One of Costa Rica's best kept secrets, Tenorio Volcano National Park sits near the border of Nicaragua in the Northern part of Costa Rica and is best known for the beautiful Catarata Rio Celeste and it’s azure blue waters.
The Catarata Rio Celeste trail is approximately 3.7 miles (6 kilometers) and is a relatively easy hike for most people.
Elevation gain for the Rio Celeste trail is 715 feet (218 meters). Do keep in mind that parts of the trail are steep and rocky and can get wet and muddy at times.

Thanks Michael. Glad you enjoyed it. If you are planning a trip to Costa Rica, you will not regret going to Catarata Rio Celeste. We were there at the end of August (the beginning of wet season). The hike is around 6 kilometers and takes around 3 hours to complete, if you take your time to enjoy the views.

Thank you so much! We are leaving in 3 weeks for our 20yr anniversary. I’m surprising my wife with this trip. We wanted to stop by Rio Celeste on our way out from Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge. I think if it only takes 3 hours then that may be doable, but I wasn’t sure if it would be blue during this season. From what I’ve seen from your video, we owe it to ourselves to try it out! Best video I’ve seen on Rio Celeste! Thanks for the info!

I would definitely check out Rio Celeste if I were you. If/When you go, make it a point to check out the spot where you can swim in the river, downstream from the Park.
If you are planning to go to the Dominical area (on the Pacific side), and are the "adventurous" type, I highly recommend this particular trek - this was the highlight of my trip: th-cam.com/video/URvkcKr5084/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the recommendation. We will be staying in the La Fortuna area for five days, and then she will think we are leaving to go home, but when we arrive at the airport, we will be picking up my kids, ages 16 & 19, and heading to the Manuel Antonio area for another five days. This adventure sounds perfect. We are very adventurous and I was already planning a trip down to see Nauyaca Falls! I’m so excited I can hardly stand it! This will be our first time to Costa Rica or anywhere outside the country as a family!

In La Fortuna, there is a (free) natural hot springs in a river where you can go (not too far form the Tabacon hot springs).
Nauyaca falls is quite beautiful as well.
If you are into nature stuff as much as we are, you will find that Costa Rica is insane! There is so much to see that you will just have to go back.

Rio Celeste is absolutely beautiful and well worth going to but other than this, (to my knowledge) there isn’t that much to do in the area.
If you are planning on going there multiple days, La Fortuna has many more things to see and do.

No worries! I don't know where the best place to exchange your Colones would be. With only a few exceptions, I used my credit card pretty much everywhere. The few times I did pay cash, I would pay in US$ and got back change in Colones.
