But prove yourselves doers of the word [actively and continually obeying God’s precepts], and not merely listeners [who hear the word but fail to internalize its meaning], deluding yourselves [by unsound reasoning contrary to the truth].
For if anyone only listens to the word [f]without obeying it, he is like a man who looks very carefully at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he immediately forgets [g]what he looked like.
But he who looks carefully into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and faithfully abides by it, not having become a [careless] listener who forgets but [h]an active doer [who obeys], he will be blessed and favored by God in what he does [in his life of obedience].

Loving Father, oh Father of the fatherless, Friend of sinners and Helper of the helpless: I thank Thee for keeping the windows of heaven open through Jesus to hear our prayers. I thank Thee for the open door that no man can shut. May we press into the Most Holy Place while yet the door of mercy stands open on the hinges of grace. My LORD, incline Thine ear to us and grant us Thy peace. May the broken home altars be rebuilt and may it please Thee to rekindle the fire consecration and consume the sacrifice of confession and repentance. Attend to the feet of the little ewe lambs in their coming and going; the parents to stand as guardians to them and finally present them to Thee. Please send a revival and reformation to help us stand in defense of truth and righteousness when the majority forsake the truth. Have mercy upon our slothfulness. Please turn us back to the Fountain of living waters for the heart of man is in Thine hand to turn it whithersoever Thou deem fit. Raise up more faithful sentinels to stand as true watchmen on the wall. Arise O Lord, I pray Thee - leave not Thine heritage to reproach. Be Thou our shield and defense in the hour of trial, in Jesus' name and for His sake. Amen
