- Grand Etang National Park lies in the centre of Grenada & is the perfect place to go on the island if you fancy a hike. There are numerous trails to cater for all levels. They say the lake is so deep that it’s bottomless & legend has it that a mermaid lives there, luring local men to their deaths. I didn’t see her, but there were certainly some huge fish in the water!
Here I head to the lookout for some amazing views across the rainforest and then attempt an “easy hike”. Not so easy after all... as you’ll see!

In Grenada, I loved my stay at Silver View Apartments (www.booking.co...) & the fantastic & friendly Siesta Hotel (www.booking.co..., both at different ends of Grand Anse Beach.

I think the bit about the lake being bottomless is actually just legend. The deepest part of the lake is about 20 - 30 feet deep. It's the crater of an extinct volcano and given it's central location is most likely the volcano that formed the island.
Thank you...I love this kind of legend! And totally get that this volcano probably formed the island. Really interesting, thanks for sharing.
I went here for my field trip
Hope it brought back some good memories!
