I mean it's a great swim, don't get me wrong, but the fact that the suit probably literally knocked 3-4 seconds off his time is kind of disgusting. I know after the suits were banned he never went under 1:44 again for the 200 free. Not sure about his best 400m in a textile time. Not trying to be a hater, Biedermann is a great swimmer, but it would still be pretty cool if Thorpe had the record in this event
That he couldnt repeat this times wasnt only a result of the suit. He wasnt at his prime anymore after 2009. Tbh I think the only thing he wouldnt have gotten without the suit is the 400m WR. He was so strong this year, I think he would have gotten the 200 and 400 win and the 200 WR anyway.
This hurts to watch mostly because it was Thorpe's world record that no-one else has beat yet and even though this was a great swim, it didn't deserve to end the legacy of Thorpe. Mind you, if the 2009 times don't count, Thorpe's 400m freestyle would be the oldest record in the books by far.
Tech suit or no tech suit, this swim was insane, a negative split!!! It always strange to see that the record seems so weak to all if the swimmers at any championship be ahead of the world record by a full second and then it destroys them the second half.

I know the suits did help a lot. However, there was a record in the 200 breastroke that was set awhile ago that is broken now but that individual swimmer couldn't get close to it. He was from Japan I want to say his name was Yamaguchi? He couldn't get close to his own record. This was after the suit ban. I'd say yes the suit helped Biedermann but I'd say its a mix of him aging and not being able to get close to his time again.
Paul Biedermann never got close to these times after this not saying this wasn't a good performance but you can't deny it was more suit than his actual swimming ability, where as Thorpe and many Great swimmers Phelps etc broke their own world records several times.
@@XDF745 To be fair all suits were banned, not just polyurethane suits. Men can only wear textile trunks now.. But yeah the suits used in 2008-2009 were way faster than anything Thorpe used.
@@jabba969 All full body suits are banned now to take out of any suspicion out of it, but the full body textile swimsuits were not producing WR like this left right & centre. I can't even remember anyone even wearing them other than Thorpe.. if they were that great you would have seen a lot more people wear them where as when the Arena X-Glide & Speedo LZR Racer came out everyone was wearing them because they were so broken 43 World Record's went in 2009 Rome championships. You rarely see record being broken now because how how much the suits pushed the times in a short period. even Dressel & Chalmers crazy fast freestyle's can't beat Cesar Cielo 100m.
ian thorpe won world champs aged 15 in a speedo. you cant compare his suit to that of biedermann, whose performance spiked when these suits were introduced.
Jack Vincent Ian Thorpe is the best 400 m freestyler in history, a great swim from Biedermann, he was able to swim a great time in Shanghai 2 years in after in a jammer where he got bronze in close finish behind Lochte in the 200m and great one in the 400m as well
and I care about David Popovici. May be Popovici, in the future, will swim 400m free, too. Excuse me, a prediction: in the future, swimming will also be dominated by black people, as will athletics, basketball, partial football. Popovic is mulatto, mestizo, a half-breed man/male.

He was a nobody without the suit. Never came close to any of these times and as far as I'm concerned, these WR's from 2008/2009 aren't legitimate.
Thorpe is still the best freestyler of all time.
