    Hey! SRS dev here. Great video!
    I've read manuals and spoken to SMEs to try to get the handling of SRS right.
    If I've got anything wrong or have suggestions please do get in touch.
    For the hornet, the reason you can only use comm two is the selector isn't functional on the hornet interface
    However, the next SRS version will repurpose a switch to allow it to work on either.

    Have Quick = frequency hopping. Having used both HQ and secure, these sounds are pretty good. For everyone's immersion benefit, "green" is secure and "red" is plain, e.g. "switch green" would be to tell someone to switch to secure voice.

      SRS has a basic HQ feature added for the a10c and F5E
      The WOD is taken as the frequency on the radio (as there is no way to input it)
      It's also got the special clicks you get on HQ
      For the A10C turn the 100mhz volume knob to T to activate

    Have Quick is actually an encrypted scheme. KY58 is an analog encyption module AFAIK. The encryption is based on frequency chopping sequence delivered from the key and time (this is why it needs synchronization). There is nothing fancy in that oppose to what you guys sugest at 8:40. I'm might be wrong though so if you can please support your theory by some written document I would be grateful.

    • @AIRWARFAREGROUP
      @AIRWARFAREGROUP  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Radoslaw. Firstly I'll confirm what was said, and then I'll try to add some explanation. While you are correct on how the HAVE QUICK functions, this does not make it an 'official' means of encryption, as defined by the govt agencies responsible for govt information security.
      Tekada was referring to HAVE QUICK (not implemented in DCS and not the subject of this video) when he said "Freq hopping [on HQ] is different than the cypher modes on the KY-58 ... Freq Hop is more of an anti-jam capability."
      Anecdotally from our own subject matter specialists, HQ is not a form of encryption as it does not convert the transmitted data into a codified form for transmission.
      In contrast to Have Quick, KY-58 (and other VINSON crypto devices) use a SAVILLE cryptographic algorithm which is designated as an 'official' means of secure encryption and widely used by NATO.
      This is corroborated in open source by the US Navy Training System Plan for AN/ARC-182(V) [a HQ radio] (linked below), which states:
      "The AN/ARC-182(V) Radio Set is a radio communications system that provides Navy and Marine Corps aircraft with direct *securable* communications..." [my emphasis].
      It goes on to say:
      "...when operated with a [HAVE QUICK] Control Unit, [the AN/ARC-182(v)]] provides a frequency hopping anti-jam capability in the Ultra-High Frequency mode. This feature is called 'HAVE QUICK'."
      This supports the assertion that HQ is not intrinsically encrypted, as it is referred to as 'securable' rather than 'secure'. The US Navy document does not mention any form of encryption but it is widely known that HQ radios can be used over a secure network via encryption systems such as the KY-58.
      It also supports the assertion that the primary function of HQ is anti-jamming, as this is explicitly mentioned.
      There are also several non-official but highly credible sources such as fas.org which explicitly state that HQ is not considered to be encrypted.
      I hope this answers your query. ~Tyro

      @@AIRWARFAREGROUP thank you for the answer. I will have to dig into topic what KY-58nactually does as I was assuming it only provides pseudo random voltage signals that is feed into AN/ARC-182 to implement frequency chopping by voltage driven frequency modulator.

      @@AIRWARFAREGROUP yes I also found this page. It seems you are right. Have Quick is a function of the radio and KY-58 uses fully digital encryption scheme that require 25kHz channel. This would explain why it only work on UHF and why there is a static after initial beep. The static is actually the digital data. Thanks, I learned something today!

    do these codes prevent other ships from listening in if their plane wasnt given the same encryption keys, but they do have their own decryption? that may have been deemed a little excessive but im curious if that was done

      @AIRWARFAREGROUP  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Far as we can tell, DCS only allows six KY-58 selections and then the full frequency bands of comm 2. I haven’t seen any encryption loads capabilities thus far. Anyone matching your settings should listen in. SRS can be set for Secure Coalition Communication or real open frequency unsecured. We’re doing a few test between different aircraft and different coalition forces soon.

    Love the intro to the mids voice system. Im having trouble with the data link tab once you hit the button on the UFC no longer looks like what is described in this video. Is there another way now that the datalink page has been changed with the auto landing system for the hornet now? Am I missing something? When I select the button I don't see vocA or vocB.

    • @AIRWARFAREGROUP
      @AIRWARFAREGROUP  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Matt, thanks for the feedback. So I checked to see if ED released another Breaking Update...meaning, they "Broke Something" and it checks out good. You have to hit D/L button twice now.
      Basically, in order to get MIDS working, you have to come off the 127 setting which is usually AIC (Air Intercept Control) to all Donors, and if you are testing D/L in a single player environment on your machine without other donor aircraft like AWACS or Link-16 capable aircraft connected to the system, you'll get little or no information on DataLink Page. MIDS A and B should be set to 126 and below and you have to select different channels for each, meaning you can put both on the same channel. For DL (Situational Awareness) page...I'm getting normal indications and representations of symbology for aircraft tracked in the LINK system.
      If you are still having problems, contact me on Discord through Tactical DCS and I'll see if I can help you troubleshoot your setup. Cheers and thanks for watching the channel...share with a friend.

      Hey RC...so, I notice if you bring up the SRS Radio Overlay, it has the radios available in your aircraft when powered on. In the Hornet, with MIDS A/B both set, I see two AN/ARC-210 radios and two MIDS CHN when set in DL on the UFC. In the Viper, I have two primary radios AN/ARC-164 and AN/ARC-222 with a third "No Radio: Place Holder plus intercom and transponder windows. I don't fly all the DCS Aircraft, so in theory, you would have PTT setting options for as many radios as you want, up to 5 on the TM Warthog Thumb Hat as up, down, forward, back, and in are programmable. I use the center PTT in on the Hat as Intercom in the Goshawk. Let us know what you discover in the other airplanes?
      Anyone else add to this?

      No, not at the moment. *Maybe* the F-15E will have a voice capable MIDS LVT, but the A-10 doesn't even have MIDS, and the F-16s other MIDS channels are used for target data sharing only. Why that last part is I have no Idea, the Hornet just does it thought the standard net.
      Only thing I know for certain that would have it is the Super Hornet, but that's not happening any time soon.

    And you made friends really quick if you were supposed to be filling the aircraft keys and you inadvertently Z out the key device, i.e. KIK-13. Then you had to go back to the TOC or whoever was holding the master devices, refill your device and try again at the aircraft. Becomes all sorts of fun if you aren't co-located. :P
