I think as much as we want to encourage our pastors, we are also required by the word of God not to be given to itching ears - just wanting to hear what we want. Where in the word of God does He say that the source of all blessings is from a father? The root command about parenting is Command #5 about honoring parents (not father alone) so that one enjoys long life. There are cultural dynamics and specifics that were very specific to the children of Israel. They can not and should not be applied holistically in every situation and society, and hence God's covenant that He calls a New covenant. God is the only source of truth, and we err when we swallow personal interpretation as 100% truth, and we elevate a preacher to such a high status that we can not correct them. So pray when a father abandons his family and goes out of their lives completely and chooses not to want anything to do with the family or children and then here we use God to put burdens on the already affected children that if they don't go and look for their dad and make peace, they have no blessings??? Seriously? Is this not what Christ meant when He told the pharisees that they have created burdens to keep people out of the kingdom of God? Can anyone imagine how a child who was rejected by father feels on hearing that his blessings must come from this very father, and so the onus of getting them is on him sourjourning to look for this father? Can any said Christian imagine such trauma, burden, guilt, and pain on such a child? At what point do we correct the wrong messages, or what is the difference between us and catholics and other cults who can not question or contradict what they are told? Even to refer to Christ in the storm as looking like a "genie" is blasphemy!
I agree with you 100% I can only imagine a pain of a child who grew up with a struggling and emotionally damaged mother. This child needs healing and not additional trauma. When a spouse shows contempt and open disregard to the other, why would one continue subjecting themselves to such pain in the name of Purpose of marriage? While I agree that no one is beyond redemption, I wish we would look at things holistically and in reality.
