      I believe so. It doesn't matter how we sound like its about the intention in the heart. However I agree practice make sense though. I don't think God is choosing songs as long as it gives praises to him. I love your number 6, 8 and tips.

      Just start with Glorifying God! And make a joyful noise! Clap your Hands oh you people! Sing songs of Thanksgiving with a pure Heart and a clean mouth! Some folks sing in church and cuss on the way there and on the way Home!.😨 If you get right with God your worship will come from your Heart! With joy and Thanksgiving for forgiveness, no condemnation for those who walk in the spirit not in the flesh fulfilling your Lust's. A pure and cleansed soul and Heart will pour out loving worship to God!😇 Because they know they are Forgiven!

    I sang for 6 hours today just to work on my voice. I learned to sing in church worshipping God!. Many men don't sing in Church but I live to worship God, don't be afraid to try to sing you might be surprised. Songs can be prayers. Not everyone is a professional but God Honours your worship!

    1. Mean it
    2. Don't even care or think about
    Whose around, run into the presence with reckless abandon.
    3. Forget about you, focus on him.
    4. Take time to not only learn the words to what you sing, also take time to understand what you sing.
    5. Call the lover of your soul by his many names. Learn them. In the world people who always get into a place of physical intimacy with one another always say what? Say my name. Our worship with God is a place of intimacy between us and the father, say his name (the compound names of God).
    6. Even when the music stops, keep going. Remember the music never stops in heaven or your heart.
    7. This really ought to be first but acknowledge the Holy spirit. Worship is best when it's alive.
    8. Listen for God to speak not just in the words but in the music also.
    Create a heavenly atmosphere with an attitude of worship and not
    * AN ATTITUDE *
    9. Let God be God during worship and don't try to control it, let the Holy spirit lead you.
    10. Be humble and not prideful when you worship, the bible teaches that God resist the proud.

    Everything you said in this video is 100 percent true, especially the theologically rich song part. I'm conflicted sometimes about some of the songs we do because they are basically "Jesus is my boyfriend/girlfriend" songs, I'm not the worship leader so I play what is handed to me. It's hard to believe in a song where you know nothing of importance is being said and I have a hard time approaching the leader about everything you said in this video. Thank you!

    When I came across this video the skeptic in me was apprehensive about watching it because I have read so many blogs by people who thought they could "fix" worship, but I was so happy to hear every step that was given and agree mostly with all of them. Knowing the music is important but like you said that many churches have volunteer/non-paid participants, they do not always have the time to commit to memory every song. You also mentioned that Kari Jobe is a great smiler. That is so, so true. She makes you feel great with her smile. Unfortunately though she also has a bit of a conflict with one of your steps which is to try to be invisible. When Kari sings she goes all in and is in complete worship and that means it is impossible for her to be invisible. You cannot help but make her physical movements and expressions the center of your focus. It is not a critique, just a truth. When someone is really worshiping when they are singing they cannot just be a stick figure. They will be noticed. It's ok though. Every point mentioned is true and hopefully more worship leaders will view this video and learn from it.

    • @isaacfanai2006

      Mark DeFazio agreed with this our church is very diverse culturally and we have Africans on our worship team and they worship completely different than how other people here do so that’s more of a cultural thing on how you worship

    • @chordconfidence2392
      @chordconfidence2392 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark DeFazio, a simple thing that I have noticed (especially when a team is on camera) is that the people that I observe as the most authentic in their worship, are the ones that aren't taking note of anyone else in the room. Worship is simply about Jesus, and if I, or someone else is focused on Him only - or if I 'me' focused (looking constantly into the congregation) it's obvious.

    • @princessuy4918
      @princessuy4918 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A true worshiper makes it about God alone. Their full attention is on the Lord's presence, so a true worshiper will not be distracted by Kari Jobe's high notes or physical movements.

    So much truth here. I've been seeing this for years. Not just in worship but when I'm at concerts. Especially the comment that as worship singers/musicians were not Rock Stars. I see many so called worshippers who can't even engage with the church members or audience after their set is done. They have an elitist attitude. Also agree with very little songs with a definitive biblical theme. Many songs are very generic and are really indistinguishable from clean secular songs. Thank you for this video.

      That's a great point! I talked about that at the end of the video. To me it's semantics at the end of the day. We also worship by our giving and in prayer. Good reminder

  • @alicecollins5746
    @alicecollins5746 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh my gosh! You are sooo right. I so wish that they would go back to the old days of worship. Had scriptures to them. When an old worship song is playing, it's like the Holy Spirit jumps in me. Im worshipping with my eyes closed with a big smile on my face and my hands lifted high as far as they will go and I'm worshipping my ABBA. He comes on the scene and next thing you know I'm shaking really hard. At times I'm on the floor or on my knees. I have been thrown out of a few churches. I was told by one pastor who called me and told me in so many words not to come back. Another church, the plaster left his pulpit and said to his congratulation, no flesh will GLORY in His presence as the pastor was walking me out of his church. The other what he said made me feel like I had to tone it down. He recanted on that. I believe the Lord had a talk with him about that. I left the church anyway. So there's two churches that I will attend where as people's worship the Lord.. Im going to give this video to both pastors. Worship is dry. Where's the scriptures? Every Sunday new songs. Hardly go to church. Worship at home and read and study the word. Give my ties and offerings to ministry's. Thank you. I thought I was the only one who wants the worship songs of old to reach the thrown room of ABBA. It's all about Him. It's also spiritual warfare. Cleans the spiritual air for the Holy Spirit to move. Also tired of man's programs. Holy Spirit wants to move in a certain direction and He's cut of. Time to hear the message. This makes me so mad when the HS is quenched. Or someone comes up and starts talking about what the Lord had told them. Cant they wait untill worship is over and then release what God has given to them. they exspect people's to get back in a worship mode.

    • @chordconfidence2392
      @chordconfidence2392 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alice Collins, I agree. We used to sing straight scripture, even it was set to a 'folk' style, or a style that I didn't normally listen to. Maybe today people are too sophisticated for a humbler style. It's kind of difficult to improve on The Word of God, isn't it? (My favorite bumper sticker: I used to be cool). Blessings!

      The Digital Pastor Why are you trying to supplement the Spirit with the arm of the flesh?
      You are not doing worship but a production number.
      Try to check if what you said is what the Bible teaches.

    • @TheDigitalPastor
      @TheDigitalPastor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Michael,
      Definitely not supplementing the Spirit. There is a natural order and organization of worship that assists in worship. Look at the correction that Paul brought to the Corinthian church in their worship and their extreme nature of worship. If you go back and read my points they have nothing to do with production. The points have to do with focusing on who God is, what he has done, preparing in prayer, being diligent in practicing with your group and making it all about HIM! I wouldn't say that's about the flesh at all. Would you be distracted if you went to a worship service and every one of the people worshiping at the front had a giant frown on their face and played their instruments without practicing?
      Thanks for the comment brother:)

    • @michaeljames780
      @michaeljames780 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Digital Pastor Of course there is a natural order for all things. You get a very low view of worship, as Jesus said you can only worship in Spirit and in truth. Where's spirit and truth in your points? Isn't the things you discussed are what the secular bands are doing, except for prayer? Worship is not singing. And have you ever read about revivals? How they worshipped? They didn't need people in front to get them going to praise God.

    Here’s another tip: more than just choosing theologically sound songs, hymns can be more impactful than the popular worship songs. I learnt that once when my husband suggested I sing “Old Rugged Cross;” after the song, the pastor requested it again and some people expressed afterwards how it brought tears to their eyes.

    • @chordconfidence2392

      Good addition to the content Rovil 97! The hymns are theologically rich - FYI - I come from a classic rock music sytle, but have come to relish hymns because of their content. I have to admit that for a period of time, I was hung up on "my style". I believe that choosing CONTENT OVER STYLE reveals maturity in the person. Thumbs up to you!

And yes we need doctrinally correct songs and not emotionally. He’s so right about this. Amen. Thanks brother! I’ve made all these mistakes. This puts things in clear perspective. Hahaha!!! I love the part about selling the cd. Lol. So true! What do you think about worship being done after the service rather than before. My church started doing one song first, message, and then all the worship at the end.

    Tip 11, train your lyric slide runner to turn the next slide in time to see the next word before the worship team starts singing it. Our's is usually turning the slide on the down beat of the current line. And because the slides have a fade effect between slides, the worship team is on the 2nd or 3rd word before the congregants can even read them.

      Great point David! Worship doesn't need anything but the people and the Lord. Everything else is extra, cultural and supplementary. Nothing wrong with dark rooms, lights, and loud volumes. All churches and groups are different. Some like it bright and quiet and some like it darker and louder. angel of heaven I would be authentic most of all. Before service make sure you are ready and knowing why you are worshiping and the joy that corporate worship is. When you personally are joyful and eager to worship God, that will overflow in your own speech and body language. Point people to Jesus. Welcome them and give them an encouragement or invitation to worship. Keep it short and sweet.

    "pick easy song to sing"
    this is correct in so many ways. my church is one of the reaaaalllyyyy modernized church. i mean we sing planetshakers song, hillsong young and free and so on. it was my first time worship leading 2 yrs ago and i put one of the planetshakers song on my lineup. i feel so blessed by the lyrics and the beat was really insane and hype too but the congregation especially our elders can't get into it🤣. It was really expectation vs reality moment HAHHAHAHHAHAHA. As the year goes by, i learned to stick to the old songs. I still feel blessed and the whole congregation can relate to the song. And i also learned that worship leading is not abt music. We just use music as a tool to give worship and praises. Im so grateful to videos like this. It taught me a lot on how to improve my worship leading. Thank u💞

    About tip #1: My youth group was interested to sing songs in the service, I requested rehearse, but they told me, they were no professionals. Strange argumentation....
    Later I discovered, what Christian artists can do and that the poor music in my church has nothing to do with "less is more" but with laziness.

      When something is your passion and profession, you get "head wind" instead tailwind.
      But my point was the argumentation, to justify not doing the best.
      We are requested to give the first fruits, not the left overs.
      I think, we have to do the best possible, as long it makes sense.
      Why should I carry 2 keyboard workstations with realistic orchestra sounds, when the songs I play, requires piano, organ, some pads and the small synthesizer covers it all perfectly?

    Hello Thank you for your teachings out here. I agree with the things you have said. And it's all the things I am following in my worship team. There is one more thing You can add. As a worship team we usually call our Pastor once every week or every alternate week, to just come and speak and pour out his heart unto us. We ask him to teach us and show us the area of improvement and show us the areas where we are strong. He encourages us and tell us on which way He would like the worship team to flow. Of course He has given us the liberty to move in to the flow of the Holy Spirit. But sometimes when necessary he would sense something the Spirit of God is telling him or leading him to do. He would come and even change the things we have practiced. 🙏😊

    • @sheiji312
      @sheiji312 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've been through this question and I found the answer through What a Beautiful Name by Hillsong.
      The song just contains so much scriptural content especially combined with the bridge and so we kept on playing this song over and over again on the course of many weeks when one time I shared it to our pianist in church that it was one of my favorite songs and he told me "of course, even the beginning of the song is from Genesis 1:1". Now i'm still a baby in the bible but for me not to even realize that this came from Genesis was enough to tell me to stop being ignorant of the words in the bible.
      Its not necessary that all worship songs should be a must but theological deep songs are much, much better and has this strong presence and conviction of what God has done for us. That feeling of pure bliss as you know and praise God for all he has done.

    • @ReneAstorga
      @ReneAstorga 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      months ago now... the question to your question is: How do we respond to God if we don't know who or what we are responding to?
      We can't "relate" to God if we don't understand or know who or what we are singing about. Theology is about learning who God is. Feelings come as a response to learning God. Period. Can't have deep relational moments without knowing why. it's not something we should just "turn on".

      Every song doesn't have to be super deep! However it does seem like there is a large lack of depth in a good amount of popular worship songs today. There are simple songs that are not incredibly deep that are powerful, and there are are simple songs that are simply being lazy and uncreative in their writing. Take "Jesus Loves Me" for example. It's a simple song and creative and classic. Nothing wrong with that.

    Pop does not always equal theologically shallow. Really examine Y&F and you will find some very rich and honest lyrics if you just read the lyrics and don't sing it. Check out "Only Wanna Sing" by Y&F and listen to their new one "Hindsight" Also, older written lyrics does not mean that was the only time theologically rich lyrics were sung. "How Deep the Father's Love for us" is probably the most difficult melody to sing ever written but because it's familiar, people will sing it. Leadership can repeat any song over and over and eventually it will become familiar. Listen to "So Will I" by hillsong united, very rich and leads the body into missional worship. Check out Phil Wickham's new songs "Living Hope" or "Christ is Risen"; rich yet singable. Also, intellectual worship (worshipping with the mind) is healthy but that shouldn't be the only songs we sing. Jesus says to worship with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. You need balance in a set of songs. You need to have those heart songs of response that do say "Jesus We love You" , or "Have it All" that come from an honest place in the person. I've found people will embrace older songs out of the nostalgia of singing that song (worshipping a song) rather than worshipping who the song is about: JESUS.

    Great outline. Unfortunately, getting a team together on our visions for worship never meet eye to eye. These 10 topics I have touched on many times and for years with many different teams. The gentle approach of one area to improve on at a time, spoon feeding this to a team, doesn't help them receive any better. Showing them videos like this to show them they are far from my own vision to improve upon, doesn't seem to help either. Over all, I have been on dozens of worship teams and can never find any members who want to devote themselves to their gift and prepare, practice, or even think that it is not about them. I need a break through with any team to get on board and open their hearts and minds to the gift God gave them. To become good stewards of their gifts and build it up and continually seek how much more they have to offer. God loves us all where we are at but desires is to grow in His kingdom

    There are evangelical churches today that practicing cult worship like Hillsong United, Jesus Culture is Bethel Church practicing Kundalini...& maybe not only them.
    My question... it's alright to use their songs in the church?
    Because in the Bible tells us...
    " You cannot drink from the cup of the LORD and from the cup of demons, too. You cannot eat at the LORD'S table and at the table of demons, too.
    That means we cannot be a partaker of their cup and their table... because it's from the demons

      AdamEve. . .this is very true and sad :( I really enjoy SOME of Hillsong and Bethel's music, but unfortunately they have become very goofy. I glean a little and leave the rest.

      So, Godismyjudge? Why do you judge others? Your comment reveals your cup is already full of demonic already. God bless you and work in and through you and your dirty rags.

      Are you *sure* that those songs are from demons?? No. Just saying ✌

    These are some great points. It’s a shame there’s not that many theologically rich songs around (or I’m not looking hard enough 😂). I try and make sure that my own songs that I write are theologically rich, as I love to exalt God through song, it’s my real heart passion. Only thing I don’t fully agree on is have music
    Stand with the chords and lyrics. In my church, it hasn’t been noticeable that the worship leaders are reliant on them. Also, when I used to lead worship, I just used the music as a backup in case I did forget, and to help me with structure of a song (but sometimes the Spirit takes you off structure and you just go with it). But I can see how it’s get annoying if the worship leaders aren’t rehearsed enough that they can only play with chord and lyric sheets.

      Thanks Jacob. Yea, those rich songs are out there, just a little more sparce.
      If its possible I would try to get rid of the music. Not because you shouldn't have it up there, but it can help you focus on ministering if you've memorized the music. Not a requirement AT ALL, but it can be a help! Bless ya brother

    Amazing video brother ! Thank you for being so honest and not say what people want to hear but what God wants us to hear. I always ask myself if we are worship leaders or musicians how come we always have to be singing other people’s songs and can’t be original or pray God to give US new songs for our church. We serve the same God !

    Fantastic! Loved your style, particularly how you demonstrated the 'wrong' things! They made me laugh but I've seen all of them! Yes, I agree about Kari Jobe. Her smile is her X factor connection to the Lord! She exudes joy! That's what I want to practise! Thank you! Looking forward to more videos... Hilarious yet the harsh realities in our worship practices.

    Thanks, man! Some of your stuff stung me. In particular, 5 thru 8 have been weaknesses of mine from time to time. I have never had the idea of worship leaders "ushering in God's presence" challenged before, so I went on a hunt for verses to back up what I was taught as a teenage worship leader many years ago. Guess what...there are no verses that say this directly. I could see people inferring the idea from some of the Psalms, but it's a bit of a stretch. I found this quote from an anonymous source while doing research: "Sometimes when we sing, the power of music and truth combined can dig deeply into our hearts to make us realize that God is with us; but it wasn’t the singing that made Him appear. He was there all along." Wow! Mind blown!
    I am going to use your 10 tips with a fill-in-the-blank lesson that I created for a worship summit that we are hosting this weekend. I'm sure that the discussion will be interesting, to say the least.
    Thanks again!
    (40 years old and happy to keep learning!)

      Hey Steve! Hopefully it was a good sting lol. Right?? It's really bothered me to see worship leaders claim to somehow be these ushers of God's presence, as if any Christian couldn't be in His presence.
      Wow, so cool you used those. How did it go?
      Glad you were blessed by it. Thanks for the comment, God Bless!

      The Digital Pastor Thanks! It went really, really well. I've emailed the team the link and a written copy of your tips each week since we used it.
      It sparked wonderful conversation (conversation=connection) and got us thinking of other areas we need to be more aware of. For instance: the journey. "How do we begin in the outer courts, transition to the inner court, and end up in the most intimate worship place, the Holy of Holies?"
      Tip 11 for us was "Build your set list with the destination in mind. Don't begin the journey where you want to end up."
      Thanks again, man! Great stuff!
