    4 years ago or so I was driving down the road and saw a old Comcast bucket truck for sale. 2 hours later and without permission (always ask forgiveness much easier) from wife it was in my driveway. That truck runs around constantly doing different jobs from roofing to tree limbing and Xmas light, painting, you name it. I've actually put so many miles on it it needs a new set of duals! It's on a F450 chassis with a Versalift bucket... about 36-40' reach on tippy toes. I bought it as a cool toy and now when it blows up I don't know what I'll do! Great vid thanks for sharing, happy 4th!

    Around here you can rent a 45-foot towable boom lift for $195 a day that is way more maneuverable. For the $12,000 that the skid-lift costs I could rent a lift twice a year for 30 years - and no tractor required.

      The age old rent vs buy argument. So tiring! No one will pay $195 to use the lift for a 20 minute job. …but if you already have it, you will use it. …at least that is MY experience.

    The tree company I used to take down a tree close to the house has a bucket truck that can go 50 or 60 feet (depending on which guy I was talking to). I came up with a bunch of projects I could use that for.

    We’ve got a skid lift- I bought an electric pole saw to get out and reach the limbs farther out and higher up.
    I think something like a saw haul would work well on the basket for holding the chainsaw.

  • @brunoarseneau6341
    @brunoarseneau6341 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What i found worked good and helped whit the reach was using a pole saw while in the basket a bit cumbersome but it extended my reach drastically

  • @WilReid

    For the trimming at the start, a lift and a pole saw will make quick work of hard to reach stuff. But for felling the whole tree you didn't need that lift. Sand bag on a string works fine. You throw it over a crotch, let the bag fall to the ground, untie the bag, tie on a rope, pull the string back the way it went in. Then you have as heavy a rope as needed in a tree high up for leverage. And you never had to leave the ground.

  • @rcwayt4020

    Just an idea. A battery powered pole saw would be nice for this job

    • @eosjoe565
      @eosjoe565 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A battery powered pole lopper would also be handy for the branches too thin for a chain saw. I have the Ryobi 9-foot telescopic power lopper and it is a miracle tool. Combined with a pole chain saw you can make quick work of trimming jobs.

    I have always liked trying to determine where trees will fall when cutting them. It take such skill. There is so much kinetic energy in trees just waiting to wound or kill you. It’s just so dangerous. The lift has so many uses. How will the Christmas lights get up now?

    • @eosjoe565
      @eosjoe565 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      One issue with this lift is you always have to be directly under whatever it is you are working on. You can offset this a bit by using a pole saw. An articulating boom lift is a much better tool for the job. You can stay out from under the falling limbs and one person can easily maneuver the basket to get at various parts of the tree without constantly lowering down and repositioning the tractor. The boom lift also has outriggers and it is much easier to keep the basket level. There are also a lot of things that you simply cannot get directly under.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes….but the little pull type rentable boom lifts are nearly impossible to navigate into a tight area.
      Wouldn’t it be nice to have a short boom lift attached to a tractor?

    Rex@ 3:41- "I'm still amazed how powerful these things are." He's referring to the electric chainsaw. Then right at the end if the video, after the Bible verse, he let's go with his front hand and rests it on the tree while still cutting in to the tree! I have seen this more than once with electric saws. Just because they are quiet does NOT mean that they are safe. It is still a dangerous piece of equipment, and all normal chainsaw safety gear should be used. Remember, he's amazed at how powerful it is, and he's right. Quiet but dangerous. Please remember this any time you use any chainsaw. If that saw had kicked back on him, there's NO chance his front hand would have hit the chain brake. He could have been seriously injured.
    Aside from that, the lift has definitely been useful and I look forward to seeing what you use now.
