    "You go to war with the Army you have" All that matters is that you got the job done, Who cares how others do it. Us backyard builders have to improvise when we don't have fancy shops and equipment. Keep up the good work.

      One of the best hot rod guys I knew used to use an old oak tree to do all kinds of work. One big limb had a chain hoist and a post made to keep from sagging for pulling bodies and motors etc. He also had a huge chain wrapped around it that He used to pull frames and accident work that he'd anchor down to anchors he put in the concrete pad.
      He passed away about 15 years ago. But there wasn't much he couldn't or wouldn't do and if he needed a tool he built it.

    Sometimes I call myself an idiot savant and feel your pain on these projects as well. You are far from a moron and we share the same vision when it comes to seeing the inner beauty in a derelict machine. The reward will be driving your own 57 roadster creation that many dream of but are not as willing to put in the time money and hard work to achieve! You're on the right path.

    Sometimes the difference between genius and moron is in the follow through. As in, if it works you're a genius, if it doesn't... The guys that wait until everything is "safe" or "correct" have half finished projects that they will to their kids when they get old. That puts you in the genius class.

    I did a frame off resto on my 58. I jacked the car up about 24" and put 4 big jack stands under the body near the rockers front and back then i used a jack to lower the frame from the body as i removed the body bolts. Rolled frame out from under it. Repeat process for installing frame after i painted it and cleaned and painted the bottom of the body. Worked like a charm and i did it all by myself. 58 has X frame so it was pretty narrow except for the rear axle which i removed prior to lowering the frame so the axle wouldnt hit my jackstands as i rolled it out

    • @60chevyjim
      @60chevyjim 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i do something similar with 59 and 60 chevys but i leave the rear in and i put long 4x4's on top of the jack stands and unbolt the body first .

    Great job making a 4door hardtop into a 2 door convertible. Here in northern Indiana USA, we had a guy make a 4 door hardtop into a 4dr. convertible for his driver/parade car. Shaved door handles helped the look. This 2 door convertible will get the looks.

    I like it your taking a POS car that nobody wanted and doing something cool with it. Convertibles are cool I never see another convertible like mine. I'm always the only 64 Chevelle convertible at a car show there just so rare most of them rotted beyond repair over the years. I'm gonna assume it's the same for the 57 Chevy I saw one 57 last week at the main street Manchester car show I haven't seen one in years.

    Dude... A second floor jack is a game changer. I know you don't do much modern stuff, but having a regular jack and a long-reach low-profile jack (for the modern things) is a good way to go. Then you get the best of both worlds. I wouldn't go back to just one jack since having a pair for the past 10+ years.
    A hoist would be nice too... but... dream a little dream at a time.

Including taking the old engine back to the junk yard.
