The VIDAR in War Thunder is a Norwegian Tank for the Swedish Tech Tree. This SPG is the most advanced Artillery Tank in the game so far. It has an extremely high velocity HE shell fired from it's 155mm cannon.
The VIDAR also has access to not only Thermals but it even has a Laser Range Finder making it incredibly easy to aim. I think we've all imagined what it would be like to sling a HE shell at long ranges with a tank that has a laser range finder but now it's here.
The only unfortunate thing about this tank is that it's a Premium. It's also very expensive!

Imagine playing the tiger h and having to fight a vehicle with an auto loaded 155mm gun, gen 2 thermals and a laser rangefinder.

There are a couple vehicles that do have barrel physics, such as the Swedish Bandkanon

The Maus is pretty much the only thing at the BR that can tank a hit from it in my experience
As someone with a fair amount of playtime on the vidar, I can confirm that the maus is the only thing at this br that requires effort to kill

Kinda weird to see the SPG we had in our Battery while I was in the military, being driven around like a combat tank. Usually that gun barrel is pointing towards the sky.
Gaijin took a LOT of liberties to make this playable in their game.

I find it hilarious that you're facing majority of WWII tanks in this monster. Gen II thermals, autoloaded 155mm cannon, mega fast for its size, and probably the best HE shell in the game... this is truly one of those tanks that deserves an uptier.
That thing completely dominates even when uptiered. I have been playing a lot of 8.3 and I am actually happy to get uptiered and face T-55AMs rather than a team of this op shit.
Things like the 2S3M and Type 75 SPH are MILES of fun to use but the ammo being as hit and miss as it is can make them awfully frustrating to use sometimes.
This seems exactly like a high tech version of them.
At least both of those are at a much nicer BR... also aren't stupid broken.

This tank seems WAY too overpowered for 7.7. Essentially an object 120 but not as limited and gets thermals

I took it to 9.7 with the cvs and it destroyed. killed a t80 just by shotting his barrel
The g6 is only .7 br lower than it, it is actually funny how op this shit is.
Also the survavibility on this thing is actually insane. I was not able to one shot it one, even with hesh.
LRF (+ adjust the barrel) + Proximity shells + mg on top, far superior to the Object 120 so Br. 8.3+

As a former corporal in the Portuguese army, I never quite understood the gaijin's idea of placing artillery as tank destroyers, these are vehicles used for long-range attacks, not for direct combat. I don't understand how gaijin classifies these vehicles as being for direct combat
US TD doctrine was to be direct fire artillery that can rapidly deploy. And it’s the most sensible category as it’s not a tank or SPAA.
I think a part of it is they're running out of ideas of stuff to add to the game, so here's an artillery piece to shoot tanks with. As silly as it is, it does look like fun to use. At least if you're as good as Odd is....

What other role would this fill if not for direct combat. We already know artillery gameplay will never be added, so asking for it is stupid. World of Tanks already have that mechanic and it is one of the most hated features in the game. Being hit by an enemy sitting in their spawn for the whole match is just frustrating. If proper artillery mechanics were added, it would just encourage passive gameplay and camping.
The fact that it's Norwegian like me, has NVD, laser rangefinder, and a hilariously large gun, makes this a great partner for me. I've delayed buying anything for a long while, but this just went straight in the cart. No regrets so far. It's just fun. I really enjoy the slight ambush/sight-line playstyle anyways, so it suits me well.

I dont think Odd realizes what bad gun handling means. This thing is far from the worst offender by the looks of it. Rolls out and stops pretty smoothly, sway is not too bad. Other long boys wobble for way longer.
Considering it's a SPG arty and not an actual tank, it's pretty understandable it's not perfect in terms of handling lol.
I’ve been bringing this up to 10.0 with my CTCV, CV90, Lvkv and Lvrbv and honestly it does just fine, one shots Abrams and turms alike 😂
Did u know that the bkan also had a laser range finder? They have made the rangefinder a gunner sight in the X-ray.

Hey odd, now that the F6F has gotten a 2000lb bomb I think it'd be cool if you did a 4 man squad collab and coordinated 4 simultaneous drops to just bring in a wall of fire. Like it isn't effective but it certainly sends a message when 4 of those go off in a line

I just got to up 7.7 and 8.0 ..so no I didn't instantly know what was shooting me from another zip code 15 seconds out of my spawn.
the detonating before hitting them problem i think is it proxying off the barrel in front of them, i would aim a bit to the left or right and i could get people behind things

Been playing italy 8.3 and it was my first time being happy that I got uptiered because I finally didn't have to face vidars.
can you imagine being in a poor T92 and facing this MONSTER? or, for example, a Tortoise? or, maybe, even the Centurion Mk3? Or, the T26? from 3km away, you're not going to do anything against it, when it has a laser rangefinder and can instasnipe you....... something something Gaijin balancing. should be 8.3 min, imo
agree this thing is a point and click shoot anywhere and it's done. USA 7.7 is only getting more painful vsing things like this.
I used a ferdinand and faced two of these monsters and I'm just happy I did not get one-shot.. had a hard time killing it with APHE and it killed me by the 4th or 5th shot by the time I remembered I had HE..
it's actually pretty hard to kill a t92 with this thing... compared to any other tank it's facing, you actually need to aim lmao
That is a pefect example of a P2W tank , the amount of hits you survived with no dmg is insane . The T54's .50cal should have killed you , the direct arty hit should , the BTR-ZT should . You have 20mm armour and nobody penetrated you , there's a huge amount of RNG jesus .
I bought the vidar and played about 8 games and I didn’t have this luck but yea the laser range finder is pretty good. And sometimes the HE just doesn’t do anything to Russian heavy’s. It might just be a case of Oddz haveing god luck in these games
Just had a match where i failed to pen the vidar with a 250mm dart three times. "Failed to pen" each.

14:00 pretty cool seeing the damage to your tank. the blown open container on the back of the turret pretty cool. don't think I've seen that on another tank.

I'd love to see you play a t114! It's got a similar sized ready rack and and LOL amount of penetration with the recoiless rifle. (Side note: the 50 cal has the same velocity, you can use it to gage your aim on the main cannon!)

Give the Turan III a try, it's like a Hungarian Pz IV H, but much more mobile, especially in reverse. It also has the same gun as the IV H but I feel like it has better gunlaying, although that might just be the newness
Also, it's in the Italian tree so you don't get German teammates as often 👀

Eventually there will an artillery tank where you click on the map and it fires a round there with 89% accuracy, unless of course you hit a mountain on the way down. (Large arch upwards every shot)

Looked like a lot of fun. I try to avoid high tier because it's all just snipes as soon as you leave cover. But this thing looks tempting
It is broken as fuck.
Really mobile, has a laser range finder, short reload, good thermals and is literally impossible to one shot.
No matter where you shoot, unless you are firing large caliber HE you can not one shot it from the front.
Funny thing is, the G6 which is worse in basically every single way except for turret traverse is only .7 br lower.
I do not get how your audio is so clear and precise. It sounds like a garbled mess in my game even using eq profile specifically designed for war thunder by my headsets manufacturer.

@3:05 They added a "Dynamic Lut" setting to the PostFX options, that lets you set saturation from "OMG" to "WTF".
Seeing the loading mechanism is interesting, because Czechoslovakia prototype tank Skoda T25 was actually using this mechanism as well, it is a slightly worse autoloader because it has a magazine esentially that the loader replenishes and it acts as an autoloader for as long as the stowage is filled with shells. I would honestly like more of these tanks. Maybe even add those tanks under Soviet tech tree, or hell even at some point they could create Czechoslovakia tank tree and fill it with some prototypes or paper vehicles because those are at least realistic.

The Leopard 1 did not deserve to be 8.0. 7.3 was a good BR for it, sure it can be annoying to fight but people were crying about it for no reason. The is-6 stayed at 7.0 yet is extremely overpowered and nobody really complained.

I played around with the proxy fuse in test drive. It seems you need to rangefind and aim a good part higer and then it can oneshot even the heavy tanks sometimes.

It being 7.7 and potentially facing things like the King Tigers or T26s is fucking laughable especially after they moved Leo 1 all the way to 8.0 lol. This thing is getting moved up once the snail filled its greedy pockets on the initial sale

Seems like heavy tanks are coming back into their own, the HE even has issues with the front of M48s etc. Unless you gurantee you can hit the top of the tanks its definitely kind of a niche vehicle. It exels on open maps where you can sit outside of the visibility range and pop people using the thermals and range finder but city maps are hit and miss when anything can sneeze on you and your dead.
Gosh gen 2 thermals at 7.7, and LRf as well ? Guess they'll up it to 8.3-8.7 when everyone bought it.
One has to wonder why an artillery piece has a laser range finder, considering it would be firing from at least 10km away and out of LOS.
And anyone care to bet against it going up to 8.3 within a month?
Probably for if it needs to shell some ants within LOS, easier to just have the firing solution then and there

It would be really interesting if snail did an event on a mega large map and only arty would be allowed. The arty sniper duel would be epic. Top down or drone to see what are you shooting and balistic headings and coordinates in the scope view.

Most maps in warthunder are not even large enough to fully use this type of artillery. Some of these guns can hit targets up to 20miles.
I don't like the number of unique vehicles behind paywalls and are time exclusive

So that is the tank that was shooting my whole team from across the map ...I had just started playing 8.0 with my p.o.s T-54 ...I'm now back to playing 3.7 and 4.3 at least I can leave my spawn at this rank
