    Once again, Dale, you present an understandable presentation of how to do something, which can be difficult to accomplish, in such a way that one can follow your instructions with ease. Bravo!

    Hi Dale, I will have to watch this video a couple more times to learn how to tie the get down rope. I really like this idea of having a more simple way of leading a horse, be it on a trail etc. Thanks for sharing!

      G;ad you like it Nancy. I'm not one for a lot of extra equipment, but a get-down rope like this is hardly noticeable. This particular one is 5/16" yacht braid rope and was made by Silvertip Halter Co.

    Its a get down rope. Its so you can lead your horse without pulling on their mouth with a bit or a snaffle in the mouth.. keeps their mouth soft

      @@dalefredricks6546 I stated that wrong I meant do I need a caveson or bosalito to run a getdown rope OR can I just tie it under and in conjunction with my headstall

      You can just tie the getdown around your horse's neck at the throatlatch.

    Hi Dale, What is the name of the knot again? Bolar?

  • @LandLAuctionCo
    @LandLAuctionCo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I know it isn't as punchy, but if I didn't have the bosal and was running a snaffle bit bridle on my neighbors horse, could I run it under the curb chain, or chin strap?

    • @dalefredricks6546
      @dalefredricks6546  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds pretty punchy to me! I would think it would be ok if the cub strap was plenty loose. I wouldn't use a curb chain on a snaffle- make sure it's a curb strap. (the only reason for a curb strap on a snaffle bit, is to keep the bit from being pulled through the horse's mouth with a lateral pull) Just bear in mind that while leading the horse, if you pull the horse to the side you'll also be pulling on the horse's mouth. You'd probably want to be careful about tying him up with the get down rigged up like that, especially on a green horse.

    • @LandLAuctionCo
      @LandLAuctionCo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't think about it pulling on the bit. I better get a bosalita, or something similar if I am going to do that. Thank you for the information.

    what the difference between a get down and just riding with a rope halter with its lead rope ? Beside the look ?

    • @dalefredricks6546
      @dalefredricks6546  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Noemie- a 5/16" get=down rope and a small bosalito or noseband are a lot less bulk and hardly noticeable when riding and/or training. With a noseband or small bosal you can also limit how much the horse is able to open his mouth. This can help prevent the horse from learning to gap open his mouth when bit pressure is applied. (you always want to leave it roomy enough for the horse to make normal movements of the mouth without being restricted)

    • @dalefredricks6546

      Sure Sydney, it's not attached to the bit in any way so it doesn't matter what type of bit you're using.
