    A Christmas treat for the whole family and a classic with a special place in the hearts of ballet fans around the world.
    Peter Wright's interpretation of The Nutcracker has been enchanting children and adults alike since its first performance by The Royal Ballet in 1984. Lev Ivanov's 1892 ballet combined with Tchaikovsky's sumptuous, iconic score are presented in a festive period setting with vivid designs to make this a charming and magical production.
    Loosely based on the story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, the ballet begins in the 19th-century German home of the Stahlbaums, where they are hosting a lively Christmas party. The period setting is captured in opulent detail by Julia Trevelyan Oman's designs, which include authentic Christmas tree decorations that are magically brought to life. Wright's choreography ingeniously incorporates surviving fragments of the ballet's original material, including the sublime pas de deux for the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Prince. But in emphasizing the relationship between Clara and the Nutcracker, the production also gains a touching subtext of first love.

    I like what Christopher Car said regarding the audience only seeing the show once. The audience often pays (I assume) a lot for one ticket. I like how Mr.Carr is responsible for how the dancer should dance their very best in every performance. It is very respectful and professional of him. If I were to buy a ballet ticket coached by Mr.Carr, I know I can enjoy the show knowing every dancer there brings their best. God bless!

    wonderful, it is never Christmas until the curtain goes up on the production off the Nutcracker that my company, the garden city ballet company in Missoula Montana, put's on every year. ! I founded the company in 1984, and it is still going, am very proud off that. !!

    These English choreographers like Wright and Ashton seem to have a fondness, a weakness even, for the sisonne fermé croisé step. I see it a lot in their choreography.

    Does any Company dance Baryshnikov's choreography? He had The Best Nutcracker vs. Mouse King choreography.

    • @InsightsEnPointe
      @InsightsEnPointe 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Betsy Kirkland NYCB obviously. Pennsylvania ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet all do Balanchine.

    • @betsykirkland418
      @betsykirkland418 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InsightsEnPointe Why is this "obviously"? Those three companies dance Balanchine's choreography, which is very different from what Baryshnikov did in his 1977 The Nutcracker.
