The most influential vocal performance of all time, countless artists cite Vision Of Love as a major influence (Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera and much more) and inspiration in their own quest for stardom. Mariah Carey is the blueprint.
As I’m reading through comments, I realized up until the 90’s, not JUST ANYONE could be a singer. Talent was talent and there was a certain standard of who became famous. Of course there are music execs who would mold artists into what they wanted but they still produced songs that will last a lifetime. Mariah Carey has pure talent and her voice is silky smooth... ugh how do I explain it, you just can’t recreate what she has!! When I bought this album as a kid, I sang my heart out to every song because Mariah was everything and it was a time of loving love and life! There are at least 6-7 songs by Mariah Carey that I absolutely adore, but Vision Of Love will always be my #1! I can still recall with perfect accuracy the first time I heard it back in the summer of 1990. I get goosebumps when the intro starts playing and when Mariah's voice comes up, I'm in my mid-teens again and the world is a wonderful place!
Even though the live versions of this song is immaculate, none of them can touch the studio version. There is like a divine, godly, and spiritual feeling in an effortless way when i hear the studio version. Mariah is truly a beast in the studio. Nobody can touch her when it comes to that. And to think that this is her first single, gurl SLAY!
Yes, I, a bass voice, used to sing this song back in the day and, yes, it was the most difficult I had EVER performed. Breathing exercises had nothing on this!! But it was an extreme pleasure to do. Thank-you Mariah, you are truly at the "top".

Mariah Carey in her prime was the Godzilla of singers! Queen of the Vocalists. I'll always remember Mariah this way. Pure and simply beautiful with a phenomenal voice 😍
It was as if Mariah set the highest Bar possible for female vocalists to try to surpass after she recorded this Song! So far, no other female singer has even come close to this stunning performance! Bravo Bravo Mariah!
Tevin Campbell ushered in a fresh new sound in R&B which was incomparable by far. Smooth, warm, serene & poetically made romance beautiful once again. So that time Mariah was kinda overshadowed but lived in our hearts. But you could play Whitney-Lonely Talking Again, Living For The Love of You, Run To You etc. These few songs supersede if don't take the title of soul moving songs. Tevin's sound still kills even today
Yes it was all over the news when this song dropped comparing her to Whitney and till today no one can cover this song and completely nail it. It’s the way she wrote her songs. It was impossible then and it’s stilll impossible now. People thought she studio artist but she proved them wrong with all her live performances and concerts. The best of the 90’s
Imagine if she released this blockbuster song in 1989. She could have been the only artist at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 for five decades. Just WOW for this legendary woman!!!
Tim Dewano Yes, you can. You’re just too dumb to understand my point. I quite obviously meant that you can always play “what if?” scenarios with singles and albums, and if it had been released differently. For example, Madonna would’ve easily become the first act the top the Hot 100 in 4 different decades if she had made a better choice for the lead single to MDNA to coincide with her Super Bowl performance in 2012.
@@PDC1987 well that's too far fetched. His point is totally make sense and probable considering that Mariah herself recorded this song at 1989, but due to label stuff this was released at 1990. So, IF that so called "label stuff" was faster enough, this hit could've been released at 1989. But still, this song might/might not be #1 at 1989. So this is all makes sense
I swear when I heard this in 1990 on the radio, I knew this was it. I never heard such a skilled female voice before. This is her best song to this day. it still is her best.
You've never heard of Whitney Houston? Diana Ross? Patti La Belle? Donna Summer? Annie Haslam? ALL of them were heavy hitting singers, luminaries of their respective times. The last one might be a niche singer (60s to early 70s rock) but her range, vocal clarity, sheer ability - a match for any of them, and all of them came before Mariah.
@@ebonpaladin Diana Ross... are you serious? Nice voice, but skilled vocal virtuoso? Absolutely not. None of those women were vocal acrobatics in the way Mariah used her voice and none of them had the insane range Mariah had. Whitney was similar, but Mariah brought a whole new level to it.
@@ebonpaladin Whitney, 100%. Easily the best voice of all time. Mariah is right up there, at least with this 1st album. She wrote this song while she was in high school. She actually wrote her entire debut album when she was a teen and five of those songs went number 1. She is a true talent
Crazy talented this lady, love her!
My favorite part is that she held back on the studio version. Pretty much every live performance of it is way better.
She’s written 19 number one songs and the great Billy Joel has only written 7 yet no one considers the extraordinary songwriter that she is because of that exceptional voice & bodacious beauty.

Mariah Carey sung ALL vocals, background and lead for this. The vocal arrangements for this song are stunning. Choir Mariah at her best!

Treated me kind
Sweet destiny
Carried me through desperation
To the one that was waiting for me
It took so long
Still I believed
Somehow the one that I needed
Would find me eventually
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you've given to me
Prayed through the nights
Felt so alone
Suffered through alienation
Carried the weight on my own
Had to be strong
So I believed
And now I know I've succeeded
In finding the place I conceived
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you've given to me
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you've given me
I've realized a dream
And I visualized
The love that came to be

I'm so thankful that I've received
The answer that heaven has sent down to me

The great 90s music I think it began with this song.
Imagine if she released this blockbuster song in 1989. She could have been the only artist at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 for five decades. Just WOW for this legendary woman!!!
Friedrich Nothing You can literally say things like that about any artist.
Isn’t it 3 decades?
