- The USA Swimming 2009 National Championships and World Championship Trials were being held at Indianapolis' IUPUI Natatorium from 7 July through 11 July 2009. The meet served as the trials for the 2009 Swimming World Championships. Michael Phelps broke the world record in the men's 100-meter butterfly when he swam in 50.22 seconds, beating compatriot Ian Crocker's mark of 50.40 set at the 2005 world championships in Montreal.

Big ups to Phelps's mom... she's always there.... ALWAYS!!!
other's moms are working maybe....
cuz they have to, for living
Mel Stewart shows a passion in his commentary that can't be matched. I'd go crazy commentating as well 😂
3:41 unintentionally hilarious
That's how nationals should look like. This year's nationals were a JOKE.
michale phelps is a pleasure to watch
I would like to see this reaction from Phelps at a swim meet this year, he looks too disappointed from his races lately.
Yes, the butterfly is his signature stroke.
Yes, the butterfly is hard for everyone when you begin to learn how to swim it, but overtime like anything else as you keep practicing more and more it becomes second nature.
Currently, it is one of my best strokes.
No, and then it is breastroke.
I would say so.
His cap.
I didn’t know Aaron Peirsol swam butterfly
I laughed when Piersol appeared on the 100 butterfly lineup. The commentators were also chuckling.
? Mel said he turned in a fast fly that morning, not sure where you heard him chuckle.
Wild to see he got 3rd too and he must have at least dropped a 51+ as well. A swimmer’s event range is much higher at a national setting because it’s way easier to be top 8 in the country than to be top 8 in the world.
this commentary was awful
Nathan Adrian always so much more humble when he wins. MP seems like a jerk.
He's the greatest Olympian ever. I think he deserves to be a little cocky.
Wouldn't you be pumped if you broke a world record too?
Dude do u know how hard it is for olympians to go best times?
schooling ain't gonna break his record! kick him back to Singapore an let's see if he can win a medal at the world champs if he trains there.
schooling trains his all life in the usa
Caterine Hernandez I know that, what I mean is he would never have achieved so much had he not trained here
ok but you have to understand one thing.... MP is the best
omg u really don't understand...of course MP is the best, that's something everyone knows
Dressel will probably break it, though.
