    Heh, did a little digging and found out that the "Hamilton" he is referring to in this song is the Hamilton Watch Company. They were the first to create the digital LED wrist watch in the early 1970's, and effectively were the reason wound wrist watches went out of style. Kinda interesting. It's also interesting to note that, even though LED wrist watches were quite expensive, they nevertheless grew in popularity, for the ease of use, and the ease in which you could tell the time.

      ( yes poppy was a train engineer ) & he still used it right up to the day he died. ( R.I.P ) & now my dad has it but dad prefers the digital watches....

    Personally, I still carry around a pocket watch, chain and all, even when I'm not dressed up in steampunk fashion. I like pocket watches, and if anyone has a problem with that, then they can tell it to my flintlock and saber.

    • @DamonFyrian
      @DamonFyrian 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Elia Neeley My love of Doctor Who only solidified my love of pocket watches. (A Time Lord's essence is held in his fob watch. Several incarnations of the Doctor, namely the First, Fourth, Seventh, Eight, and Eleventh Doctors, as well as the Master, all had fob watches. In case you don't already know, it's called a "fob" watch because the pocket on a waistcoat that it's held in is called a fob.)

    Unpopular opinion time: Clockwork really is beautiful and I love cogs too, but digital clocks are wonders as well, man. All those circuits and wires all working together to produce one whole. Electricity and metal harnessed to show time, something humans have applied to reality anyway. They're different, but they're both beautiful and both something we should be proud of.
    Still love the song though, lol.

    There was a girl in one of my classes freshman year and she could hardly read an analog clock. -_-
    I learned to read an analog clock long before digital, in fact, the first time I remember seeing a digital clock was in kindergarten. We have true analog clock on a fireplace mantle, it has a clear face and I remember taking it down when I was younger just so I could sit and watch the cogs spin. Clockwork is probably the best example of beauty and functionality coming together as one.

    • @CheffBryan
      @CheffBryan 9 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      I learned how to read one from an old teaching tool that had plastic cogs for kids to intentionally move. Didn't matter what you moved, everything else would move in concert with you. Always loved clockwork since then.

    @Ichvyenichalster Thank you for your insight and sharing a bit of information on clock making. I'm sure some elements of this song are not accurate, however in truth we are merely musicians and actors writing fictional stories about time machines, robots falling in love and other interesting yet impossible things. The point of this song, as with all our songs, is merely to be fun and entertaining fiction. It's nice hearing from a watchmaker and we appreciate the interesting facts. Cheers!

    This is without a doubt one of the most brilliant steampunk songs I've ever heard. It tells a great story and honestly I've figured out why I like your vocals so much - you've obviously got great vocal control and are a talented man but the emotion in your voice is hard to match. It's becoming rarer and it's the driving force behind great music, in my opinion.

      Bal-Sagoth. MEtal, sure, but each song is a chapter in a story, for example, the songs "The Splendor of a Thousand Swords gleaming under the blazon of the hypberborean Empire" parts 1, 2, and 3 all tell a story arc of war.

    I love the song and the sentiment ... but the eponymous Mr. Hamilton had no affiliation with the watch company that bore his name. Hamilton Watch Company was founded in Lancaster, PA and was named after the owner of the land on which Lancaster was founded. In fact, not only was Mr. Hamilton never directly tied to any watch company, he was dead long before the digital watch was even a possibility, and the Hamilton Watch Company itself was more-or-less just selling Hamilton-branded watches it developed with other companies. The Pulsar, its digital watch, wasn't built by the Hamilton Watch Division at all, it was the parent company that developed it with Electro/Data, Inc. Even their analog watches were in decline by this point and they had been purchased by the company that would go on to become Swatch a full year before the Pulsar was released.

      Well cause although i love this song it isnt 100% accurate. The cog is still used a lot more than you'd expect and we're not living in anything close to that. (Cogs are admitedly used a lot less then they used to be but still)
