believe it or not i actually pulled my punches a lot in this video. i was in the middle of writing the script when an innocent man on tiktok ended his own life because of false grooming allegations. i shifted gears after that. i was pretty brutal in the original script and i actually don't know how i feel about that. maybe i should've kept it or maybe it was a good decision to change the tone of it. it doesn't matter now tho. for some more clarity about my stance on this book, i don't see any difference between drawing child exploitation material and writing it. there is handling child sa poorly in your fictional story and then there is writing pages and pages full of graphic descriptions of it. the book wasn't written with the intention to titillate the reader except for a few instances. it wasn't treated as an erotica yknow but that still doesn't change a lot in my eyes. not writing this story like an erotica isn't a high bar to reach. i am not clapping for that. i just hate how normalized and accepted it's become to sexualize literal kids in fiction, for obvious pleasure or for shock value and then call it art without adding any other ingredient into it. hey if you describe your half-baked shitcake as art then when someone has something to say against it you can just call them a fascho, right? there are better ways to write horror and people do it all the time. it is not the fault of the genre. i really don't understand this ongoing pissing contest among the extreme horror authors who are trying to one up each other in their depravity but for some reason never in their creativity. perhaps because latter takes more effort? i don't understand the readers of the subgenre either who think that being disentisized to content like this and not being disturbed by it somehow makes you cool. it doesn't. you're not the weird silent kid in high school anymore. you're a grown adult in your 30s with kids, bullying people online for having limits. you look pathetic.
A month or two ago a video about one of these extreme horror books popped up in my feed, and I watched a little bit so the algorithm started serving up more. Which is cool because it’s how I found your videos, but also disappointing because the genre seems pretty damn weak from a literary standpoint.
I do kind of hate that we live in a world where people can't just hate things without it leading into harassment. Good on you for reworking what you wrote. But ya, not going to defend the book.
I've watched few of Mique's videos, mostly the eroguro ones because I enjoy the genre of eroguro nansensu, a genre stemming from surrealism and counterculture of early 20th century Japan. The problem is that many only see it for weird sexual violence, not the meaning behind the symbols and the use of violence. To come back to Mique, he does seem to see books only through the lens of "Is it disturbing, do I like it or not", which is an issue if you quote Haneke in the beginning of your own book, and decide to "review" Matt Shaw's The Hub, which is nothing but csa. You can do that, but I'm judging you for it.
As a writer myself, I don’t understand the need people have to write pages and pages of a child’s sexual abuse. Are they not aware that someone out there is gonna be reading that for a very different purpose than entertainment or do they just not care?
it's not just that they are aware of that or don't care, it's pretty deliberate. in their mind, the nuances render it morally acceptable while ignoring the unambiguous reality of their throwing gas on an already raging dumpster fire. they aren't playing in an unexplored place or exorcising demons, they are showing you exactly who and what they are.
i've heard people defend things like lolicon by saying pedos will find material to jerk off to anyway and blabla so i'm assuming the reaction here would be the same. they'll find a way anyway
Speaking as a CSA victim AND a fan of splatterpunk, these authors will just take the most shocking thing they can think of and throw it in without any care for nuance or impact with the audience. I know some people would argue that’s kind of the point of splatterpunk, which yeah is true, but that doesn’t automatically excuse it’s place in the narrative lmao. Splatterpunk is meant to shock the reader, but there are better ways to do that than just describing a bunch of CSA, pointing at it like a wojack meme, and going ‘WOOOOW GUYS ISN’T THIS SHOCKING???’ It doesn’t shock people at that point, it just makes them feel gross and uncomfortable. CSA is a topic that can be explored in a sensitive and nuanced way in a splatterpunk book, but most splatterpunk authors are the exact opposite of sensitive and nuanced when it comes to their subject matter
The best way I've seen SA against children handled, it was always left vague and the focus us on the trauma the child suffered, not on the specific acts.
Women in these terrible splatter books are either “absolute nymphomaniacs” or “good little Christian girls who want to wait until marriage and would never even _think_ the word fuck, let alone say or do it” There is no in between, and sometimes one woman will go from one archetype to the other within a few chapters for, like, no reason.
the author didn't understand Funny Games at all, it's very telling about how he handles the SA. Haneke, in Funny Games, never sexualizes the mother, not even when the attackers make her undress for them, in that scene the camera only shows the mother's face (at least in the 90s version), showing her emotions of humiliation and degradation. that wasn't used as an excuse for sexualization, but instead to show how degrading was for her and to make the spectator feel uncomfortable
"She's naive, also she refers herself as a Cougar" Oh man... This is gonna be one of these "The Writer's Barely Disguised Fetish" books, isn't it? Edit: Whoop there it is
Im sick of authors treating Trigger/Content Warnings as spoilers. They AREN'T! Or, if youre a writer woth your salt, it shouldnt be. A potential reader should be able to know that a book contains CSA without that alone being a spoiler. There should be more to your writing, more to your plot, *more to your goddamned characters* than that! I watch the trailer to a show and know some major plot points but I still wanna watch it; in fact thats what *makes* me wanna watch it. This whole "Dont read if ur a weakling not into any and every form of torture lolz!" That isnt even DeadDoveDoNotEat, thats just stupid 4-chan level Edgelord bullshit.
I think the reason sa feels worse then murder is a two parter 1) everyone dies at some point, but not everyone will be assaulted to assume that everyone will be sa'd is to have no faith in humanity (because its humans that sa other humans) 2) when someone is murdered their suffering is ended, depending on what you believe theyre either in a better place, where Bad people go or just gone - but with sa their suffering is not over when the assult ends, theyre often left broken for years/forever and even if they recover theyre different, the person they were is gone but not dead
SA is a strange crime. It is one of the only crimes that has no conceivable positive outcome, it can never be done with positive intentions (misguided intentions included). But it is the crime with the most excuses, it is the crime is that is normalized the most.
I just read a scene-by-scene synopsis and just... jaw on the floor. At first when you questioned the morals of people saying they ENJOYED the book I had no idea just how much you are correct to question them. Broken Dolls makes Salo look like a picnic.
I have read Broken Dolls and loved it, but then completely forgot about it. I've been looking for a review to the story, and found this, and... I cannot remember it being *this*. I feel like there's a better book called "Broken Dolls", something about I believe a homicidal maniac obsessed with lobotomies, that's much, much better.
@@omorinintendoswitcheditionomg thank both of you for these comments because i remembered the title too and i was like "oh i think i liked this book" and when i heard the descriptions i thought i was a sick fuck who read THIS broken dolls, liked it and just didn't remember it after
The author seems gay to me? (Also gay btw) But don’t forget that gay men can still be misogynistic and hate women. He seems to not only understand women but not like them and probably liked writing this stuff. To me it seems he watched “funny games” and wrote this as some sort of self-insert.
Yeah now that i think about it it makes sense alot of the books he reviews talk about women getting abused and stuff, i used to love his vids and related to his "when im down i just want to read stuff that's awful" cause i would often watch true crime content whenever i was depressed but seeing this now and hearing this really bothers me, it reminds me of James somerton and him shitting on women repeatedly, even calling the woman that wrote love simon a heterosexual when she INFAMOUSLY was forced to come out as bi because people gave her shit for the same reason
the thing is, i’m currently writing a story that goes into depth about abuse. but it’s meant to be a reflection on the abuse that i went through, it’s meant to be an allegory. I know my story would come off as shock value to some but honestly seeing shit like this reminds me of what i don’t want my story to become. i love your videos, keep it up!
I stopped writing something that meant a lot to me because when people told me I "should try to be an author" it put into perspective what kind of psychos might read something for the opposite reason it was written.
When you placed the clip of the writer explaining their stuff. I could already tell that they are INSUFFERABLE AS FUCK LMAO "I don't write to be accepted, I write to be hated and piss people off I don't give a shit" That's immediately translates to me as "I'm not gonna write anything good"
@ArtsyFoxo when I say "I write to piss people off" I mean that I write stuff with gay people, when you say "I write to piss people off" you mean that women don't feel comfortable around you, we are not the same.
@@amethystrose2671Yes, After all I am writing a horned lizard character that frames by spewing blood onto his eyes to his own clothing, and femboys and foxgirls edit: squad of dogs and reptiles
I like the point about extreme horror authors needing to put actual TWs for their books. May Leitz just deadass puts all her TWs on the cover of the books lmao Edit: no fucking way literally THE NEXT FRAME after I hit enter was the cover of the book I was talking about lmfao
i actually love how you always have characters for these books, like the last ones were cars from disney and now it's tellytubbies 😭 it makes it watchable
Darker topics can be done, but if they're treated with respect. Some things are better left implied or up to the reader's imagination which makes it scarier to me. Not saying that's always the case of course.
Here's one way to make things interesting in this story (it's a complete rehaul though) A woman and her daughter live in an isolated neighborhood. One day, someone invades their house and when things were getting dangerous, the woman kills the guy tosave her daughter. Because word spreads fast in the very isolated neighborhood, it is now the woman's goal to cover up that anything ever happened in that house. With every action she takes to hide the truth, she starts to question her morals more and more until it gets to the point where her daughter, the person she did all the morally questionable stuff for, gets in harm's way because of the drastic actions.
11:56 “I don’t write to be accepted… I like to piss people off because I’m a bitch”… what an edgelord, it’s giving literary Jeffree Star. 🙄 The book was trash… content aside, it has rushed, flat characters and put its full weight on shock for shock’s sake. Good thing it was on Kindle Unlimited and I didn’t have to pay for it.
That part of the video made me actually yell and wake up my partner. The Jeffree Star comparison is so accurate it hurts. My "edgy" friends and I all the went through so much, trying to fit in with the crowd. Still traumatized tbh, and this was roughly 15 years ago (currently 26yo)
That's kinda sad, to be honest. Splatterpunk used to be a good genre that brought some classics, such as Hellraiser or stories by David J. Schow. And seeing it go downward spiral like that, thanks to these "authors", almost makes me cry. Kinda makes me think about trying to write my own splatterpunk story, though
@gameprosvet my main question is why do 90% of splatter punk books always go after women, children, animals, and old people.. I understand they want to be edgy but why do you have to write children and animals being molested.🧍 it's low-key wired. Also I feel like anyone can read splatter punk because it's fictional and no matter how much you make your characters emotional or human none of it matters because it's words on a paper. But I can't stand the book broken doll's. It's just like the other books except children get molested for shock value which is really stupid.
@@tiannalogan9712 I agree. In my opinion if you have such graphic display of violence it should at least have a message behind it and not just be there for shock value only
Why are so many extreme horror authors incapable of developing characters lol. So many shit things are saved by having good/compelling characters but they can't even do that. MAN I'm so excited to hear you talk about Fluids though!!
I literally was having the worst morning and telling my partner about it then I got the notification of a new morpho video and I lit up and announced "MY FAVORITE TH-camR DROPPED A NEW VIDEO EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OKAY" and considering the content, that's probably ridiculous, but I read this horrible fucking book already so it will be nice to have your take to soften the pain of having read it
I heavily dislike this author/youtuber for their responses to critics on his review for the "book" The Hub by matt shaw alone. When people called him out for offering praise to whats bascially CP, he decides to go for the respone "i hate children". Literrally birds of an icky feather will flock together. (can't stand Matt Shaw either)
The more extreme horror content I consume, the more I'm shocked by how boring so much of it is. What's that? Some girls get tortured and violated? That's what the last six were about. Give me some creativity instead of exploiting the same edgy shit again and again.
I liked your delineation between enjoying the experience of a work of fiction and truly enjoying it. I very much enjoyed Saya no Uta and Happy Sugar Life as an experience, but they arent exactly enjoyable works. Theyre heavy, and hard to get through, but I am glad that I got to experience them. Meanwhile, I find it hard to see this book as worthwhile.
@@whoareyoutoaccuseme6588 The main chara's brain disease actually triggered my migraines, and that had happened to me with a few RPG Maker horrors as well. Unfortunately, it means I have to take em in chunks, and possibly while mind-altered by pain meds. I very much appreciate the sensory assault the creative team was going for, but a "toned-down - literally" version would've been appreciated... 😅
When i hear the synopsis of the book i think its about a mother going all rambo on home invader's. enjoying every minute of it taking pleasure in there suffering similar to the ending of fluids. Only to traumatize her daughter who would then only see her mother as a monster.
The Last House on the Left is similar, sort of. There was also a movie with pretty much the same plot as what you described, but a husband and wife team dispatch the home invaders. Pretty common storyline, all things considered.
I haven’t finished the video so I know nothing about the book but in my experience with being very close to abuse survivors, continuing to put yourself in dangerous situations is a thing that definitely happens. That aspect seems completely realistic to me.
lol nvm just finished the video. Abuse victims being naive and continuously getting into dangerous situations because it’s all they know is realistic. Just not in this way.
I wish the twist was the mom being the actual psycho since the guy didn’t seem too interested in coming in. Like the mom secretly wants to keep a squeaky clean exterior to hide her desire for vengeance against men… or something? Or the guy resembles her ex so much she snaps and goes psycho? Like this is really lacking shock value outside child abuse and says even less. :/
The fact that this book is supposedly [that's in very lose quotes] inspired by Funny Games is insulting, because at least Funny Games had the fact it could get away with being schlocky but good with two men who were adept at manipulation; this book just....drops the ball on what its trying to take inspiration from. This book should have been left as a first draft - if not just thrown in the trash when it was a manuscript[or had the computer surprise combust if it was written on a computer].
Subscribed for the facts-spitting around 21:55 - I genuinely started laughing out loud because of how ridiculous it sounded when put so perfectly. Well done. "You love comparing things so much..."
It’s funny the way these “extreme” authors always end up falling into the same pattern. They always rush so quickly through the beginning of a book so they can get to the “juicy” parts which is ultimately their downfall. They spend one chapter introducing a character but that gives the reader zero time to form a connection with a protagonist. When you skimp on the build-up of a character then it makes anything that happens to them fall flat. if they spent the majority of their book writing a compelling and relatable protagonist then the violence would be way more impactful to the audience because by that time I’m invested in this character. Also men yet again failing to write a believable female character lol if my mom was in the situation and someone knocked on our door in the middle of the night she would call the police before even peaking out the window and God forbid they got in the house my mom would go Jodie Foster on their ass.
You are insanely good at analyzing extreme horror. I love a gruesome, shocking book so much. It sucks that so many of them feel just exploitative. Why does CSA, ince5t, and a3use of women have to be the only thing? It really doesn't have to be. Character development doesn't have to glorify the killer, but rather than having them be just a "boogie man" giving them a backstory that makes them feel like a person. I feel like that's what so many of these mess up. The victim is just 'The Victim' and the killer is just 'The Killer'
I loved the authors book reviews but didn't know that he would stoop so low to have THAT in his books, it also explains why he hasn't uploaded in quite a while. If anyone would like similar book reviews I am planning on doing book reviews soon
All the whiplash from everything happening is not even shocking in the way they want it to be, its just laughable, i can just imagine the author writing this and being like "yeah, this'll get 'em hehe"
Talking about SA used for shock value in Extreme horror books... Idk if I'm too late but still here comes a fair warning: Do not read Hogg. Not because it's "too extreme" which is how it's usually advertised but because the author used to publicly support nambla (and I promise you that you can tell while reading the book, I was 12 pages in when I realized it was very sus how normalized the SA was in his story by all the kids involved, like... It didn't feel like it was for impact, it didn't feel like it had a purpose, so I did a little research and yeah). Also, I'm thrilled to know you liked Fluids! Have you read Tender is the flesh? That one is as disturbing as it is amazing and so well written as well.
@@mainmorpho Yeah, sadly they have been around for sometime, south park even made an episode about it, and as for why none of those pigs are behind bars and why the association has not be dismantled well... your guess is as good as mine
I wish I had found this video 48 hours ago. I just finished Watson's other book "Be My Friend" not knowing about him or this book so I can say with absolutely no bias that WATSON IS NOT A GOOD WRITER. His stories should stay in the Tumblr drafts. Unlike this book, Be My Friend had excessive trigger warnings followed by little to no graphic content but then didn't put warnings before the most graphic and descriptive sections??? Make it make sense.
Of all your videos, this is the first one that I feel is genuinely angry. And with good reason. Thank you for charging against the normalisation and, worst, exploitative commodification of this sort of crap. Much in the way that you say that it's messed up to talk about enjoying or falling in love with a book like this, I cannot say I enjoyed all of this video, because, you know, jesus freaking christ, right? But I am glad that you made it. Please keep up the great work.
omfg you're so right about the dialogue, but you still have Hailey Hughes leaving an effusive review about how well-developed the characters are homie WHERE
i think she edited her review and was like "i was being nice" 💀 honestly over 90% of reviews on goodreads are from his friends and ppl who received an ARC and i would die before i trust a positive review coming from an ARCer
The Splatterpunk screan is turly somthing. Writers having an ago that is taller then the mountion Everest, and mountion Fuji combaind. Acting as if they are above any kind of criticisum, and act as if the people who criticise them are "snowlakes", whaile they keep making exuses for they own bad writing. Only want to shock people, rather then telling an actually well writen story, with well writen characters, and serious subject metters being treated for shock value only. Most stuff being something below trash, and sometimes once in a full mone an actually gem comes out. And readers read, and like everything withouth thinking about it more, or just don't criticise anything in fear of not being part of the community.
I’m not adversed to writing disturbing fiction, but this just comes to show that like most other types of media, most extreme horror is also the equivalent of junk food
I read most extreme horror books the same way I read porn, admittedly. Just came for the violence, and witness the outlandish ideas these guys come up with.
Video idea: you read a book or movie that isn't that scary, something like Harry potter and act its a really messed up horror story. You could also act like it's one of the best horror book aswell. I know this is kinda off topic for your channel but you could maybe use it for April fools if you still want to continue this channel. But lastly of all, you can continue or stop this channel as any time. But, I'll be one of the first people there to see a new video
that's actually a really interesting idea idk if i can pull it off but i'm gonna think about it thank you 💖 also i will keep making videos i just needed some space thank you for the support as well 🥺
I love Funny Games too lol it's not the type of film I usually enjoy, but it was just so enthralling. I'm mixed on this book....I was enthralled but in the end it didn't stay with me like Girl Next Door (mainly cuz Sylvia Likens stayed with me for eternity) or the Playground.
So I read this book about a week ago. I had seen all the praise and was tentatively hopeful for a good book. The most praise I can give it is that it’s better written than Aaron Beauregard’s Playground. I also found it hard to believe that the character would just keep going along with what the villain told them to do? It was my same problem with No One Rides For Free. The requests keep getting more insane and the characters never think “yeah screw that, I’d rather die fighting.” They’re all so passive that it’s clear the author sees them more as Sims they can torture
i mean i do understand why lauren would be hesitant at first cuz the guy was throwing some really insane threats and i could even understand her going along with it at first maybe due to shock and stress but assaulting your own kid?? how is it realistic for a mother to accept that so easily and not try to fight even once. it is incredibly stupid
representing the main characters in a story like this with Teletubbies is icon behaviour, also how does it make so much sense that the guy who wrote this didn't bother to make his bed before filming...
Hey, question! Is there ANY indication in the book that the boy with the man is upset or scared before the man comes into the home? If the idea is that all this happened already to this little boy he has with him and history just keeps repeating, shouldn't the boy be understandably just flipping out and crying and screaming his head off? The fact that the boy is just silent is the thing that for me just makes it all seem just silly and ridiculous.
nah the kid doesn't even talk and there was nothing about the kid looking uncomfortable. like lauren saw them, thought the guy was hot, invited them in, went to the bathroom to check her appearance so the guy might wanna do her and then came back to the man holding a gun up to tully's head. the boy was just used as an item to be tortured it felt like. lauren didn't even care about him. she was always talking about how horrible she was feeling about the whole thing and not feeling bad for the boy who she was hurting in unimaginable ways. can't even feel bad for lauren but the absolute switch she had with her character was annoying too like what happened to being a good person? becoming a monster in 2 minutes? that's not how humans work
Yo I’m reading that right now as a recommendation from my sister who had a visceral reaction to that book but won’t tell me what it’s about so that I’ll read it. I’ve gotten to some gory parts but nothing crazy but I’m petrified since my sister is an avid extreme horror reader and she said that one made her sick 😭 wish me luck
11:49 Ngl, the way this dude talks is making me feel homophobic, and I'm queer. Also, "the bar for [x] is apparently in hell" is now a quote I will be incorporating into my everyday lexicon.
This is a reach but it feels like the author got to writing after watching the "good movies that are cruel" video by "Elvis The Alien" not only does he talk about Funny Games but he also talks about "Speak no evil" where there's a killer family that kidnaps young children from their families after killing them, then later kills them and the cycle repeats, which is similar to what happened to the little boy and girl in this book. Am I insane?
sadly no This book came out in July of 2023 and Elvis the Aliens video came out 1 month ago. Maybe if he had the book would have had something to it. (But the movies that were mentioned in the video by Elvis have been out longer so the author could have been "inspired" by them)
I feel so guilty laughing my ass off through these videos knowing the time and brain cells you had to sacrifice to read these books. Ty for your service!
I just read Brainwyrms by Allison Rumfitt and it deals with the grooming and SA of a minor in a MUCHH more sympathetic and interesting way while still having plenty of gross out shit in it. To some extent, I can respect writing gross shit just for the sake of it, this is a free country, but if you're gonna publish something with this much CSA at least *try* to understand the plight of children who have suffered something like that. If anything, having sympathetic characters that we can connect with emotionally makes the story more impactful. How can you read so many horror stories and not understand that a key part of making something horrific is the connection we have with the characters, villain or victim. Also 10/10 would recommend Brainwyrms. Absolute gross horrifying novel that actually has a fcking point and an interesting premise. Look up TWs tho for sure.
These videos are a wonderful time. I hope you're doing as much self care as possible and staying safe though, all this depraved content can't be good for the mind. I am at the same time happy you take your time to make thoughts and honest critiques of extreme horror books while being worried about your mental wellbeing. Thank you & hope you're keeping well!
@@tiannalogan9712 yes here is the basic plot and spoilers from what I remember. An outcast of society is a sex worker. He does very degrading things for his work. He is managed by an evil guy. The only friend this outcast has ever had becomes famous and is in town for an event. They meet up and experience deep love and friendship. Something happens with the outcasts manager where he gets in big trouble. The outcast and his friend end up kidnapped and tortured by this sadistic man and his girlfriend. Gross, depraved, nasty, evil scenes of torture and abuse happen. I think there is a good ending, but I can’t remember. I liked it because there were themes of being different that I related to. Also deep feelings of love and regret that the characters shared together.
in German, you pronounce "Michael" kind of "Mish-ah-ail" its not perfect, because you need a ch-sound which english doesn't have. Its a bit like "ch" in "chance" but without your tongue touching the roof of your mouth in the beginning. As if having a side lisp.
Can you please read 'Pet' by Aiden Messer? I read the entire thing in one sitting and it was kind of okay; it had the same tropes as with most extreme horror novellas and this one definitely isn't a standout among them in terms of 'disturbing' factor. However, it does have some pretty decent characters with alright character arches and a pretty satisfying ending.
Have you read or considered reading Exquisite Corpse by William Martin? The book is still sold under Poppy Z. Brite, but the author has long transitioned. Anyway, it’s the first time I have gone into a splatterpunk and not hated it. It’s descriptive and holds all the trigger warnings known to mankind, but it has stuff to say beyond senseless gore and fluids being splashed onto your mind’s eye in Times New Roman.
I remember growing up late 90s in the goth subculture that it was mandatory you read poppy z Brite. I think it was the book, Drawing Blood, where Brite had stated that Trent Reznor was a influence for a character. So, based on that I had to read the book.
He's not telling them to read it in the first place. But yeah, all Extreme Horror authors should put disclaimers to ward off anyone who would be potentially offended. Some of us here just wanna read gore porn in peace.
That is insane esp as a writer who exists to piss people off. When I wanna piss people off I just put in gay people or have a character make a joke at the expense of conservatives, not- this. If anything I do the opposite by showing respect and empathy/sympathy to victims because that pisses people off more than anything.
I love your channel But if you wanna leave the Splatterpunk for a time at least, I would understand There's a lot of genres that has baaaaadd books You should probably give em a chance in the channel
as a good palate cleanser to shit like this, i'd recommend Flood or Shella by Andrew Vachss. since McCarthy died he's probably the best american writer still alive. edit-also dead, ftw.
Unfortunately, there was a Japanese game with the objective to SA all of the female characters and you'd succeed when you'd "mind break" them. It was horrific, and rightfully banned.
I could not AGREE with you MORE about the prior content warnings, I can stomach some of the most vile stories and movies out there and have quite the passion for true crime and the psychology behind it, but I absolutely draw the line at animal abuse and can't even read about it, let alone see it pretend in movies (that might be silly to some but it honestly causes some horrible emotional pain for me personally). I feel like the writer saying 'oh this is extreme be warned..' is just an even cheaper way to shock you because your mind starts running at what it possibly could be and then when you start reading and are like wtf is this shit, the writer is like, aha got youuuu.
I was just thinking about this! One thing I hate about the splatter punk community is how they consider trigger warnings and triggering content as a "spoiler ☝️🤓" it's not a spoiler! If your book contains SA, r🍇pe, abuse, torture, and death towards women, children, and animals you should let your readers know! It's not a spoiler it's a serious topic that actually happens in the real world! But in the splatter punk community it's taken as shock value and spoilers so if you warn readers or put trigger warnings you'd be spoiling the book according to them. Which is really stupid. 😒
@@tiannalogan9712 as if they think its 'spoilers' giving content warnings LOL its honestly just another excuse to be edgy as fuck really, isn't it? "Content warnings? Pfft... Not here, babe... We're too badass for that."
@@tiannalogan9712i guess that's what happens when you have a community that exclusively consumes content for its shock value and nothing else seemingly :/
oh my god i absolutely get that. I have a lotta triggers related to specific trauma of mine, but one of my worst is with animal abuse and thats not even based on trauma, its just because I work with animals and have loved them all my life. It’s that one specific thing that i just cannot deal with. It always has caused me horrible anxiety, even if it looks absolutely fake asf in a movie or smthn. My AP English teacher, bless her heart, did as much as she could think to to help me be aware of triggers when doing required reading, and when I read a very specific book abt the Vietnam war (forgetting the name rn), she outright asked me if she could borrow my copy so she could put sticky notes all over to cover the text, then made sure to tell me not to read anything between where the sticky notes poked outta the pages because it was basically just a very graphic description of them killing a baby animal of some kind (buffalo? Maybe??? I cannot remember once again 😭). Supposedly there was significance to it in the story, as the whole thing was basically meant to show how the war completely destroyed the mental states of the guys who got drafted into it, especially when so many were so young. Morals got thrown out the window and all that. One of my classmates, who is basically known for his love of pretty gnarly horror stuff (he actually likes some of the same indie horror games that I do which was cool to learn about) and being pretty straight-faced about most fiction, openly was like “that was actually pretty sickening it was hard to get through those pages”, which cued me in on just HOW bad that shit was. Like, holy shit. Anyone who pulls the “youre just sensitive stop looking at this stuff if you cant handle it” card is honestly just a shitty person to me.
@@exist4046 Thanks so much for your detailed reply, I love it! Also your english teacher was an absolute angel lmao. That book sounds generally really good, I really enjoy vietnam/WW2 media and reminds me of something like Jacobs Ladder, as it tackles all the psychology behind it (minus the goverment drugging their own men lmao) and I absolutely agree with you about animal abuse, for me as well there is no specific trauma (though some things later on didn't help), but just my absolute autistic adoration for animals lol. I do remember when being younger back in the early 90's, there was a lot of animal activists that would go round and put stickers/posters up of mutilated animals, and they'd purposely stick them in places you couldn't miss and they would genuinely terrify and upset me to the point I had to cover my eyes whenever we passed them.. It's like, did those people ever consider traumatising little kids for the rest of their lives? lmao.. Just pointless shock value that could be done in a more tactful way then forcing it down their throats and getting people upset!
Anyways, if you *want* to Read a Horror Story that'll *actually* Disturb You, then read Borrasca. There's Extreme Subject Matter, sure, but its Handled Way Better then whatever this 'Book' is
the weirdest part about people writing this horrid shit is that they act like they're being oppressed when someone goes "hey why did you write that what's wrong with you"
they're always going through a dark time too lol. at least they can be logical about it and expect that they're gonna get backlash for their work but they immediately jump into victim mode it's so pathetic. none of these child sa writers would explain their book in detail to someone in real life without expecting weird looks in return but they for some reason do online?? like let your employer and coworkers at your 9 to 5 read ur work and then we'll talk 💀
honestly they're literally the same movie and worth watching since they both have really amazing actors and the same director BUT the original version messed with me more since it's in dutch and i don't understand it so the tension was much bigger for me with that one. i can watch the remake easily but the og version still gives me shivers even after so many rewatches
Im back logging your videos exqueeze me uwu But! Wow! Painful! Yikes! We hate to see it! Usually I consider myself a bit of a script doctor but I diagnose this one with pull the plug. I think the reason this fell so flat is the author lacked a clear understanding of humans in general. Not even just psychology, judt basic human instinct. He's so focused on horrifying, he does these cheap shortcuts to try and make the reader react. Thats why the dialogue is so flat. And not to psychoanalyze the author but based on how he writes women from this book, I can tell he hes *probably* not a very good listener when it comes to understanding people and just. How they feel sometimes. I'llend this one with a question-- you got any favorite splatters you'd rec? :0
I hope you will make a video about Zola which you mentioned you read some months ago, because I really want to know what the "extreme amount of cheese" in all the reviews of the book is hinting at but I also really don't want to read it because I would like to keep thinking of Émile Zola when I heard the word Zola instead of some cheesy story. *ba dum tss*
I was just about to say this! 💀 Bert felt like a self insert! I never believed in plot armor until I read broken dolls. Every time someone fought back against him or even tried to get the upper hand they would either become stupid and do whatever he said or give the weapon back to him! Bert felt like the main character! he was untouchable. The book had so much potential with the characters and the setting but all of it was wasted on 8 chapters of children being tortured and botty raped.🧍
The book sucks so bad please do not waste your money and do not waste your time 💀 I didn't spend any money on the book I just downloaded the PDF off of a book website for free I didn't even pay for the book and I was still disappointed 🧍 I wasted 2 hours of my life on a book about 3 adults being idiots and children being botty raped and one of the children being killed and the villain winning🧍. I can kinda see how the main character let her guard down since there was a child present. As a survivor of domestic abuse as well, I could see how someone would put their guard down in that situation.
@@mainmorpho that part was weird, I will agree with that, but I still think helping them, was understandable. It's common for predators to use this tactic to create a sense of false security as you said in your video, and her being a mom herself I can see why she let her guard down in that aspect
@@serenafraticelli1030 I can also see that, but how it’s handled is as poorly as Morpho described it, in turn, taking away from the realism of the situation
believe it or not i actually pulled my punches a lot in this video. i was in the middle of writing the script when an innocent man on tiktok ended his own life because of false grooming allegations. i shifted gears after that. i was pretty brutal in the original script and i actually don't know how i feel about that. maybe i should've kept it or maybe it was a good decision to change the tone of it. it doesn't matter now tho. for some more clarity about my stance on this book, i don't see any difference between drawing child exploitation material and writing it. there is handling child sa poorly in your fictional story and then there is writing pages and pages full of graphic descriptions of it. the book wasn't written with the intention to titillate the reader except for a few instances. it wasn't treated as an erotica yknow but that still doesn't change a lot in my eyes. not writing this story like an erotica isn't a high bar to reach. i am not clapping for that.
i just hate how normalized and accepted it's become to sexualize literal kids in fiction, for obvious pleasure or for shock value and then call it art without adding any other ingredient into it. hey if you describe your half-baked shitcake as art then when someone has something to say against it you can just call them a fascho, right? there are better ways to write horror and people do it all the time. it is not the fault of the genre. i really don't understand this ongoing pissing contest among the extreme horror authors who are trying to one up each other in their depravity but for some reason never in their creativity. perhaps because latter takes more effort? i don't understand the readers of the subgenre either who think that being disentisized to content like this and not being disturbed by it somehow makes you cool. it doesn't. you're not the weird silent kid in high school anymore. you're a grown adult in your 30s with kids, bullying people online for having limits. you look pathetic.

A month or two ago a video about one of these extreme horror books popped up in my feed, and I watched a little bit so the algorithm started serving up more. Which is cool because it’s how I found your videos, but also disappointing because the genre seems pretty damn weak from a literary standpoint.
i think it's mostly the newer stuff which is also what the veteran fans are saying so we gotta dig deep and find the ancient tomes

Women in these terrible splatter books are either “absolute nymphomaniacs” or “good little Christian girls who want to wait until marriage and would never even _think_ the word fuck, let alone say or do it”
There is no in between, and sometimes one woman will go from one archetype to the other within a few chapters for, like, no reason.
most splatterpunk authors don’t know how to write competently
like a Madonna-whore complex
Honestly the plot twist would’ve been better if it had been making a random character a werewolf or something
it would be funny ngl
the author didn't understand Funny Games at all, it's very telling about how he handles the SA.
"She's naive, also she refers herself as a Cougar"
Oh man...

I think the reason sa feels worse then murder is a two parter
1) everyone dies at some point, but not everyone will be assaulted to assume that everyone will be sa'd is to have no faith in humanity (because its humans that sa other humans)
2) when someone is murdered their suffering is ended, depending on what you believe theyre either in a better place, where Bad people go or just gone - but with sa their suffering is not over when the assult ends, theyre often left broken for years/forever and even if they recover theyre different, the person they were is gone but not dead

Darker topics can be done, but if they're treated with respect. Some things are better left implied or up to the reader's imagination which makes it scarier to me. Not saying that's always the case of course.
Here's one way to make things interesting in this story (it's a complete rehaul though)
A woman and her daughter live in an isolated neighborhood.

"Extreme Horror" is just the new Creepypasta circa early 2010's, only they're being sold for actual money.

I haven’t finished the video so I know nothing about the book but in my experience with being very close to abuse survivors, continuing to put yourself in dangerous situations is a thing that definitely happens. That aspect seems completely realistic to me.

The fact that this book is supposedly [that's in very lose quotes] inspired by Funny Games is insulting, because at least Funny Games had the fact it could get away with being schlocky but good with two men who were adept at manipulation; this book just....drops the ball on what its trying to take inspiration from.

Hey, question! Is there ANY indication in the book that the boy with the man is upset or scared before the man comes into the home? If the idea is that all this happened already to this little boy he has with him and history just keeps repeating, shouldn't the boy be understandably just flipping out and crying and screaming his head off? The fact that the boy is just silent is the thing that for me just makes it all seem just silly and ridiculous.
nah the kid doesn't even talk and there was nothing about the kid looking uncomfortable. like lauren saw them, thought the guy was hot, invited them in, went to the bathroom to check her appearance so the guy might wanna do her and then came back to the man holding a gun up to tully's head. the boy was just used as an item to be tortured it felt like. lauren didn't even care about him. she was always talking about how horrible she was feeling about the whole thing and not feeling bad for the boy who she was hurting in unimaginable ways. can't even feel bad for lauren but the absolute switch she had with her character was annoying too like what happened to being a good person? becoming a monster in 2 minutes? that's not how humans work
The way my face was like 😦 for most of the video. I heard *Gone to see the Riverman* is a pretty good extreme horror book if you wanna give it a shot.
@tiannagraham5210 i wish people would just SAY what the bad stuff is! "Oh I cant tell because its a spoilers" BRO I WANNA READ YOUR BOOK JUST TELL ME
love love love the use of teletubbies as the characters
11:49 Ngl, the way this dude talks is making me feel homophobic, and I'm queer.
Also, "the bar for [x] is apparently in hell" is now a quote I will be incorporating into my everyday lexicon.
That's himophobia 🫢
Love the fluids Rec
this boy reminds me of hogg or any samuel r. Dalaney books
I’ve always loved funny games. I’m going to live my truth. This book wishes it was half as good as funny games fanfiction.
The author seems insufferable lmao
This is a reach but it feels like the author got to writing after watching the "good movies that are cruel" video by "Elvis The Alien" not only does he talk about Funny Games but he also talks about "Speak no evil" where there's a killer family that kidnaps young children from their families after killing them, then later kills them and the cycle repeats, which is similar to what happened to the little boy and girl in this book. Am I insane?
I was thinking this too!
sadly no
This book came out in July of 2023 and Elvis the Aliens video came out 1 month ago.
Maybe if he had the book would have had something to it.
(But the movies that were mentioned in the video by Elvis have been out longer so the author could have been "inspired" by them)
So I started listening to your videos at work and I am so glad I have headphones for this one in particular
💀
I feel so guilty laughing my ass off through these videos knowing the time and brain cells you had to sacrifice to read these books. Ty for your service!
MAY LEITZ MENTION YEAAAAAAHHHH ZOINKS ZOINKS ZOINKS
Look up TWs tho for sure.
i read the synopsis and it sounds interesting i added it to my tbr thank you
Thank you!
I give this book 2 DK buts out of twenty surprised/uncomfortable Kevin Harts, for a final score of one burnt toast Mike Wazowski.
neat
There is a sequel to this book where stuff is explained more (towards the end) It would be cool to see you cover that.
the author gets on my nerves real hard so i will not be reading any of his works :/
@@mainmorpho his next book involves the dark-web, as another trope
@@redherringoffshoot2341 What's the book about? Because broken dolls was awful 💀 so what's the sequel like? 🧍

These videos are a wonderful time. I hope you're doing as much self care as possible and staying safe though, all this depraved content can't be good for the mind. I am at the same time happy you take your time to make thoughts and honest critiques of extreme horror books while being worried about your mental wellbeing. Thank you & hope you're keeping well!
thank you for ur concern ♡ i break my soul by reading these books then go fix it by watching brittany broski so i'll be okay jsjsjs
This is the video i needed to find during my long shift
I actually liked Broken Dolls: Deliverance by the same author. However, I tried reading it for a second time and didn’t really like it anymore
Can you explain the book? Broken dolls was a horrible book 💀 so I'm wondering if the sequel makes any sense and has a plot and character development.
Oh hell yeah! Another banger of a video. Love the edit with mejmejs. Missed your uploads. However i will be bleaching my ears from the content xD
"I write to piss people off lol" yeah do that as much as you want just MAKE IT GOOD AND DON'T PISS OFF ACTUAL VICTIMS DUDE 😭
He's not telling them to read it in the first place.
But yeah, all Extreme Horror authors should put disclaimers to ward off anyone who would be potentially offended.
Some of us here just wanna read gore porn in peace.
I mean I guess he succeeded lmao I’m pissed
That is insane esp as a writer who exists to piss people off. When I wanna piss people off I just put in gay people or have a character make a joke at the expense of conservatives, not- this. If anything I do the opposite by showing respect and empathy/sympathy to victims because that pisses people off more than anything.
I love your channel
But if you wanna leave the Splatterpunk for a time at least, I would understand
There's a lot of genres that has baaaaadd books
You should probably give em a chance in the channel
as a good palate cleanser to shit like this, i'd recommend Flood or Shella by Andrew Vachss. since McCarthy died he's probably the best american writer still alive.
edit-also dead, ftw.
thank u daddy morpho i love you
i love you too my child
Unfortunately, there was a Japanese game with the objective to SA all of the female characters and you'd succeed when you'd "mind break" them. It was horrific, and rightfully banned.
does it have "play" in the name? 'Cause I think I heard of it in a video of banned video games.
@@Carter-k7j You likely did, as I learned about it there myself. It's called "R*peLay."
Thats basically 50% of H games
@@jennieifanis8917I've heard of it, never played it though
Yeahhhhh I mean, mind break is a literal trope in hentai
So
That's about as surprising as being told someone saw a big, bright ball in the sky
@@tiannalogan9712 as if they think its 'spoilers' giving content warnings LOL
its honestly just another excuse to be edgy as fuck really, isn't it?
It's like, did those people ever consider traumatising little kids for the rest of their lives? lmao.. Just pointless shock value that could be done in a more tactful way then forcing it down their throats and getting people upset!
apolocheese accepted
I found your videos once again!
I haven't watched but I know it's gonna be a good video :)
Why are the likes and dislikes hidden?
prob checked it off accidentally i turned the option on
Love the video format
I love your channel, but if you ever want to step away from these videos about splatterpunk & depraved stories, I’d 1000% understand.
Anyways, if you *want* to Read a Horror Story that'll *actually* Disturb You, then read Borrasca. There's Extreme Subject Matter, sure, but its Handled Way Better then whatever this 'Book' is
Borrasca is so unspeakably lame, but it is better than this.
Love your shout out of Fluids! Probably my fave extreme horror book. Seriously so good and powerful. And gross. hahah
the weirdest part about people writing this horrid shit is that they act like they're being oppressed when someone goes "hey why did you write that what's wrong with you"
they're always going through a dark time too lol. at least they can be logical about it and expect that they're gonna get backlash for their work but they immediately jump into victim mode it's so pathetic. none of these child sa writers would explain their book in detail to someone in real life without expecting weird looks in return but they for some reason do online?? like let your employer and coworkers at your 9 to 5 read ur work and then we'll talk 💀
I’m planning on watching funny games but which one do you recommend the 1997 one or the 2008
honestly they're literally the same movie and worth watching since they both have really amazing actors and the same director BUT the original version messed with me more since it's in dutch and i don't understand it so the tension was much bigger for me with that one. i can watch the remake easily but the og version still gives me shivers even after so many rewatches
Watch both back to back. Made me appreciate what the director intended by making it exactly like the original.
Im back logging your videos exqueeze me uwu
But! Wow! Painful!
there probably are some out there but I surly can’t think of any atm
I appreciate you suffering for my curiosity ❤
I hope you will make a video about Zola which you mentioned you read some months ago, because I really want to know what the "extreme amount of cheese" in all the reviews of the book is hinting at but I also really don't want to read it because I would like to keep thinking of Émile Zola when I heard the word Zola instead of some cheesy story. *ba dum tss*
After seeing what the other looks like, I have no doubt this was a self-insert. Which is terrifying and nauseating to think about.
Please I beg of you do not waste your time and do not waste your money!
I can kinda see how the main character let her guard down since there was a child present. As a survivor of domestic abuse as well, I could see how someone would put their guard down in that situation.
she didnt even give a fuck abiut the kid tho she was like oooohhhh the young man hottie hot hot
