Not that it makes the movie a masterpiece in literature or anything, but I do sort of appreciate that the movie wrote the majority of the characters of in this movie to play into opposing stereotypes for the animal species that they are. The pigs: The girl is responsible, motivated, and graceful while the boy is confident, supportive, and energetic. The mouse: Bullies other characters, has the guts to back up his ego, and is cut from cleaner cloth but lacks more worldly wisdom. The porcupine: She is proud, loud, and ready to fight and stand up for herself and is also quite rebellious. The gorilla: He's an individual rather than a pack follower, he's gentle and sensitive, and he's broody and unsure of himself. The koala: Tons of energy and always on the move and he loves to talk. He loves an audience. The sheep: The boy is aimless and clueless and is actively being discouraged from being a part of a heard. The old woman sheep is a famous innovator that refuses to indulge in others who aren't on her level. (Refuses to be among "sheep.") The only one who's sorta conventional is the elephant who plays in the gentle giant stereotype a bunch and notably even fans of this movie I've spoken with have said she's the weakest/most boring character. Again, it's not masterclass or even all that clever but when I realized this I started to get some of what they were going for with both the artstyle and the idea. The thing that pisses me off most about this movie (and its petty as hell) is that Buster talks so much about his love for "Theatre" when clearly all he cares about is singing.
