Motif XS strong points: 1. It comes loaded with sounds that already sound great. 2. the DA converters on the yamaha motif line are very warm, which is always a good thing, this is way lots of people talk about the "yamaha warmth" in motif keyboards. Kurzweil PC3 strongs: 1. It comes loaded with already amazing sounds that you can use for any genre successfully. 2. If you know how to use and program the V.A.S.T. technollogy, you can get even better sounds than Yamaha Motif. 3. KDFX efx=the best!
I just try a PC3K 88 in my local shop. I order one. Thanks a lot for your demo, your answer and all people in YT helping each other to compare, hear and get interested in synth.
I don't know how many times I listen to this video. I dont' have PC3 but I like how it sounds.. And you played very well.. the right sound for the right song 😁👍
@walt9427 In Kurzweil terminology a voice is called a program and a performance is called a setup. The PC3 can layer and/or split" up to 16 programs in each setup. A voice in the Motif XS can have up to 8 elements. In the PC3, a program can consist of up to 32 layers (a layer is roughly comparable to an element in the Motif, just even more advanced).
I almost bought the PC361 a year back or so at a guitar center that I got to play on. Wish I would have got it then, there is not even one PC361 anywhere on the used market right now.
Luigiperso - the SONY camcorder has camera tripod hole in bottom. I used a microphone stand with a gooseneck attachment then a "mic/camera" thread adaptor to attach the camcorder high up but looking straight down.... hope that helps......
@idunnia - Previously I only used weighted keybs (Yamaha) but there is NO problem with the semi-weighted on this - grew to love it really quickly, wouldnt really want fully weighted now. good luck.
Nice! I picked up a PC3 last year and love the sound quality. Thanks for making a demo that shows a good variety of the sounds. I think the PC3 series is one of the best values available right now. The new PC3K series with sampling is great as well, but if you don't need the sampling and compatibility with older "K" series sounds, you can't go wrong with the PC3. They have the same sound patches and setups, but the PC3s can be found under $1,500 now since Kurzweil released the PC3K series.
I really enjoyed the sounds and your keyboard playing in this video. Thanks for sharing this with us. The sounds on the Kurzweil are excellent, in my opinion. This is a very deep keyboard with an incredible range of sound. Thanks again!
If the LE edition sounds this good I must sell some superfluous gear and buy thi ASAP. To think that you have this mrvellous presets plus the whole VAST engine... Gorgeous tones and tunes in your video. Congrats!
Ramon - I am sorry for the late reply. Actually the LE versions do NOT sound identical to this - I know this to my cost - I bought one then returned it. I beleive the core sounds are meant to be identical BUT the effects processing is not as complex that makes suprisingly big difference. I dont really recommend the LE versions if you really like quality sounds........
Thank you for share this video with the sounds of the keyboard. This put in my way the good decision of buy it,and i do not regret. The sounds are just amazing, and i have to say that the hammonds sounds are one of the strong points of this keyboard.Just terrible sound.Difficult to program but once you get it it´s a world of possibilities.
@ModlerX Thank you for you response. I just brought a PC3 LE7 so waiting on it to arrive so I can compare it to the sound quality of my Motif XS8. I'm sure they are very different in sound quality both I think I have the best of both worlds now. IMO I think Yamaha and Kurzweil are the best out there.
@galifettetv1238 I don't think I've ever played that brand, but I'm sure it's good as well. This was over 12 years ago, and there are more options on the market that are more affordable and offer better sounds now. I ended up sending the PC3 LE7 back and purchased an SP5-8 because I didn't like the keybed on the PC3 model. It's still running strong today and is used at my in-laws' church every Sunday.
Such a unique sound characteristic. Nothing sounds so marvelously liquid 80s and 90s. Ths doesn't have that forward plastic to the sound like Roland does. This sounds like it has nice analog grit on softened digital ones.
Mason! Thank you so much. Sound #260 Brighter CP Tone I played melody from "Joe Jackson, 'Steppin' Out'" - its on you tube. Great jazzy romantic 1980s british pop tune........
Thanks everyone for your responses - glad its helped some of you ! @arnstein ~ yes I agree about 1000 programs ~ I have seen some with 4000 series numbers when I used the 'search' function - but theres not that many seperate programs - anyway - do you make music with big numbers ? - or with good sounds ? !!
Nice! My most favorite sounds are at 2:35-2:55, 5:15-6:34, and 13:17-14:27. Also, the Jazzy Ballad Vox sound reminds me of the dream sequence from that one Rugrats episode, In the Dreamtime.
@arnstein86 Unfortunately, some sounds do not appear in the list. For example, sounds like GM Aplaus or helicopter or gunshot .... For one year I thought that they are not there, but they are! New OS 2.03 has 1,086 programs - the last number is 4223 and it is confusing!
Their next workstation will have bigger screen. You have to understand that when PC3 was in its beginnings Kurzweil were just 5 people, and it was supposed to be just a little bit upgraded PC2, carrying over the looks from K2600 but slimmed down. They used whatever resources they had at hand... and a shiny, flashy big touchscreen was not their priority at all.
The sounds on the PC3 are very good; however, for live performance I preferred my PC2X. It was easier to setup and change sounds on the fly in performance.
Not only do I love the sounds (currently waiting for my PC3LE7, it has practically all the same sounds and presets than the full PC3), but I love the songs you used in your demo! Is that a Fleetwood Mac song at 8:54 (the bass riff)?
No for sure, as "@ACB TH-cam" said, the 00:50 tune is Bach's "Air on G String". www.8notes.com/scores/9752.asp But the chords progression is quite similar as "A Whiter Shade of Pale". Amanzing.
Thank you for the responses nanoholic and burgemusic :) I'm looking for a piano that can emulate many instruments for studio applications. Well, as long as you can find the sounds listed in the manual with the search function that's the important thing. As to the big numbers or good sounds, why settle for just the one? Hehe, I want it all! Btw, I was thinking about going for the PC3 rather than the PC3x to save some money - do any of you have comments on the feel of the semi-weighted action?
The Kronos is a vastly superior instrument, for all the plastic sounds there are plenty of great sounds to counter those. Its the ultimate synth workstations with its 9 synth engines. Still, Kurzweil V.A.S.T is no joke either!

Hey great vid! The Kurzweil sounds great, I am looking for a keyboard with nice piano, organ, electric piano and synth sounds while being a great controller. I don't know if you ever had the chance to try a Nord, but I am trying to choose between these two! Any opinions are greatly appreciated! Thanks :)
Mr Stanq - all the sounds are standard presets included with the PC3 ! The very first sound is a 'collection' of standard presets that I stored together - but again all sounds you hear come default with the keyboard - thanks for yr comments.

Yes, it helped me decide: the Kurzweil PC 3K8 is right for me :-)

I wish Kurzweil would come out with a new workstaion with large screen and more memory.
Plus some sample feature to make your own samples.
Very nice vid. Lot of work to incrust the lcd screen. Thanks a lot ! Is that standard presets from the PC3 ? Your presets ?

HI,
Please what is the very well knowed tune at 00:50 ?

Hi if you ll show how to record to USB drive. Thanks.
I agree. I have a K2000 from 1994, and this PC3 doesn't sound any better. Cheesy sounds for such a high price.
the mellotron sounds: flutes, choir are truthfullness realistic

What is the song at 12:50?
Have you ever played a Nord Stage 2.
Mr burgemusic,is it a pc3k8?
Im sure the Motif XF8 can produce the same sounds with all of its third party sounds
and Ipad control and 2 Gigs of flash memorey.

Now if I could only hear the rest of the mellotrons... :)
No, USBis only for saving off sounds and doing firmwareupdates...

Just looking at the keybed action
It is the 76 note version of PC3.......
Which song is at 6:39?
very nicely done...is this the PC3LE6?
actually PC3 76 note - see above comments the LE versions are NOT identical in sound.
Why would you buy a Kurzweil over a Motif XF8?????
what is the song at 05:25 ??
very very good keyboard, only one instrument not good: HAMMOND sound, all the rest very perfect.
