    Certainly the better way to harvest earlier in climatically "critical" zones than to spray whole areas with the damn glyphosate we find in durum wheat products as a poison in our food all over Europe. Keep up the swath - technology and improve the processes in this respect. Greetings from an organic farmer from Switzerland

      Yep Langham Sask. There are maybe 2 others out of 11 still running. Both might be still running in maple creek area.

    Does anyone know How many swathers currently being used in the USA and in Canada?

    • @kylep9472

      There are at least 4 of these swathers being used today

      Not as many as there used to be. When my grandpa farmed he swathed everything-He didn't even own a straight cut header. The farm I work on has basically phased out it's swather in the last 4 or 5 years as new varieties of canola have allowed us to straight cut them. We still have the swather though and on the occasional wet year we use it to get a kick start on harvest. Usually it's only swathing one or two fields though.

    why doesn't everyone use this? is there any major disadvantages to using 75ft header?

    • @Mikethi21

      Centrix
      These swathers are no longer in production. Disadvantages : hope it don't get rained on.

      When headers get larger the bend from the point of attachment and after a long while of usage they can be bent at the frame and this even happens to 35-45 ft heads on combines. I am by means no expert in swathers and don't even own one. However, something that big when it comes to harvesting is a lot of material going through a harvester when it comes to harvest. This means you have to go slower and when you go faster with less crop coming in you are still putting in around the same amount of time. Also notice how slow he is going compared to what he would with a 40 foot swather. Mind you, I am by far an expert on this.

      You might want to look again. These are 3 SEPARATE INDEPENDENT 25ft headers. As far as speed goes, width of a swather makes no difference as to your travel speed while swathing. Regarding the speed in the video I am just making opening round on the field in which I always drive slower. Regarding harvesting a 75ft swath, I was travelling at 4mph which is 34 acres/hr. To get the equivalent with a 40ft header you would need to travel at 7.5 mph.

    If it’s wet can it be changed to leave 2 or 3 windrows?

    • @kylep9472
      @kylep9472 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. You can lay 2 by removing the conveyor table (a 50' swath and a 25' one) or 3 25' swaths by additionally moving the front header opening from the side to the center of the table and reversing a draper motor

      these were made for crop that was only a few inches high and straight cut heads were out of the picture.

      Likely weren’t pushing the unit hard for the video. Most I’ve ever been able to do in 24 hours with a fuel pit stop and fluid check is about 450 acres only on half mile passes. 35” head.

    What is the meaning to do harvest with two steps? Why not just do this with combine harvester? Like we do here in northern Europe... Just like to know... thx for the vid!

    • @oilersridersbluejays
      @oilersridersbluejays 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Can't with our short growing season in Saskatchewan. The low spots will be super green and high spots will be over ripe. Swathing evens it out. Wait too long and try to take it straight and you'll be combining in the snow.

      to much ryegrass in the barley...,swathing means even harvest ie much lower waste. I dont spray all my crop with glyphosate so swathing becomes handy.

    How could you possibly combine such a huge windrow? Tried double swaths of oats and barley and had to go super slow.

      @Mikethi21  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Amue92 4mph with the new Holland 10.90 no problem.

      Amue92 I was thinking exactly the same thing, and why not just do the job , one pass with a combine, like we do in England
