Shisui is like an uchiha version of Minato. He has compassion for others and he would die to protect the village. I also really love Shisui and Itachi's voices in english dub.
There were many uchihas who inherited the will of fire and did not inherit the uchihas curse of hatred, such as kagami uchiha, itachi uchiha and of course, shisui uchiha.
I really like the theory that’s it’s a Kamui situation where each eye has a different variant of Kotoamatsukami: a passive secretive one that doesn’t need eye contact that subtly gives a order that you don’t even realize your following and could be broken if you discover it’s Genjutsu. and an active forceful one that requires eye contact that’s basically “This is your order. Yes I’m influencing you with Genjutsu. No you can’t do anything about it. Now do the thing.”
That is another reason why i hate d Danzo. It may have been possible to not have the whole of the Uchiha wiped out because if Shisui used his power it may have been stopped. But no Danzo just had to take his eye

Itachi was also a good guy. After shisui uses kotomatsukami maybe it only works on 50% of the uchiha because the other 50% are strong and find a way to break out so that's why shisui and Itachi have to kill half of them. Something like this with tweaks here and there works. Itachi didn't directly battle most of the clan it was a surprise attack and he had obitos help so I'm guessing fugaku was stronger than them at that time since he didn't outright battle, this could result in fugaku breaking the kotomatsukami on maybe his police unit. Anything works in fiction just gotta be imaginative enough to think up some bs
Correction: Shisui can use his Eye just like any other normal mangekyo ability (2-3 times a day) the 10 year restriction is for other people danzo is an exception coz he has senju dna
I don’t think it took shisui every decade to use his own Mangekyo jutsu I think he could use it multiple times, I think that restriction is only for people who don’t own the eyes or don’t have hashirama cells.

Shisui was like 3 years older then itachi ,so that’s really a stretch. His genjutsu is op ,but there are people like Obito controlling kyubi at base and people like Madara who do the same.

The eye can only be used once every 10 years outside of Shishui’s body, and not in conjunction with the other eye. It may work differently in an Uchiha body/Shisui’s body, and may work differently when both eyes are used together, the same way Obito’s eyes worked faster when used together.
I think that One eye can control anyone, without eye contact , but is weak and a person can snap out of it if he realizes he is being controlled. (This is the one that danzo uses on mifune) The other eye can control anyone , very powerfully, but needs eye contact.( This is the one which itachi uses on himself)

Gonna say this upfront: Shisui was feared as a ninja and Uchiha because he learned to use both his sharingan powers in BOTH EYES. Also, Shisui had a “blinking” ability. You know how in fighting games like the ninja storm ones where you had the dash button? It was basically that. It is also implied that Shisui didn’t want to fight Danzo because of the trouble it would cause. If Shisui killed Danzo, a good friend and former cell mate of Hiruzen, the third hokage, he would get in trouble with the man who took the chances of trusting Shisui to deal with the Uchiha. On top of that, Konoha’s relationship with the Uchiha was at an all time low, so Shisui would be considered to be a traitor to the Leaf as well.

I did mention that it's "basically" a blinking ability because the point is that it's a high speed, short distance maneuver not dissimilar to a real blinking ability, which is really just a quick, short ranged teleport. Shisui is very fast, fast enough that his body flicker is very close to teleportation, hence why his nickname in English is Shisui the teleporter despite the fact that he isn't actually teleporting.
The manga says that his mangekyo can’t be activated every 10 years, that could strongly be BecuAse that the mangekyo was in a bird not a body. Everyone over looks that. That’s probably why it takes 10 years to activate his mangekyo not the Jutsu.
It's all theories. I don't think it was even clarified. However, it was true for other Uchihas using other very strong jutsu which made them blind even when they were original users so this shouldn't be an exception. Again just like swagkage said, it's mostly theories.

I’ve always got the impression that the reason Danzo could only use koto “once every 10 years” was because it wasn’t originally his eye. Since using just the base sharingans ability for non uchiha is incredibly difficult I would imagine using mangekyo sharingan would be a shit ton more difficult thus making the use of it taxing as all hell.

the “once every 10 years” thing makes 0 sense. Shisui is the first person to ever have Koto, and he was like 15 years old. Say he unlocked MS like 2 years before his death and used Koto, how would anyone know he wouldn’t be able to use it for another 8 years that never even passed?
For some reason I thought it was explained that it could only be used once every 10 years when not attached to Shisui. Like Shisui might’ve been able to use it much more because it’s his special Jutsu, but since it was implanted into Itachis crow it was only able to be used once every 10 years. I always took the fact that Kotoamatsukami can be used only “once every ten years” as if you use it more often then that you seriously risk blindness,which is why Danzo could use it so often.He had Hashirama cells to heal the eye.We know for a fact Hashirama cells can stop blindness because there are two separate cases of it being done.This has always just made more sense to me

yo i like that theory, it's very wholesome, but i always imagined it was probably more likely they did that just cuz they could, like really skilled with it, so they figured out how and that there's a million and half threats and a whole lotta bs flying at you when your a ninja in this show, so they kept it on just to be like extra ready for any incoming threat so that nothing ever caught them by surprise.

The relationship with the uchiha brothers and shisui and passing down their eyes reminds me of the characters in final fantasy 7 who used the buster sword. Final Fantasy 7/Crisis Core: Cloud > Zach > Angeal Naruto/Shippuden: Sasuke > Itachi > Shisui
If Madara remained dead then Zetsu could've convinced Sasuke like sugested before, either by convincing him to merge with a Zetsu in a similar fashion to Obito or to inplant Hashirama's cells in him when he is asleep
Danzo had to save chakra for fake madara, was old, hasn’t fought in like years, hasn’t used his hashirama arm in over 8 years, had unstable hashirama cells and he was still the first person in the show to damage a humanoid susanoo from a raging mangekyo prodigy. Hashirama cells don’t benefit him at all, they just let him use izinagi while also draining his chakra a lot. He couldn’t even use shisui’s eye during the fight because he had to wait and save chakra for obito. Sasuke was also fending off a tendo pain level kakashi while blind and chakreless so Danzo isn’t fodder, he’s above average kage level lmao and shisui is featless.

I think the reason Shisui didn't case his ocular Jutsu on Danzo is because he had so much respect for the village and the elders that he wouldn't dare cast his Jutsu on one of them. Notice that in the anime I believe Shisui says sorry when he temporarily stops Danzo before Danzo gets his eye.

He allegedly (according to me googling it just now) unlocked his Mangekyo when he was 7 years old (youngest in history apparently?), a year after the end of the Third Great Shinobi War; and he died 9 years later, shortly before Itachi massacred the Uchiha clan. If this is all true, I can think of only one way that this could be possible, but I wanna know what everyone else thinks.
(head canon warning) If you think about it, the mangekyou abilities are named after deities, and there are only so many deities out there. It's possible that koto amatsukami manifested in another uchiha prior to shizui, hence why he knows about the 10 year restriction. It could've been written on the uchiha stone tablet too. In the end, the reason that fact was thrown by kishi is just to make it believable that someone could ever beat shizui or even engage in combat with him at all lol
Shisui is just one of the characters with the most potential, his genjutsu was insane considering he WON the edo tensei war, itachi was a huge part of it too, but if it wasn't for shisui, edo itachi and edo nagato would have MURDERED everyone. Shisui is ridiculous don't get me wrong, but he's almost as unknown as sakumo hatake, kakashi father. While we actually know NOTHING about his father, we knew some things about him but we literally saw him nothing. Itachi programmed the eye in the crow to go off upon seeing his sharing an so that it would hit only Sasuke, it needed eye contact in that case because Itachi wanted it to. And Itachi didn’t break out of it because he didn’t want to despite knowing he was under it, since he wanted to be under it so he wouldn’t be under Kabuto
He is literally featless. You can't powerscale him. It's like trying to powerscale Sakumo. All we know about him is that he "shadowed even the sannin" , but we don't even know if this was meant as fame or as power.
Sakumo yeah; Especially cause the direct translations of the Sannin quote you reference were/are pretty rocky. Because they used some kanji that's not very specific, so we don't know if he shadowed 1 of them individually or all 3... And again like you said it was also vague enough, it could've just been talking about popularity or in accompolishments rather than just raw power or skill. But Shisui has feats of beating Itachi regularly... And yeah like Swag said, he beat 12 y/o Itachi so you can't say he beats Adult Itachi... But in fairness 12 year old Itachi: SCARED Obito, slaughtered half the Uchiha clan, and literally Insta-KO-ed Orochimaru with base Sharingan genjutsu. It's also stated canonically the Mangekyo is "several times more potent" so even if you downplay and say Itachi is BARELY stronger than Orochimaru, and downplay saying Shisui=12yo Itachi at genjutsu, once you add in Mangekyo amp... He's 3-7x stronger than Orochimaru just from Genjutsu. So crazy as it is to say, he probably beats Naruto all the way up to the war arc, when Kurama would start helping Naruto with Genjutsu, in a single glance, the same way Itachi beat Orochimaru.
Shisui has enough feats to put him in the top tier It’s safe to say if he lived longer he’d be beyond high Kage tier He died at beyond sennin tier I would say, easily eclipsing Orochimaru and Jaraiya when scaling his student Itachi at the same time period

The eye can only be used once every 10 years outside of Shishui’s body, and not in conjunction with the other eye. It may work differently in an Uchiha body/Shisui’s body, and may work differently when both eyes are used together, the same way Obito’s eyes worked faster when used together.

Gonna say this upfront: Shisui was feared as a ninja and Uchiha because he learned to use both his sharingan powers in BOTH EYES.
Also, Shisui had a “blinking” ability. You know how in fighting games like the ninja storm ones where you had the dash button? It was basically that. It is also implied that Shisui didn’t want to fight Danzo because of the trouble it would cause. If Shisui killed Danzo, a good friend and former cell mate of Hiruzen, the third hokage, he would get in trouble with the man who took the chances of trusting Shisui to deal with the Uchiha. On top of that, Konoha’s relationship with the Uchiha was at an all time low, so Shisui would be considered to be a traitor to the Leaf as well.

I did mention that it's "basically" a blinking ability because the point is that it's a high speed, short distance maneuver not dissimilar to a real blinking ability, which is really just a quick, short ranged teleport. Shisui is very fast, fast enough that his body flicker is very close to teleportation, hence why his nickname in English is Shisui the teleporter despite the fact that he isn't actually teleporting.

I’ve always got the impression that the reason Danzo could only use koto “once every 10 years” was because it wasn’t originally his eye. yo i like that theory, it's very wholesome, but i always imagined it was probably more likely they did that just cuz they could, like really skilled with it, so they figured out how and that there's a million and half threats and a whole lotta bs flying at you when your a ninja in this show, so they kept it on just to be like extra ready for any incoming threat so that nothing ever caught them by surprise.

If Madara remained dead then Zetsu could've convinced Sasuke like sugested before, either by convincing him to merge with a Zetsu in a similar fashion to Obito or to inplant Hashirama's cells in him when he is asleep

Danzo had to save chakra for fake madara, was old, hasn’t fought in like years, hasn’t used his hashirama arm in over 8 years, had unstable hashirama cells and he was still the first person in the show to damage a humanoid susanoo from a raging mangekyo prodigy. Hashirama cells don’t benefit him at all, they just let him use izinagi while also draining his chakra a lot. He couldn’t even use shisui’s eye during the fight because he had to wait and save chakra for obito. Sasuke was also fending off a tendo pain level kakashi while blind and chakreless so Danzo isn’t fodder, he’s above average kage level lmao and shisui is featless.
Danzo could've killed Sasuke so many times but it was his hubris which was his downfall

I think the reason Shisui didn't case his ocular Jutsu on Danzo is because he had so much respect for the village and the elders that he wouldn't dare cast his Jutsu on one of them. Notice that in the anime I believe Shisui says sorry when he temporarily stops Danzo before Danzo gets his eye.

How would anyone (including Shisui) be able to figure this out? He never had his Mangekyo Sharingan for over ten years. He allegedly (according to me googling it just now) unlocked his Mangekyo when he was 7 years old (youngest in history apparently?), a year after the end of the Third Great Shinobi War; and he died 9 years later, shortly before Itachi massacred the Uchiha clan. If this is all true, I can think of only one way that this could be possible, but I wanna know what everyone else thinks.

(head canon warning) If you think about it, the mangekyou abilities are named after deities, and there are only so many deities out there. It's possible that koto amatsukami manifested in another uchiha prior to shizui, hence why he knows about the 10 year restriction. It could've been written on the uchiha stone tablet too. In the end, the reason that fact was thrown by kishi is just to make it believable that someone could ever beat shizui or even engage in combat with him at all lol

Shisui is just one of the characters with the most potential, his genjutsu was insane considering he WON the edo tensei war, itachi was a huge part of it too, but if it wasn't for shisui, edo itachi and edo nagato would have MURDERED everyone.
Shisui is ridiculous don't get me wrong, but he's almost as unknown as sakumo hatake, kakashi father. While we actually know NOTHING about his father, we knew some things about him but we literally saw him nothing. We saw some things shisui did and damn that one thing he did he STOPPED EDO TENSEI, but other than that it's just a huge list of speculation, which sucks.
Shisui is one of my fav character and I'm bummed that we never saw him actually fight, or revived in the war

Itachi programmed the eye in the crow to go off upon seeing his sharing an so that it would hit only Sasuke, it needed eye contact in that case because Itachi wanted it to.
And Itachi didn’t break out of it because he didn’t want to despite knowing he was under it, since he wanted to be under it so he wouldn’t be under Kabuto
He is literally featless. You can't powerscale him. It's like trying to powerscale Sakumo. All we know about him is that he "shadowed even the sannin" , but we don't even know if this was meant as fame or as power.
Sakumo yeah; Especially cause the direct translations of the Sannin quote you reference were/are pretty rocky. Because they used some kanji that's not very specific, so we don't know if he shadowed 1 of them individually or all 3... And again like you said it was also vague enough, it could've just been talking about popularity or in accompolishments rather than just raw power or skill.
But Shisui has feats of beating Itachi regularly... And yeah like Swag said, he beat 12 y/o Itachi so you can't say he beats Adult Itachi... But in fairness 12 year old Itachi: SCARED Obito, slaughtered half the Uchiha clan, and literally Insta-KO-ed Orochimaru with base Sharingan genjutsu.
It's also stated canonically the Mangekyo is "several times more potent" so even if you downplay and say Itachi is BARELY stronger than Orochimaru, and downplay saying Shisui=12yo Itachi at genjutsu, once you add in Mangekyo amp... He's 3-7x stronger than Orochimaru just from Genjutsu.
So crazy as it is to say, he probably beats Naruto all the way up to the war arc, when Kurama would start helping Naruto with Genjutsu, in a single glance, the same way Itachi beat Orochimaru.
Shisui has far more feats than Sakumo lmao
