asleep)
Me on storm days: 4:26
I remember running down to the able sisters by the beach to the music at 8pm. What a game.
This is my favourite soundtrack ever
Yeah, still the best soundtrack in the series
I honestly call this one "welcome to animal crossing"
Apparently I usually played this around 5-6 pm, because those are the two with the most nostalgia.
The third dislike is that crazy cat without a face...guess that's what I get for always giving her only one brown eye and a crack in her complexion. 😏
Blaca! lol
Blanca.
I always try to give them a cute face but they always seem upset
whats w the offbeat clanging rhythm at 2pm
