I love The French Dispatch. I was surprised how much I love it. I like most of Wes Anderson's movies but this one really touched me in a way none of the others did.
I put it on the in the background sometimes while I do chores around the house.
Its absolutely my favourite of his works. I find it absolutely beautiful and ultimately very soothing.
I am shocked at your suggestion that people don't like it and that it's 'difficult' ....

I'm glad you loved the film this much, and i hope the video opened some new doors for you regarding Anderson's work. 😀
and it seems you have been familiar with his work prior to watching The French Dispatch, i meant that towards people who are having their first impression of Anderson's work through watching this film.

I'm amazed at how small your channel is! the is your first video I've watched and I had expected a channel of hundreds of thousands of subscribers since the video was so well done and the points so well made. Excited to watch your other videos! Hopefully you'll blow up soon

That's funny that some people think he 'overdid it' on the French Dispatch because those are the aspects I like the most. Not since The Grand Budapest Hotel has he gone so far into what makes his name short-hand for a very specific style.

Thank you for this video -- extremely thoughtful analysis and beautifully done review about a film that you would probably agree does not lend itself to easy analysis. I was simply blown away by the French Dispatch from every perspective, though I can understand why many might not like it. Keep up the great work Film Rain!

The French Dispatch has almost nothing to do with France. It's the adult Wes Anderson remembering the image if France in the mind of the young Wes Anderson as conjured by the writers of the New Yorker. There's the real France, how the writers interpreted this, the image in the mind of the young Wes Anderson, the remembrance of this image in the mind of the old Wes Anderson, the translation of this into film, and then the image the film conjures in your mind.

I guess from a point of view of a french person the things you mentioned can be understood, and as you said we should not forget that the whole perspective of the film is from a foreign director none the less an 'American' director

Sorry no. Wes Anderson is not a postmodernist. Please read a book about structuralism and postmodernism. Ta

I would appreciate it if you could elaborate on your opinion, I'm eager to discuss it.
making false assumptions though! is unnecessary I think.

How long have you got? 😆. I think the trap people fall into is that any 'weird, quirky and at the same time stylish is called 'post-modern' which isn't right. It's a term borrowed from architecture. The move away from the modern. In philosophical terms it covers an extremely broad spectrum, but one of it's tenets is the questioning of the pasts narratives, not just in art, but everywhere. Wes Anderson is a great filmmaker but he's not a post-modernist, he's actually quite a traditional filmmaker with a great eye for aesthetics. I think he may borrow and be influenced by post-modern writers like Delillo or Pynchon but his themes are pretty standard modernist ideas. But still great. I really like his movies.
