- Check out the updated version taking you from shoot to edit: • How To Use a Green Screen
In this tutorial, I show you how to remove a green screen in Photoshop using in two scenarios.
1. Where the green screen has been lit perfectly.
2. Where the green screen hasn’t been lit so well - the more realistic way!
We’ll be looking at how to use different selection methods in Photoshop such as:
• Using the new select and mask future
• Selecting a colour range
• Adding different colours and tones of colours to a selection
• Expanding and feathering a selection
It can be difficult to remove a green screen from a background in photoshop, especially when the green screen wasn’t lit properly, but there are ways around and hopefully this tutorial will help you out.

Having recently started editing photos on green screen, I have to say your tutorial is BY FAR the best I have seen. Most of the others use a range of techniques and none produce a crisp cut like yours - you're also the most up to date (despite others being made in 2018!)
Thanks for the comments, glad the tutorial helped 😊
I went through a ton of content on green screen removal on TH-cam and this tutorial is hands down the best. Kudos!!
Thanks 👍
Agreed!
Just found the tutorial - thanks for clear explanation of how to remove the background - easy to understand and well delivered!
Wow. Love the last tip. The beginning was old hat but the tip at the end is a real lifesaver.
Man, you have raised the bar on tutorials! Absolutely perfect! thanks so much!
You're welcome 👍
I found the lesson was well presented. I wanted to (and succeeded in) cutting a head and shoulders from a greenscreen so that I could move the head where I wanted, and put either still images or a moving image, behind it.
Now I need to learn how to put a moving object (probably a person) in front of a moving background.
Thanks, glad you liked it 😊
Very useful. Even works in CS2 which is over a decade old at this point.
Thank you sir very helpful tutorial ,Greetings from PAKISTAN

After using color range and making that line around the object, it starts working opposite to what he did. When I cut it, it cuts what I want, and vice versa. Please help!!!

When i hit delete, its says ' Could not complete your request because the smart object is not directly editable". what do i do?
When I try to backspace it says Could not complete your request because the smart object is not directly editable.
Hi, you need to rasterize the layer. Right click and select rasterize. Hope that helps 👍
Can't seem to find the color range option at all :(
awesome videoooooooooooooo
+Rahul Mishra thanks Rahul :)
Thank God!
You're welcome 👍
I wont have to save PNGs anymore
I save that kind of file on both PSD and PNG - you can view your effect/file with PNG on your viewer without having to open photoshop , if all you need is a quick glance
What about adding a different background? Same principle?
Hi yes it is and we cover that in more detail here th-cam.com/video/TW-GRKzEze4/w-d-xo.html
Hope that helps 👍

Not sure about the Hue/Saturation technique to remove the last of green. It's effecting the entire image, not just the green edges.
father of photoshop
This didn’t work for me. When I do everything you said and hit delete, I get an error message that’s says “smart object is not directly editable”
Hi Bryan, right click on the layer, chose rasterize, then try again. Hope that helps
You need to rasterize the layer and make sure your layer is not the background
