The first time you loaded from tape, it also did not start loading until you pressed a key. From what I can read online, you need to press the Return key on the computer after pressing play on the tape deck before it will actually start loading.
great video. I love the combination of some story at the start and then a fixup :) it looks great. I am slowly wanting one of those more and more myself. considering an 800. just because of the looks :)
The wider of the two slots on the back of the machine is the cartridge port. It is techically the same slot as found in the XL-machines. Cartridges for the XL should work without any problem. The smaller slot is the expansion slot. This one is physically different from the one on the XL machines, but technically, they are almost the same.
This retrospective video makes meow want to buy the original 8-bit Atari XL or XE. That computer has even those games, that never came out for the Commodore 64 nor Amiga 500. Such as ALLEY CAT (Bill Williams) 😺👍🕹️. My first childhood home computer was SpectraVideo 728 (MSX) back in the late mid 1980's. This video deserves a big retrospective like 👍🕹️ from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮. 😺👍🕹️
Great video, mate ... It cleaned up well, retrobrited 😉... tape deck could be a broken wire .. the guts are the same as the c2n commodore tape deck ...
I was hoping there'd be an Arari equivalent of BadgeMan on the Commodore . . . but I haven't found one. Thanks for the info re the C2N - I have several in my stash, so it'll be worth poking around.
excellent video as always tim..thank you.
Very cool video!

@47:44 Your mistake was that you forgot to press the RETURN key after pressing the PLAY button
Thanks.

Thanks for the info. It'll be interesting to see what can be hooked up to it...

Go Finland! I'm a big fan of Finnish metal 🤘

The retro-brighting of the keys and case look great. I haven't used a tape drive in 40 years so I can't help you with functionality.
Great Work man! NEVER stop that. :p
This was my first home computer.
It's an interesting little machine, and I definitely plan on exploring it some more.
