I'm so happy you got some real world usage out of the programmer with the C64 ROMs! I like how easy you make it for everyone to follow along and get one running :) And thanks again for making it available in the UK - I always feel so bad turning away people because of bureaucracy!
Awesome job featuring Firestarter! The main goal and driver for me to create Firestarter, is to give like minded a simple, cheap and versatile EPROM programer. I hope it will help out retro hackers and others to boost their work on old hardware.
Ordered one off you after seeing this video and it arrived today - setup was slightly different for Windows, but was able to read from an EPROM - just waiting on some blanks to test
Thank you Tim for the video guide, I've managed to successfully flash my W27C512 thanks to you. I also found it funny because your profile picture seemed familiar, and it was because I bought the PCB off your ebay shop lol I think Anders is looking to get some rev 2 boards made, do you think you'll be selling those as well?
Glad you got it working. I expect I'll sell rev2 boards eventually, but it depends on selling my remaining rev0 boards, and then on finances (ebay isn't a 'business' for me, so it depends on having spare time & money. And last month I had a big roofing repair done that pretty much wiped me out financially, so it'll take a while to build up spare cash again. But give it time...)
Hello, you are pretty old school but I really like your vibe. I also very like when you shared where the source of truth is. Can we manipulate car ecu's and eeproms ? like abs modules ? Many Thanks, all the best !
It supports lots of devices, definitely EEPROMS (I've used Winbond 27C512s in it). I'm sure more devices will get added as time goes on - this project is being actively developed.
@@afkafkafk Thanks, I have switched to NVRAMs ds1230y (same pinout) for now, after a month of trying Ben Eater's programmer and other circuits and software unsuccessfully with AT28C256s. Just be sure to tie WE of the NVRAM to vcc once programmed for write protection, when removing it from the programmer to your circuit.
@@TimsRetroCorner Hi Tim Unfortunately I don't know the specs of the intell D2732a U7420139S PGM 21V, I thought you could tell me. I have an old board with an application of 6 EPROMs, I just wanted to copy and paste them onto other new 2732 chips, Thank you, thank you
Don't use electrical tape, it is nasty and will fall off. Kapton tape is the industry standard for a reason. Also that ZIF socket is less universal than ideal for DIP packages. Other than that, good job!.
My store's not set up for exports at the moment, but you should be able to get one shipped direct from Anders Nielsen's store (it'll be the later version too). The link is in the description above. He doesn't ship to the UK, which is why I'm doing UK stuff.

Just today I was looking at a machine that had non-standard ROMs in it (27128s), and I used the RURP to download the EPROMs for further study :)

Nice work, Tim .. nice little burner 😉
Thanks 👍

That's a neat usb dock. Is it from Amazon?
Yep. Acacis brand. It's actually a full on docking station, with NVMe bay, ethernet, and HDMI out in addition.
Can it program 28c256 EEPROMS? They are tricky due to the software data protection disable.
I haven't had much luck with my AT28C256 so far
I understand from the developer that it's physically capable, but the software to do it hasn't been written yet.
@@TimsRetroCorner Thanks, Tim.

hi can I also burn a D2732a with it? I can't find this chip in the list Thanks for Info
Do you know the chip's specs? Maybe you can read the ID out of it and match against that?
